  1. This is why you lose LeBron and end up in the lottery every year. WTF?

    Rizzo

I'd consider Chris Sale, Yordano Ventura, Jose Fernandez, Carlos Gomez, Josh Donaldson, Yasiel Puig, Anthony Rendon, and Andrew McCutchen, but probably wouldn't pull the trigger on anyone besides Trout. This is a very odd list. I wouldn't consider any of those guys. Maaaaaaaybe Mccutchen. We have Rizzo locked up through 2021 making nothing! Sale has an even more team friendly contract than Rizzo, Ventura/Fernandez are monsters not even arbitration eligible yet, Gomez is probably a stretch and will get paid soon, Donaldson isn't making any money, Puig has a similar contract to Rizzo, Rendon is very young. I don't think any of them would be an immediate no with the possible exception of Gomez and probably Fernandez solely due to the injury.
  3. I would imagine optioning him back to Iowa would be a problem and since it's just a one day thing Beeler is getting the call. Once Hammel and/or Shark are gone I'd bet Wada is the first option since it would be more of a rest of the season type situation. Yeah, they are probably just using that new "if you have a DH, you can call a guy up for just that game" rule that was enacted last year.

  5. Maybe this should be in the "Gam" thread, but how are the number of spots in the World Cup by geography assigned? I assume it has something to do with world rankings, but does it change ever? It's pretty much just assigned randomly by FIFA according to relative strength of each federation, with the host federation usually picking up a freebie. They've lately been splitting bids between federations and having a playoff for the final couple spots, and this cycle there was a CONCACAF-OFC split (Mexico-New Zealand) and a CONMEBOL-AFC split (Uruguay-Jordan). Thanks!

  7. And all of that will result in never winning a title unless they get another FA superstar. Congrats on getting the respect of other owners and the media, though.
  8. Perfect to go watch the 2nd half over lunch somewhere.
  9. Bulls starting five: Joakim Noah Taj Gibson Carmelo Anthony Arron Afflalo Derrick Rose Without injuries and/or Thibs running all those guys into the ground, that's a guaranteed ECF team with an excellent shot at the title. Perimeter/Wing defense not great, but Thibs will just find a bunch of bench guys that can guard if need be.
  10. Wouldn't that become Soldier Field 2.0? Where if you build on that property, the City of Chicago are the rightful owner? The Cubs wouldn't own the stadium so the city would have to come up with the $$$ to build it. I could be totally wrong about this though. Lucas is building the museum, not the city, they are just providing the land. I don't really love the location, mostly pointing out the BS of the city bending over backwards for everyone except the Cubs.
  11. 53% of listeners on Waddle and Silvy said they don't want the Bulls to go after LeBron. I hate Chicago sometimes.
  12. So, the city is leasing lakefront property between soldier Field and Mc Cormick Place to the Lucas Museum for one dollar per year, why wouldn't the cubs take that deal and build a new Wrigley Field there?
  13. I'll say Rizzo for the simple fact that he has proven it at this point, but Bryant has higher upside IMO.
  14. Completely agree on both points. Saric, if nothing else, can be an asset like Mirotic has been. NFL has free agency first, which is great. In basketball where 1 or 2 guys make such a huge difference, it's so weird to have the draft first. Let's say the Bulls trade both picks to free up space for Carmelo and then he signs elsewhere, that would suck. Or let's say the Cavs sign LeBron, wouldn't he/anyone want to have their voice in who the team they are going to drafts #1 overall? Why couldn't they move free agency up to 1 week after the season and then move the draft back to early/mid July? Hell, have it the day after the baseball All Star Game to maximize exposure/ratings. There would still be enough time for the joke known as NBA Summer League to happen after that.
  15. Jean Segura is the best!
  16. To all of you guys who are huge soccer fans, my deepest condolences. While this isn't quite as bad as losing game six in 2003, it certainly does suck.
  17. That tends to happen with beards. Allegedly.
  18. Hey, another guy for Theo & co. to finish 2nd in the bidding for. FUN!
  19. Wow. Spain in serious trouble. #captainobvious
  20. Castro has been outstanding lately. Len and JD pointed out that he took a borderline pitch that would have been strike 3 and ended up with a hit. One sign that he's starting to figure it out more and is really locked in right now. Good times!
  21. Sounds great overall, but he definitely went heavy on the business plan issues and that he knows people are tired of hearing about it, but that it's a reality.
  22. Easily. Haven't looked at like Pete Rose or Ty Cobb's numbers recently. But the closest I've seen was Wade Boggs, and he ran circles around Wade as a hitter. Wouldn't necessarily say that. Boggs (OPS+ of 131, 91 WAR in 18 seasons) and Gwynn (OPS+ of 132 and 69 WAR in 20 seasons) were nearly equal. Boggs had some unbelievable OBP stretches there in the mid 80s. Led the AL 6 out of 7 years! http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/boggswa01.shtml http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/g/gwynnto01.shtml
  23. When soccer players spend all that "100%" doing more than jogging around, we can talk. Yes, because hockey players don't move at anything less than full speed the entire time they're on the ice. You are the one suggesting soccer players do a hell of a lot more than they actually do while playing. I'm saying the people who think soccer should scrap the penalty shootout and just keep playing until somebody scores because that's the way hockey does it are stupid. It's a dumb argument and it doesn't make sense when you actually sit and think about it for a few seconds. Maybe after injury time is over, they loosen the substitution rules or something, allowing a team to empty the bench of fresh players. Or at least play a full extra half (45 minutes) rather than the 30 minutes. Ending a world championship on a shootout will never be OK to me.
