  1. Tony LaRussa. looks more like a serial killer. http://www.soyhappy.org/images/celeb_larussa.jpg
  2. well whatever, i guess we have different definitions of "peak". Of all of the examples that I stated, all are in the top 5 in AVG. or HR in their respective league. If you are putting up those numbers, then to me your in your still in your "peak". You may not be in 3 or even 2 more years. But right now you are. That was the argument.
  3. Soriano is not in the "prime" of his career unless he's going to be playing as long as Minni Minoso or Julio Franco. He's 31 and will be 32 next January. 31 is past prime? news to me. Other players past their prime: A-Rod(32 this month) Vlad(31) Jeter(33) DLee(31) Tori Hunter(31) Not to mention players like sheffield and griffey who aren't in their prime, but when healthy can contribute very late in their careers. 31 may be in the later part of their prime but surely not out of it. It's past prime. It does not mean end of career. It means past their prime, which typically occurs from around 26-28/29 in hitters. so even though you are putting up as good(or in some cases better) numbers than you did earlier in your career you are past your prime? This doesn't make sense to me. Shouldn't your production be the meter used to determine your "prime", instead of age?
  4. The padres probably didn't tell him because they figured he would probably get out anyway.

  6. yeah i listened to them on XM and you would have thought being 9 games back of first at the ASB was all they could have dreamed of. They kept calling their starter "Sugar Shane" as well, it made me want to drive my car into a ditch. Sugar Shane has been his nickname for awhile.... great. didn't seem to make it any less annoying to hear 40 times.

  8. I would be welcome to the idea of burrell if it only requires a B prospect and eating a portion of his salary. Doesn't he have a cannon? An outfield of Soriano and Burrell would be scary to run on. Not to mention if Pie starts hitting and gets some PT. However I would think he would be demoted if another OF is added.
  9. I happen to love brenly's analysis. Sometimes something is so corny that it is...in fact, funny! Kasper has been on point as well this year.
  10. Hill is out of options and Bowen has just been traded for. That means that hill is the unlucky man and will eventually be moved. I have my doubts that Bowen is a better backup than Hill, but given that Bowen is the new commodity, it's a no-brainer. Hill AND Bowen are FINE backups, but ONLY backups...we need Soto or another full time starter at C.
  11. I think Lou wanted him in more RBI situations since he had been slugging well. However, in my opinion he's a better option than Theriot in the 2 hole.
  12. Lineup looks good to me. Well, everything except pagan 6th :?
  13. Somebody brought this up in another thread (and I have no idea which one) but under the proposed deal the Cubs would be paying all but the league minimum (or around that figure) while the Marlins would have picked up the rest. But the Cubs would still have to pay another player to take Jones' position on the roster. So essentially the player replacing Jones would have to make the league minimum for the Cubs to not take on any more salary than they would already have by keeping Jones. The player the cubs would most likely add when they remove jacque will most likely make the minimum.
  14. I more or less have. What did he say? ummm...I'm not sure why I wrote that. I don't remember writing it. I drank too much rum. Maybe I had a vison???
  15. He was hurt a month ago. He (as far as I know) is fine now. I too am counting until the days soto is called up.
  16. That's the thing Bruce. I felt like I was the idiot because I thought the same thing. But they kept on preaching it as if it was the gospel. I mean seriously I get that your a so-called "baseball expert" on ESPN, but at least make common sense in your predictions. For God's sake if you are making assumptions then say, "in your best estimate" or "you have been lead to believe"...don't pass these fabrications along without merit!
  17. Maybe I'm a bit naive, but I really do think if we wait just a little longer we will find somebody willing to pay at least half of jone's salary. It isn't an enormous amount and some owners are stupid and desperate enough to "shake" things up around the deadline. If someone pays all of neifi's contract, then there's somebody out there for jones after all.
  18. Thanks. After hearing Bruce say that it was Hendry who pulled the plug, the NY story made no sense. I'm glad that is cleared up, which brings me to the next question, can we or can we not take on more salary??? ps- I'm sick and tired of these national writers making assumptions and then throwing them out there as fact. If you don't know for sure, then keep your mouth shut!
  19. Hill is out of options. This is why I don't understand getting Bowen for Barett. I wasn't completely against trading Barett, but I would have rather gotten some kind of serviceable arm or a decent prospect for him. Hill is a fine backup cather, but this platoon thing with him and bowen hasn't been pretty. Of course if Soto were to come up and struggle we're in the same boat. Soto deserves a shot, I say package Hill along with one of the other 3 crappy players that need to be traded. Wow, that's going to be quite an attractive package. the asking price won't be high. more less a dump (if MLB will allow)
  20. Jim Hendry hopes that alot of people are assessing the FA's right now as well, rather than a few weeks ago. It's easier to look past short comings during a streak like the cubs are on. But in all honesty, I tried not to judge these guys coming in and base my opinion on what I saw on the field. I was a bit leary with a few guys (marquis especially) but I have been pretty impressed. DeRosa has been great with the bat and just as good with the glove. Soriano will pick up the power in the second half probably (his arm is outstanding), Ward is solid, Lilly has been solid as expected, and if we can get Marquis' numbers again the second half i'm ecstatic. Floyd has been OK as well and if Murton doesn't show enough to get promoted after Jacque is gone, I think DeRo will do a fine job in RF. Assuming of course no trade for an OF bat is made. I do agree with the other poster, blanco was a dumb move. Grade so far: B+
  21. why wouldn't he have 7 RBI's? :x
  22. I'll take it. 2 weeks ago you would have gotten laughed off this board if you would have said the cubs have a 37% chance at going to the playoffs. Hopefully in 2 more weeks 37% will be the percent to win just the division.
  23. Hey.... I know what you mean. I'm not even creative enough to come up with a catchy screen name !! But that name has "rock star" status all over it! 8-)
