  1. its almost august!
  2. At this stage? he's what? 28? Its just muscle memory, if someone shows him the way to pitch without hurting his shoulder, and he tries hard enough, he can do it.
  3. Our offense sucks for reasons that have nothing to do with the occasional todd walker DP.
  4. well, we now have at least one topic about a sox messageboard...
  5. Gotta love that sarcasm. Yes, you're right. That was the ONLY concern teams had. And the only reason the Red Sox wanted to dump him was his contract. Yup, it was. I think a lot people are wary of paying a LF 20 million a year, no matter how good he is.
  6. Why not Holly? He has to be able to play CF as well as Macias.
  7. word. we had a good discussion about this in flashchat tonight.
  8. thnx for macias
  9. Yeah, it probably says that a lot of teams didnt have 20 million to spend, or didnt need a 20 million dollar upgrade in leftfield.
  10. Agreed. Obviously this is a pipedream, but Manny is one of the Holy Trinity as far as hitters go (Bonds/Pujols/Manny). He really is an amazing hitter.
  11. Fixing the bullpen huh? Give Baker a $140 mil roster and he could possibly win it all. You must be a big Billy Beane fan then, huh? Seriously, though, exactly how do you believe RC overvalues the walk? (And I'd prefer a quantative explaination w/respect to the RC formula to the generic "walks don't drive in runs" variety.) This isn't a trick question as RC really isn't a theoretically sound model for run production. In actual practice, however, it has proven to be a decent measure of overall production in 95% of all cases. (This would include a comparison of Soriano to Walker...) You think a walk and single should have equal value?? Also, since a home run is a sure run, it's value should be more than 4. I like haveing some guys who can take walks, but I'm sick of the obsession w/ the walk. If the Cubs had a budget of 250 million, perhaps they could find 8 guys who can walk and hit for power. A walk is a lot more valuable than a ball put into play. Just as a win for a pitcher is subject to actions outside of his control so is a hit (unless it is a home run). A home run's a ball in play. Hate to break this but single > walk. Yes, but most balls put into play are not singles/doubles/triples/HR
  12. wow, i had no idea the game was on.
  13. Keep your head up Matt. Err, oops.
  14. I really don't see Nosemar getting more than 50% of the starts when he first gets back. He's going to need days off.
  15. No, not on the DL, but he was shut down at the end of last year with inflamation in his elbow and did missed his last 2-3 starts although I believe he was used in relief once. Burnett has pitched over 200 innings once in his career with his next highest like 175. Well, 2001 was his first full year in the majors, and I don't know why he didn't go over 200 innings. Maybe part of the year was in the minors, maybe not. 2002 he went over 200 innings, and in 2003 he was hurt, 2004 he returned halfway through, and 2005 is only halfway over, so he really hasnt had much of a chance to pass the magical 200 inning barrier.
  16. The Cubs arenn't "chasing" anyone. I hate that term in sports. What we do has no effect on what the Nationals or the Braves, or the Phillies are doing, as long as we aren't playing them. We're "chasing" the Giants for the next two days, and then after that we're "chasing" someone else.
  17. It's not like Burnett has been back on the DL since coming off TJ.
  18. Couldn't Kearns play CF? With Murton in LF batting 2nd it would give the Cubs this lineup Walker Murton- good place for a singles hitter that draws walks Lee Burnitz Ramirez Kearns SS- be it Nomar, Cedeno or Perez (in that order) Barrett Not too shabby That still would mean that Dusty was starting Murton, which he has shown he doesnt want to do. Unless for some reason Hollandsworth is magically traded, do you really there is a chance Murton gets the majority of the starts versus RH pitching?
  19. Heh, he won't walk away from 9 million dollars.
  20. I'd like either Kearns or Dunn, too. We need to do something, because Holly's hot streak died a cold death, and it looks like Murton is pretty much going to be stuck a straight L/R platoon. He looks to me like he's just a singles hitter with a nice approach anyway. I'm pretty convinced that Kearns will outproduce both Holly and Murton, but I'm afraid that Kearns recent hot streak in AAA has jacked up his price, and If Hendry is unwilling to part with Hill for Dunn, I can't imagine he'd give up anyone of value for Kearns. Hell, who knows if Kearns would get 90% of the PT even if we did trade for him.
  21. i got to see him in st louis his rookie year, he really looked athletic in the field, he made a couple of really nice plays. Why isnt he playing 2B in the minors?
  22. if the last two days dont teach you not to give up on this team, nothing will
  23. Hawk should give this game to us as repayment.
  24. they probably dont do a lot of baserunning work with the pitchers.
  25. What kind of Cubs fan wastes his time looking up stats like that? Don't you know that Neifi is just plain terrible and shouldn't be in the major leagues? Um...Neifi is plain terrible as an everyday SS on a contending team. Stats like that are usually aberrations. It probably wasn't you, USSoccer, but I recall a ton of posters on this site saying that Hendry was an idiot for signing Perez after he was cut by the Giants. Neifi didn't deserve to play in the majors. He was another team's reject. No one, at that time, qualified any of their statements the way you just did. I wish they had. Whats the difference? He's still bad either way.
