  1. Shelton went 0 for 4 with 3 Ks and 3 LOB....knocked his average down to .583.
  2. Podsednik 1 for 22. You're right, they could use Pierre.
  3. Why is everybody cheering for this guy? http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00005JNHT.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg Just out of curiousity, how is Kojak related to Jones? Nevertheless, I'm bestowing the nickname Kojak to him.
  4. So is he lying about having made it?
  5. I don't know, if the team is winning, it's not the worst thing to have a proven guy struggling in those wins when others are hot so he can take over when they cool down.
  6. Well, right now Cedeno and Murton are the Hill and Choi of this team, and I personally don't want to trade them for Abreu.
  7. As long as we are making fun of the Cards, maybe there is one fan out there who hasn't seen it yet. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/srbin84/2-40.jpg
  8. Yeah, I agree. They remind me of the 2003 Cards.
  9. Yeah, their farm system is deep with major league talent. Ray is kind of like Borowski was. He's pitched in about every league there is.
  10. The Giants also have Armando Benitez due back from the DL as soon as he's eligible, so I'd imagine they'd wait to begin evaluating their pen until after he's back and throwing in the 9th. The Braves have no such closer waiting in the wings, except for Devine, as you said, but with the way he's pitched so far in the bigs, both in his time last year, and this year, I'd worry about him as a closer. That Ray kid the Braves have made Barry Bonds look clueless at the plate on 4 pitches also. The Braves don't need to deal with other teams to fill holes, all they need to do is promote someone up from the farm. 31 year old Kenny Ray?
  11. Maybe if Philly keeps losing and is easily on pace for a 100 loss season by the ASG, we could get Abreu for prospects. It would probably take Pie and whatever young pitcher is most successful up to that point. If Marshall starts for the whole first half and has an ERA in the 3's, would you deal him for Abreu if they insisted on including him? It would kind of be like the risk we took trading Scott Downs for Rondell White, only on a much larger scale.
  12. True fans NEVER root for their players to actually fail. Instead, what you should root for is for Dusty to use him properly and for him to succeed in that role. Thanks for telling me what I should and should not do. I guess I'm not a "true fan." More like someone who likes to see failure on their favorite team. In onder words, illogical. There's nothing illogical about what WB said, nor does it not make him a true fan. By this logic, if you've ever hoped for a sacrifice bunt, or hoped that one was successful, you are illogically hoping failure on the team. He wants the team to be ultimately successful, and the best way he thinks is for Neifi to be terrible to make Dusty less likely to play him. That's no different than hoping he does well and justifies Dusty's decision. Both want the team to succeed, and both are logical and indicative of "true fandom". We all know it will take Dusty at least two months of atrocious play from Neifi for him to bench him. That will hurt the team more in the standings than Neifi doing well, whether he plays a little or a lot. It comes down to whether certain people enjoy the Cubs winning more or hating Dusty and Neifi.
  13. True fans NEVER root for their players to actually fail. Instead, what you should root for is for Dusty to use him properly and for him to succeed in that role. Yeah, and I'm also saying that if Dusty started him everyday, and he somehow hit like .320 or .330, I would be happy about it because that would help the Cubs win.
  14. How about a Z/Nocioni ticket? I'd vote for that. That works for me.
  15. Well, the real one isn't much better. http://espn-i.starwave.com/media/apphoto/FLJF10603311941.jpg
  16. Z should run for president of the world.
  17. I agree. Really Corey was a speed guy trying to also be a power guy. Very few can pull off that combo. Lots of guys pull off that combo. Corey's problem was pitch recognition and plate discipline (and possibly bat control). If he sacrifices his power, it won't make a bit of difference except to make him less productive unless he improves in the above abilities. You don't think when Corey was taking home run cuts and missing all the time, it was possible he was being undisciplined in doing so and sacraficing bat control?
  18. Trade him to the Dodgers.
  19. I agree. Really Corey was a speed guy trying to also be a power guy. Very few can pull off that combo. Abreu and Soriano are the only ones. Honorable mention to Sizemore, Bay and Arod.
  20. Pierre has a career OBP of .355, Patterson .293. Patterson has a career SLG of .413, Pierre .376. So, if speed is equal, it's a question of what is more valuable, .037 points of SLG or .062 points of OBP. I'll take the OBP.
  21. what does that have to do with homeruns? The reason the cubs don't score without homeruns is because of lack of OBP. The Cubs don't have players with good OBP and don't seem intent on acquiring a lineup full of them. I'll take a few guys who can get on base at a decent clip and have speed over a few guys who have bad averages and OBPs but hit an occasional home run, which is what we had last year. A couple more Lee or Ramirez type players is not an alternative for this team. Lee runs quite well. Ramirez and Lee both have good OBPs. I would certainly prefer another Lee or Ramirez to a Jones or Pierre or a Burnitz. 8 Lees would score a whole lot of runs! I guess I don't really follow what you are trying to say. I would choose OBP over speed. I'm saying I agree with you but the Cubs aren't going to get more Lees or Ramirezzzz. If the choice is Patterson (who was fast but rarely got on base to use it) and Burnitz vs. Pierre and Jones, I think Pierre and Jones will help the team win more games even though Patterson and Burnitz are a lock for more home runs.

  23. Yeah, if he turns into a Jose Valentine type defensive SS, we need to move him to second even if it means trading Walker. I really hope it doesn't come to that.
  24. The other one was where he was running scooped up the ball in his glove then dropped it when trying to pull it out with his throwing hand.
  25. They were bad plays. He also got lucky on another call in the Reds series that should have been an error. I hope these are just rookie mistakes because it looks like he can really rake. He's supposed to be good on D too.
