  1. Eastern Conference Semis: Brooklyn over Heat, Bulls over Pacers. It's not out of the realm of possibility.
  2. Just realized I didn't include Soriano in this poll. That was a big mistake. He wouldn't have won, but belongs on there more than several others.
  3. Shark upped his trade value? And Castro took a walk. That's it. Everything else sucked.
  4. I don't agree with that. They're as good as any team in the West. I'm not expecting a repeat Cup, but I'd be surprised and disappointed if they aren't in the West Finals or take the team that beats them to get to the West Finals to a very tough 6-7 games. If they get past Colorado, watch out. I still think they match up very well with St. Louis and Anaheim. And everyone else in the West they should basically slaughter in a 7 game series. If they make the Final, I don't see them losing, either. So, basically, if they make the WCF, I think they win it all.
  5. Dunston was a fairly bad omission by me and Davis to a lesser extent. Thought about Theriot for the awfulness of it all but didn't want to go that direction. Guys like DeRosa were left off for longevity. Looking back, Dempster should have been on there instead of Lilly, but he's a hypocritical d-bag in my opinion, so I don't feel so bad.
  6. @thekapman is posting this on his radio show, so I figured I would ask this board. Do not count anyone who hasn't played a major league game, so Baez, Bryant, etc... don't count. I'll admit, this is heavily balanced from the 80s to present as that's when I have been a fan. Included a couple of guys from the 70s, but they sucked anyway, so probably didn't miss anyone huge.
  7. Not gonna lie, if you told me when I woke up that I would read an argument about Ben Wallace's HOF candidacy, I wouldn't have believed you.
  8. DePaul women, 7 seed, beat #2 Duke on Duke's home court to move on to the Sweet Sixteen. Unfortunately that probably extends the apparent lifetime contract of the awful female AD.
  9. Yes. And if Teuvo gives you a better chance at the Cup, you play him. My guess is that adding Teuvo this year is like adding Kane or Toews was back when they were rookies. He is that good. Also, if you're worried about keeping him 4 years down the line or whatever, that's dumb. Hossa will be gone by then along with a lot of other guys, including Sharp, Oduya, etc.. Sure, you'll have to pay Saad and re-up 19 and 88, but if you think you can win a title, go for it. This isn't like baseball where you can delay a guy coming up until May and you'll still have the guy for the end of the season/playoffs, this IS the end of the season. I just hope that Teuvo doesn't feel too much pressure now with Kane out and can just play his game.
  10. Or just do the wheel, but have a component that is like the baseball draft without the actual returning to school thing. Declare yourself eligible after high school or stay 2 (or 3 years if that's what they determine) in college, that's it. Would give the guys like LeBron and Kobe the chance to go early, everyone else goes to school for 2 or 3 years. Also, for the guys who can't get into or don't want to go to college, they can try and get drafted after HS instead of playing in Europe or JuCo or whatever.
  11. Just stopped by to post that I saw the Javybomb live last night. Really looking forward to 15 years of those. Good god. Whoever throws him a fastball should be fined.
  12. Antwain Jamison Jamison is really close, I think. Maybe something like the overall quality of Jamison, but with more threes and fewer boards, which makes him stylistically more like...Dirk? Wally Sczerbiak? Mark Aguirre?
  13. I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with this except for past butthurt. Pearl is a great basketball coach and an awful human being. Basically the same as 90% of the coaches out there. Perspective: Auburn has made 8 NCAA tournaments in their entire hundred year history, including 4 sweet 16s and 1 elite 8. Pearl has made 8 NCAA tournaments in 10 years coaching at D1 level, including 4 Sweet 16s and 1 Elite 8. It's a no brainer hire even if he gets banned from coaching for life 4 years from now.
  14. Well, there's the violations at Tennessee, too. That's kind of vital to the backstory of what a douche he is. Those Tennessee violations happen at every single program multiple times per year. He got caught and lied is basically the only difference.
