  1. Thanks. Also, for anyone else interested in joining, the password worked for me in lowercase, not uppercase. If I win, I will finally know what it's like to be that 50 year old woman who has never watched college basketball yet wins the pick em every year. Chalk city, baby!
  2. Not to mention that it was 32 degrees for most of the college baseball season. That being said, the quality of competition isn't as strong as the Pac 12, SEC or other warm weather conferences. What conference is San Diego in? WCC probably, which, though I know much less than I should about college baseball, probably isn't much worse than the B1G.

  4. Yep, while Theo's "plan" has merit, he also could have very easily become the A's if he was smarter. Signing the worst of the 3 cubans (so far), not trading Barney, Gregg, and Russell while they had any value, still not finding a decent veteran reliever, missing on the 1 big contract they did give out (Jackson) have nothing to do with the "not spending money for a while" plan. This was my biggest fear when he took the job and so far it's being realized. Beane and Friedman would have been better choices IMO. Doesn't mean it won't work out or we can't make the playoffs 8 years in a row and win a title, but the early returns are discouraging when you see the Oakland freaking A's playing like the 27 Yankees on a comparable payroll.
  5. Not working for me, either. I'd like to participate.

Among MLB 1b: 2nd in OBP 7th in SLG 6th in OPS 5th in WAR (2.0--not sure which WAR metric they use) All per ESPN.com this morning. Pimp!
  8. Oh for fucks sake, this is unreal.
  9. Ah, the old Vogelbach fallacy.
  10. They should dangle him over the field tonight in a cage and the winner gets him AND the other team's pick. Loser gets canceled Bernie Madoff checks and a landmark commission hearing. Might actually get decent attendance for that.
  11. If the Bulls could get the #1 pick straight up for Joakim Noah, they should be looking around for the Candid Camera. A 29 year old center with a decently long injury history and a $10MM contract for a stud young player making 1/3 of that for the next 4 years. Pick Embiid to replace Noah and then have the cap space for Carmelo. Rose/Butler/Carmelo/Taj/Embiid is a fantastic starting lineup. And it will never happen unless David Kahn is running the Cavs all of a sudden.
  12. Also, one quote said that the Cubs wanted (and got from 780) an upfront cash payment. Fuels the #poortomricketts narrative.
  13. Sweet, we get the daily Bryant HR before lunch today!
  14. Well, he brought nothing to the table in the conference finals and his contract sucks. It is too high of a salary cap hit for a guy who isn't a great goalie. He's not horrible, but that fact means nothing when he is getting $6m a year for several years with a team that needs overwhelming offensive firepower to win. This team wins and loses on its skaters. The goalie has not been part of the core that needs to be maintained. Completely agree. I wouldn't even call it hate for Crawford, it's more like a realistic view of his role on this team and the view of a goalie in general. Heck, look at the Kings, they are going to the Final in spite of Quick, not because of him and he's almost universally regarded as being better than Crawford. To tie up those resources on a goalie is really tough and will probably cost them a guy like Sharp or Seabrook moving forward. I would say that the incremental value of Crawford over Niemi or Raanta is less than the gap between Sharp and someone like Morin or Nordstrom.
  15. Hahahhahaha. What a franchise! Still salty they have titles. Proof that sports aren't fair.
  16. Oduya? And Handzus last year
  17. Iowa getting no hit after six. Worst game ever to have on TV. Thanks, Obama!
  18. Agreed, but those are specifically mentioned in the Landmark Status the building has.
  19. @thekapman Tweeting that he's hearing the new plan doesn't have the full support of the Landmarks Commission and it won't necessarily be a rubber stamp from them. Only specific thing he mentioned was the removal of some of the bricks & ivy to create another "knothole" for the bullpens. He didn't infer that it wouldn't go through, but said it was "ridiculous that they didn't have full support" before going this far.
  20. Translation: They told me I'm playing nickel, I got a decent contract extension, I'm not going to be an [expletive] about it like other guys might be.
  21. Hahahaha. Look how high the bleachers go and THEN a huge sign on top of them. [expletive] you, rooftops!
  22. Baez plays the most premium position, is a year younger and at a more advanced level. I hardly think it's crazy. I'm not saying it's not debatable, but it's not something that nobody should think. Completely agree. MAYBE you could say that Bryant has a higher floor or better probablility of success, but to say he has a higher combination of probability of success and ceiling (which is basically what prospect rankings are IMO), still isn't true.
  23. It's obvious anytime he gives an interview. I kept expecting him to be the one to go ballistic in the clubhouse but that would indicate that he still had hopes of turning things around with this team. He'll probably just refuse to sign an extension with anyone in a trade and then sign with the White Sox as a way to get his "revenge" on the Cubs for sucking so much.
  24. Do they have 1 safety on their roster that would start on any other team in the NFL right now? Before picking Kelvin Benjamin the Carolina Panthers top 3 WRs were Jerricho Cotchery, Jason Avant, and Marvin McNutt. Their LT as of right now is someone named Byron Bell or someone named Nate Chandler... I would estimate that those positions are more important than safety and those players are junk... Avant and Cotchery were bad #3 WRs last year, even though Cotchery somehow caught 10 TDs You got me, those Panthers WRs are truly atrocious. Good lord.
  25. Do they have 1 safety on their roster that would start on any other team in the NFL right now? Well Mundy started all last year for NYG and MD started all last year for GB. now i'm not arguing either is the answer long-term for the Bears, but I answered your question. That was last year, and they both got extremely low contracts Mundy (2/$3 with $800k guaranteed) and Jennings (1/$745k with $0 guaranteed) meaning that basically no one else wanted them, particularly Jennings who took $0 guaranteed. Both of those defenses were pretty weak last year (Giants 18, Packers 25--per pro football reference). Again, Fuller will be fine, I just don't see how they could have passed on a first round Safety with this group of safeties on their roster.
