  1. all the guys acting like they're baseball geniuses for pointing out that the back ends of long FA deals for pitchers are rough is really cracking me up. Like no horsefeathers, that's the bargain you make. It would be sick if we could all be the Astros or whatever and have a WS caliber roster based on home grown dudes and short-commitment trades, but the rest of us who are trying to win the world series need good players now. Lester is gonna be injured or bad at the end of his deal and I won't regret the signing in a second. Zobrist was awful last year and I couldn't stand watching him come to the plate but he's a horsefeathering Cubs legend for 2016. The Cubs are gonna have to play around some dead weight in a few years, sure, but they're great now. Meanwhile the Brewers won't have any 36-year old SPs dragging down their payroll, but they're mediocre now and they'll be mediocre then. Good luck with that.
  2. love this motherfunker
  3. The idea that you should just never sign a big FA because the backend of the deal is never worth it is just ... it's something I'm shocked to hear from Kenny as he doesn't seem like a Take Guy.
  4. ahh yes this is the good horsefeathers
  5. alou was pretty big. at least as big as zobrist. Ooooh yeah, that's a good one.
  6. it keeps mind fucken me that the cubs, who never ever ever sign a meaningful FA have signed Lester, Heyward (ok that was a miss,) Zobrist, and Darvish in 3 of the last 4 offseasons edit: and will likely head into the 2019 offseason as favorites to sign Harper edit again: im not counting dawson because that was weird and i was a child and yes i forgot about soriano BUT OTHER THAN THAT
  7. I’m glad he ignore early enough to make it onto the cubs opening day roster on the show
  8. I like how Theo said “oh y’all don’t wanna sign any FAs? Ok we’ll re-stock our rotation and pen with good players on insanely good deals, feel free to keep colluding.”
  9. LMao we’re paying Yu John Lackey money
  10. Someone give me brewers fan porn
  11. holy horsefeathers his k/9 was 4.6 last year. That barely seems possible.
  12. who is ervin santana would be a really bad jeopardy category for a lot of reasons over or under? THERES A GOD DAMMED AMBER ALERT GOING ON RIGHT NOW
  13. good god if Ribbie sees tim's post using a slur for a part of the female anatomy this board is screwed
  14. I think they're underselling the MIF and OF a little, as well as Willy who is a healthy season away from a 4.5 WAR year. If we do end up signing Darvish that is a pretty bad ass little roster.
  15. every time i realize darvish isn't signing with the cubs i remind myself the last time anyone saw this guy he was busy sucking butt in the world series
  16. Man, I don't know. An ACL to big guys is fairly rare. There's not that many teams with cap space. I'm just not sure. I think he might have to settle for a bit less personally. not that it really makes things better, but it's an achilles, not ACL Yeah its actually worse. the history of comebacks from achilles tears in the nba is not good.
  17. javy's bod looking a little soft
  18. what's really wild to me is how inconsequential The Ringer is
  19. lol i know, like, youre gonna get like a few push notifications on your phone well in advance of randomly stumbling on the news of a signing at nsbb.
  20. I'm not sure what the answer is. The Cubs, who had the longest championship drought in history, hired the best GM in the game and went on a tanking strategy that actually worked and you still had people here crying about not signing anibal sanchez
  21. that is one of my wife's favorite movies and that scene slays me every single time we watch it
  22. interest in football will have cratered by 2020 and this will never even launch
  23. Someone over on the Brewers boards said they lost the 73rd pick if I remember right. you can almost hear the window closing a little
  24. oh i guess i wasn't thinking of unqualified players Sure, right, I don't know what the cut off is for that. I just went with Fangraphs WAR leaderboard http://www.fangraphs.com/warleaders.aspx?season=2017&team=all i just learned that jon jay was more valuable than ryan braun last year lmao
  25. there is no way that will hold true. You do 300 players and you're running into negative WAR guys 2017 fWAR leaderboard doesn't hit 0.0 WAR until 792, and -0.1 until 932 oh i guess i wasn't thinking of unqualified players
