  1. Yeah, I didn't know you could just run with the ball until you run into someone and draw a foul.
  2. Sweet. Webber out for tonight with sore back!
  3. That's bad luck. Guess we will be seeing a lot of Pargo.
  4. Now was not the game to use him though. Probably, but today wasn't the only opportunity he had to use Wuertz. Yeah, yesterday would have worked.
  5. Cabrera will be lucky to get half that. Why? He put up big stats last year, about a notch below DLee and you think he's only worth $6 mil a year? I probably estimated high on the 12-15 mil per year but if DLee is negoitiating a contract worth 12-13 mil a year, you don't think Cabrera, who is 22 not 30, isn't worth 10 mil a year? Furcal got 13 mil from the Dodgers. Service time. So if the guy can play but is only 22 (almost 23) that takes a few million off of what he's worth. Pujols has only been in the league for 5 years, this is his sixth. I don't know when Albert signed his contract and I'm not saying Cabrera is as good as Pujols is but Pujols is making 14 mil a year. Why isn't Cabrera worth 10. I still haven't heard a good reason. Just for kicks, lets say Cabrera puts up numbers this year comparable to what he did last year. Is he still not worth 10 mil? I think Pujols signed his multi-year deal before he was done with arbitration, maybe by one year. As long as a player is eligible for arbitration, other teams can't sign him so he won't have the opportunity to make big time money and poor teams like the Marlins can keep him longer. Thats' why it is the way it is. Before Curt Flood, a team owned the rights to a player forever. The whole arbitration thing is a compromise. Thanks. Just curious, what happened with Pujols then? 2006 is his sixth year in the league. Can the team a player is on just sign him to a gigantic deal if they want to? Yeah, that's what happened with him, two years early.
  6. I'm Jacque Jones Who...Jacque Jones Who...Jacque Jones, Jones And I'm a stay putting it down in RF until the end

  9. Troll much? Who mentioned Patterson in this thread? A. Patterson is not an option as he plays for Baltimore B. I don't expect Jones to go 0 for 06. C. He hits in the fith spot, Dusty cannot keep him there if he Ks on the same high frequencies as he has done so far. D. I asked, how long? If he goes into Tuesday without a hit how much longer can Dusty stick with him. If he could go with CPatt for as long as he did, expect Jones to be in RF for the duration of 06 regardless of what he does on the field.
  10. No way Ponson is that fat, he looks like Cecil Fielder!
  11. LOL. After 4 games, the question "How long will Dusty start Jones?" gets posed, yet people still like Corey and would rather he be in RF. Can someone please explain to me why Corey gets unlimited slack and Jones gets a week of games?
  12. You have to have another way of scoring runs other than just homers. I can't remember how many times the last two years we won like 9-1 and followed it up losing 2-1.
  13. I'm rooting for him to fail. Last year, he got off to such a great start, that no matter how poorly he played after May -- and he was AWFUL -- Baker could not see past his empty overall batting average. He just did not understand how much Perez was killing the team offensively over the last four months. I hope Neifi starts 4 for his first 81. Dusty seems to only look at overall numbers anyway, so it's the only way to keep Neifi from getting 400 plate appearances again. No he doesn't. See Harris, Leonard.
  14. If what you say is true, then Baylor was nothing like Weaver. Like him with the home runs, not like him with the sacs. Can you please tell me how many games you've watched that Weaver managed? What are your sources of Weaver's managing style? I'm just curious to how much you really know about Weaver. I know more about Weaver than Baylor from reading books and studying his teams. My recollection of Baylor was his last year when we hit a ton of homers and nothing else, leading the league. I should have looked at his first two years stats before I said anything.
  15. Neifi is a bad hitter, and Walker needs to be the starter. My only gripe is people angry about him starting a game and getting 3 hits. A lot of people seem to have an intense hatred for Neifi and want him to fail. I don't get that at all. I really disliked Lenny Harris, Todd Hundley and Estes, but if by the grace of god they actually did put up a good game, I laid off of them for that day.
  16. That's what I figured. People shouldn't misrepresent it and make it sound like he actually is the 12th worst offensive player ever though because the novice fans might believe it.

If Farmar and Afflalo actually do go pro, which would be a terrible move for either, UCLA will be lucky to make the NCAA tournament
  18. How ungrateful. Edmonds is lucky he got 5 minutes. I'd rather let Ronnie Woo Woo have the whole the shower to himself for 5 min. than the Cards get any hot water.
  19. Yes, in fact, he is terrible. In a recent Baseball Prospectus article, he appeared as the #12 worst offensive baseball player since 1900. He is an ideal late-innings replacement or backup shortstop, but he shouldn't be starting. I don't think anyone here hates him - it's not that he kicks babies or eats puppies - but, like lots here say, I hate the way Dusty uses him. Neifi shouldn't start, but when he does, he shouldn't be anywhere near the 2 slot. Neifi is a far from good offensive player but #12 worst since 1900 is absolutely ridiculous. I could probably think of 12 former Cubs in the last 10 years who were worse than him. I'd like to know what kind of criteria were used becuase I've seen this quoted on here a few times. It has to be based on have a large number of ABs and disregard position or something. I'm sure it was park-adjusted. Someone who has gotten 57% of his career at bats with the Rockies having Neifi's career numbers is very very bad. Yeah that's a good point. That being said, I still can't say I would rather have Paul Bako, Curtis Goodwin, Augie Ojeda, Manny Alexander, Sandy Martinez, Jeff Huson, Chad Meyers, Eric Yelding or Steve Lake bat than him just to name a few. I think if forced to choose I would also select Neifi over Mick Kelleher. Not my era but I looked that guy up...flat out BRUTAL. How the hell did he play 11 years?
  20. The East will become strong in the next year or two. The Bulls and Orlando should become forces soon. Darko is looking really good now that he has a chance to play.
  21. The Bulls could beat New Jersey. We've already killed them before this year and they will be just cooling off from this hot streak by the playoffs.

  25. Yeah, it wasn't the ideal lineup. Dusty got lucky and it worked really well. Maybe Maddux had a say though.