  15. Bruce Pearl to Auburn. They will be the 3rd best team in the SEC very, very soon. He's a douche and I know the backstory about the Illinois thing, so save the stories, but he is a heck of a basketball coach. Good for Auburn.
  16. But they won't. Seems like one more year for OP. I hate that this win made me slightly excited for another year with Garrett and Hamilton and hopes of at least competing for an NIT bid. Won't happen. If it was going to happen, it would have been this year with Young and Melvin still around. Despite their flaws, they are eons better than anyone in the pipeline. Unless Garrett somehow becomes a lottery pick next year, DePaul will suck badly again.
  17. Since obviously no one was watching or cares, DePaul beat Georgetown, ending any chance at an at large for the Hoyas. DePaul will now try and prove that the SI cover jinx is real vs. Doug McDermott and Creighton tonight. P.S. DePaul's 4 conference wins are their most since they went 9-8 (inc. conf tourney) in 2007. They should still fire their entire athletic department and coaching staff.
  18. So, does Robert Quinn just go directly into the Hall of Fame after that season, or does he have to finish his career? Almost 3X better than any other DE!! Seriously, though, shows the issue with modeling anything. It's no doubt directionally correct, but I'd be interested to see what their confidence intervals and things like that are. Either way, looks like Lamarr Houston could be a bit better than I thought.
  19. Better get a good backup. 13 games in the last 2 years. Not a difference maker when he is in there. Whatever he costs, I'd rather have spent 500K-1Mil more on someone similar who might actually play 16 games this year. With Briggs, DJ, Bostic, Greene, and McClellin, I'm thinking all we'll add is a mid round type for depth. If there's an injury, maybe they get a vet to come in late. That LB corps scares the crap out of me. More like LB corpse, amirite? :-"
  20. Wow, that seems a bit steep, but, then again, Alcantara has risen quickly, Soler hasn't really shown a ton, and Almora is still very young. I'd really be bummed to give up Almora...at least until watching several 500+ foot HRs that roll down Kenmore.
  21. If they would do Soler, Alcantara, and Vogelbach or anything less than that, I'm in.
  22. Yeah, unfortunately, I'm expecting the bottom to drop out of these TV rights deals at some point when cable companies just tell the teams to go ahead and sell the subscriptions themselves like the WWE is doing with their channel.
  23. The only way a trade for Kesler would work at the deadline it would have to balance out money wise. That would mean having to include Seabrook, Bickell or Oduya or some combination involving at least 1 of those guys. I doubt the Hawks would be willing to part with Seabrook since their D prospects are still too far away to play his minutes, I don't know if Oduya would accept a trade to Van and I'm not sure how either side would feel about Bickell. Van probably like Bickell but not at his price tag. The Hawks probably don't want to give up on him so quickly. It would take Bickell plus. Truthfully I think the Hawks would be better off not making that deal. I think Bickell is a better fit with the current Hawks than Kesler would be. If Bickell was moved another big body net presence would need to be added also. Vancouver really doesn't need d-man that bad unless they trade Edler. Really? Kesler would be the 2nd line center they've needed basically forever. Bickell got overpaid because he had 2 good months. There probably isn't 1 GM in hockey that wouldn't trade Bickell and a 1st round pick for Kesler. And it would probably take more than that.
  24. That has to be worth a middle reliever. From my work, I've come to know that they're still in negotiations to rename the spring training Stadium as well as the "plaza" outside of the renovated Wrigley on the triangle property. They're packaging the two together. Numbers as of now are extremely high, so no one has been able to come to an agreement, including several Fortune 100 companies. Even though terms like this are always relative and this is subjective, I like to hear this. For perspective, the numbers I've heard are similar to full stadium naming rights that other teams have gotten for their primary stadium.
  25. Ryan Kesler apparently wants out of Vancouver. If the Hawks can magically make that happen without giving up 19, 2, or 88, I would lose my mind.
