  1. 2 Walks, Barney singled. People following on GameDay are going to be really confused, all it says is Fuku walks, Barney scores, Hill to 3rd. Whatever happened, it broke ESPN's game center thing. For those that didn't see, Montero tried to pick Koyie Hill off 2nd base after ball 4 and it got into center field. I'm sure Kirk Gibson loved that one.

  3. He doesn't recognize pain! No, he inflicts in on Cubs fans.
  4. Hill should sacrifice to give Cashner a chance. :D
  5. Quade said he "could use him late in the game" but they're being cautious. So, I would guess they sit him today and probably tomorrow with the off day Thursday (unless Colvin is horrendous at first).
  6. Nope, they'll be the worst team in the Horizon League Not next year, but they'll end up in the Horizon League in about 5 years. Would actually have a good chance of competing in that league. Butler, watch out...
  7. I'm a bit ignorant on the topic, will this be because DePaul is good or another team is embarrassingly awful? It's hard to win less than 1 Big East game per season as DePaul has over the last 3 seasons. DePaul should be better and Providence and South Florida should be putrid as well. I'm going out on a limb and saying DePaul has a chance for 12th (Seton Hall and Rutgers aren't great either).
  8. DePaul WON'T be the worst team in the Big East next year. Progress.
  9. So, the Mike Quade honeymoon is officially nearing its end with me. Why must all managers feel the need to micromanage everything? Damn you, Quade, I really thought you were different.
  10. Quade needs to stop with the Lou-like overmanaging. [expletive].
  11. If by giving up 5 baserunners in 2 games is a beast, then, yeah, he's a beast. They better win this one because Marmol and Wood will be unavailable tomorrow. Probably Marshall too if Quade wants any of them to last past Memorial Day. Samardzija for closer tomorrow! Context is fun, aka I'm sure the errors were his fault, and he needs to more efficiently intentionally walk a batter. He still gave up 3 hits. It's not like he's been invincible. If it were anyone other than Kerry Wood, the man love wouldn't be nearly as high.

  13. Just wait until he develops that power...
  14. i heartily endorse this lineup So do I! Why is it so hard, even for a seemingly good manager like Quade to figure this out?
  15. I actually met Buster Olney the other day and he was a very nice guy. We chatted about the Cubs for about 10 minutes or so and here were some of his thoughts: Zambrano is back and will be very good Pena will be better than last year, but has a hole in his swing everyone knows about Likes Dempster and Wells Thinks Quade is awesome Soriano is done and can't move anymore Thinks Garza will be OK, but is leery of anyone trading with the Rays Overall, he thinks Cubs should be competitive and playing meaningful games in September, but isn't picking them to win the division.
  16. Game, blouses.
  17. Worth every penny, IMO. Thank you Mr. Hendry. Mike Quade so far is turning out to be everything I expected Lou to be when he got here, before it was completely obvious that he just didn't give a crap anymore. Under Quade it seems like the best players will play, regardless of contract or service time, and he won't take any crap from his players. That's how it ought to be. I look forward to his tenure. Until June when Soriano is batting .150 with 2 HR and there's still a Colvin/Byrd/Fuku platoon in CF/RF. Let's be honest here, there are certain contracts that supercede the manager. Silva's wasn't one of those.
  18. Let's hope so, although Baker has proven extremely valuable as a lefty killer. Too bad there's no 2008 Jim Edmonds to platoon with him at 2B.
  19. I think having him on the roster is good in general, but if he gets a lot of starts, our offense is going to be putrid. The fact that Jeff Baker can only hit lefties is very frustrating. So he's Babe Ruth for 1 game and then Rey Rnez for 4 games. Blake DeWitt sucking is not good for the Cubs. Anyone know if there are any legitimate 2B out there for trade or FA after the season?
  20. He is, but Hendry probably wants to save his own ass and have Silva start the year as the #5 starter and Hendry will probably win out. Hopefully they are smart enough together to have Cashner start at AAA instead of wasting him as the 6th inning guy in Chicago. Haven't they already said if Cashner doensn't make the rotation he's going to the bulpen? I don't see any scenario where he's sent down. They are [expletive]. Didn't they learn anything from moving Samardzija back and forth from starting to relief. [expletive] the Cubs.

  22. Phil Rogers is 100% on the Matt Szczur bandwagon, anointing him our next CF hope. Apparently old Phil not impressed with Brett Jackson in CF and putting all of his old-man creepy love to a guy with 25 minor league games: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-spt-0323-rogers-cubs-chicago--20110322,0,4674688.column
  23. yeah, please remember to do this, i'm really thinking of buying something. Ok, here's my report on the Hawks jerseys: First of all, they came in 8 days (sent payment on 3/9, arrived to post office on 3/17), so that was nice. They definitely came from China, but the packaging wasn't damaged or anything like that. The jerseys themselves are pretty good. The material is pretty heavy, like a normal jersey. The logos (chest and shoulder) are legit and in the correct place. The striping is perfect, although the bottom of the jersey is old school straight across instead of the curved "dip" that they have now. Personally, I like that better, but it isn't truly correct. I am 5'11" 190lbs and ordered a Large (50). The length is perfect, but the sleeve underarm area is really big, which is typical for a hockey jersey. One of the jerseys is a bit longer than the other, but not really noticeably so. The numbering on both the sleeves and back are perfect (correct outlines and placement, correct font). The reebok logo on the back top is fine, but there is not a reebok logo on the sleeves (an upgrade in my opinion, but, again, not consistent with an authentic). Now onto the slight negatives: The lettering, while the correct font, appears to be slightly thicker than the authentic/premier. Not too noticeable, but if you really pay attention, it is a bit thicker. The Stanley Cup champions patch is slightly grainy. This could be normal because there is so much detail in such a small patch, but it does appear to be a bit grainy. Again, not something that you would notice off hand, but if you really give it a good look, it could be slightly annoying. Overall, though, it is definitely something I would recommend. For 2 jerseys of high quality, I paid $110 total (including shipping, shipping "insurance"--probably not enforceable, and handling). Considering that is less than the cost of 1 Premier jersey (and 1/4 the cost of 1 Authentic), I think that's a good deal. If I ever buy another jersey, I'll probably go this route. This product appears to be much better than ordering one of those terrible jerseys with the incorrect font and/or non-outlined lettering that also lack sleeve patches, etc...
  24. Yes but now Oliver Prunell is coaching at the one place where his inability to win an NCAA game his entire career won't hurt him. So it only seemed natural that Clemson would win the other night. Clemson may have lost a coach, but they ended up with a huge coaching upgrade. Brownell is excellent. Of course, I'm biased as he went to my high school (though years before me). Brownell is an excellent in game coach, but he is still winning with Purnell's guys. To win at a high major, you have to be able to recruit. It's a hell of a lot more important than being a good coach.
