  1. Aka: [expletive] Gordon Wittenmeyer. He's the worst.
  2. No, still frowned upon by the moral police of this board.
  3. It's not like they didn't try, they just sucked at it. I don't know if you could say they tried very hard. They didn't seem to care about acquiring players just to get draft picks like the Red Sox did and rarely overslotted (Samardzija is the only one I can think of). Or maybe it's just the awful development that's clouding my judgement. Josh Vitters will haunt my dreams forever.
  4. I would hope so because otherwise, that's silly. It's like a throwback to the Hendry days if that's their biggest signing of the offseason. How can you value a top 15 pick so lightly? What is it exactly that you think the Hendry days were? I remember the Hawkins signing pissing me off since it was just a reliever that lost them the pick. But I don't remember that being a pattern. That was the main (only?) loss of a first round pick. But, also the general love for veteran guys and complete disregard for spending/investing in the farm system.

  6. Hatin Ass Spurrier is back. A couple of gems: I know you're happy, Oregon, but Sonny Bono coulda beat the trees if you gave him enough chances. It's a big win, but the least a Catholic football school should do is contain seamen, Notre Dame. http://www.everydayshouldbesaturday.com/2014/11/4/7155027/hatin-ass-spurrier-crashes-your-cocktail-party
  7. Unless they never sign another free agent, they'll always be paying for past performance. Jon Lester, Max Scherzer, whoever else they get on the FA Market could sign a deal every bit as bad as Soriano's ended up being (bad, but not franchise crippling).
  8. Unless there are deferred payments, they should be done. 8 year contract ended with the final out of the 2014 season.
  9. Branden Oliver and Marques Colston as my Flex over Eric Decker and Denard Robinson. Cost me 30 points in PPR. Thanks, guys!
  10. This is a better thread. Thanks. $4MM with $2MM available in incentives. Good for depth.
  11. Per a tweet from the official Cubs handle, @Cubs, Wada is back for 2015 at $4MM with an additional $2MM available in incentives. Good depth signing, IMO.
  12. I thought that was strange as well. If for any reason it doesn't happen, they look eternally stupid.
  13. Yes, grandfathered in since 2002. Expanded from 2 to 4 seats in 2004.
  14. We split our 4 tickets to 2 in the 400 level and left 2 in the 500 level. Not everyone in our group was ready to spend the money to upgrade to 400 level. We stayed with the combo plan, but will probably go to full seasons for 2016 assuming they make some strides this year.
  15. That's fair. Tough to sell a sport, though, without a title of some sort. Even in the "poll" days, people were obsessed with crowning a mythical champion. The growth of revenue in college football can be almost directly correlated to 3 things: 1. Football's overall popularity 2. Growth in the % of people going to college 3. Rise of the Bowl Alliance/Bowl Coalition/BCS/Playoff (this is why it will eventually be 8 or 12 or 16 teams) I would like the whole thing to figure itself out by the lower conferences (MAC, Sun Belt, Mountain West, CUSA, AAC) to just form their own division, have the power 5 add a few teams that belong in those groups (ND, maybe BYU, Boise, a few others--UCONN maybe, ECU maybe), then have an 8 team playoff. I highly doubt that ever happens, though, because of all of the backroom dealing and general awfulness of college sports.
  16. It's ironic because out of all of the sports, College Football probably needs a BIGGER playoff to justify crowning someone the champion. In order of sports that "need" a playoff (from least to most), I'd probably go here: MLB (if you can't tell the best team after 162 games, then....) NBA (1st or 2nd best team wins playoffs ~90% of the time) NHL (enough regular season games to figure it out despite the recent rash of lower seeded teams making the Final) NFL (need at least a championship game due to number of teams/games) College Football (so many teams...) College Basketball (so many teams/conferences...though a 16/32 team playoff for this is probably better for crowning the actual best team, which rarely happens in a 1 and done tournament)
  17. It came out that he was injured. Yost wanted to start him Game 1 of the ALDS, but doctors said he could only go 2 innings at a time. Last night he wouldn't have been better than any of the guys who pitched the last 5+ innings. Could argue to start him over Guthrie, I guess.
  18. "Usually when 82 meets 27 in Texas the kids end up hiring a lawyer to contest the will." New Hatin Ass Spurrier. http://www.everydayshouldbesaturday.com/2014/10/28/7084013/hatin-ass-spurrier-buries-week-nine-in-the-endzone
  19. Though they continue to cherish their independence, I wonder if this would lead ND to consider a conference. As of now, theoretically, there could be 4 teams in the playoff that aren't conference winners (extremely unlikely, I know), but that number goes down to 3 with this potential format and, more importantly, guarantees the conference champ a spot. I don't think they would join, but you never know. Chance at a guaranteed spot for joining the B1G or ACC might make it more appealing. I'm sure they would make some sort of ND rule like they did for the BCS, like if ND is in the top 8 of their rankings they have to be picked. Their continued sway over an entity far bigger than them is unbelievable. I actually don't mind ND, but am perplexed as to why the powers that be continue to let them do whatever the hell they want. It's really something, probably helped out by the fact that the NCAA is such an awful organization with no real power. Good for them, I guess.
  20. Are you really basing this off a PFF score? He was fine yesterday. The throws over 20 yards were the Hail Mary, at least 2 non-called DPIs, 1 throw away, and the great Bennett catch, which actually was called DPI too. Oh Hell no, but the fumble was all on him and he again he didn't look that great. He is getting paid like a top QB, he needs to cut down on the turnovers and make better decisions. "Fine" isn't going to get the Bears in the playoff hunt this year or next. He needs to take the next step with his turnovers and get that fixed. Once that is done I think he has a chance to be great and in turn the Bears will be great. Jay is not going to change in year 10. He's turnover prone and his mechanics are questionable. He is who he is at 31 years of age. I still don't know why they didn't just franchise him. By paying him so much up front anyway, it would have been a fine option to get another year of analysis on him. Oh well, 2 more years and then another decision and will probably line up with Emery/Trestman either getting extensions or getting fired.

  22. A couple of bad Cutler INTs against Buffalo and Carolina and the Bears are 5-3 Yeah, playing the "what if" game is actually a positive for the Bears. They really should be 5-3 or even 4-4 if you want to give the 49ers that win.
  23. Not being able to handle a not vicious at all joke on a message board about someone that you have never met dying. Really? Can you people handle watching the evening news without crying?
  24. Expand the playoff to 5 teams so all of them can get in. Or to 8, you mean. Those 5 plus FSU, and 2 of Oregon/MSU/TCU/Kansas State if they win out.
  25. This is awful. Never want to see any young person pass this early, especially someone with such a bright future. That being said, I'm sure the commissioner will award the Cards some sort of compensation pick that will end up being the next Pujols.
