  1. Castro not being on, let alone getting HM, seems like it may be his biggest oversight of any player. At least 73 guys having more trade value than Clayton Kershaw makes me think this was written by some shmuck at fangraphs. From the article. Reading is fun: "Clayton Kershaw is still a highly desirable commodity despite the $193 million owed to him over the next six years, but the clause in his contract that grants him free-agency rights at year’s end if he’s traded in-season or the same rights at the end of a full campaign if he’s dealt in the offseason substantially undercut his trade value" A half season of Clayton Kershaw is an immensely valuable asset. Keri's the same guy out there talking about how guys don't have much trade value because of their monster contracts, and yet he's not valuable because he can opt out? If the Cubs were 5 games in first place on July 31st, would you trade Rizzo, Bryant, Soler, Baez, or Castro for 3 months of Kershaw and a *chance* to be able to re-sign him for 10/$300 in an open market situation?
  2. Excellent. Preseason, I had them at 6-6 right now winning the last 4 to get into the playoffs. The only reasonably possible thing (i.e. not actually beating the Pats, Packers or Lions) better than flipping that result would be flipping the Panthers result, which would help with the conference record tiebreaker. For as much as they've played like ass, to have expected them to be any better than 7-5 going into tonight's game would have been pretty optimistic.

  4. I like it better than it being further into right center. But, the original design was the best.
  5. Deadspin commenters (reliable source, I know!) say that he was shitfaced.
  6. Mississippi State, Georgia, and UCLA would have pissed away a chance at the 8 spot. Possibly AZ/AZ State loser as well. And, really, Oregon/TCU/Baylor/OSU would have been borderline top 8 if they'd have lost last week. Going to 8 would mean at least two 2 loss teams getting in most years and losing late and/or to bad teams would kill a lot of those hopes. I don't necessarily think it would water down the regular season unless they went more than 12 teams. However, I still see how 4 is good. Losing 2 games or more is your own fault.
  7. http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20141202/BLOGS04/141209919/cubs-trim-wrigley-signs-to-win-federal-tax-credit?X-IgnoreUserAgent=1 So whoever posted that picture with the arrows earlier was wrong? I actually don't mind the video board being along the foul pole and the script sign where the video board was. Won't look as "crowded" as I thought.
  8. Yeah, he better be injured or something. Wright was fine and not getting paid a ton. Seems like a waste of value.
  9. Obviously if they switched the playoff, they would go to 8, award auto bids for the 5 and give 3 at large, but if it were a 6 team playoff to award byes, it would have worked out perfectly this year (pending disaster for someone on Saturday). Alabama & Oregon bye. TCU vs. Baylor, FSU vs. OSU That would be fun. The more you look at it, though, I'm still OK with 4 at the current time. Are we REALLY going to start rewarding teams that lose twice? 1 loss is possible (bad day, tough schedule, etc..), 2 is kind of your own fault. If you know this going in, maybe don't schedule little sisters of the poor in the non-conference. I wonder historically how many big 5 programs had 1 loss or fewer after the conference championship weekend? I would guess somewhere between 3 and 6?
  10. It's more of a giant "F You" to those rooftop owners along Sheffield, that's for sure.
  11. I think that's directionally right, but they have a little more hope than the average team in their situation given their conference and location. If you can make DePaul a decent/tourney team you'll be sought after, but by that point there's more than a few power conference jobs that wouldn't even be upgrades. Plus with the recent trend of coaches not jumping for better program prestige/cash at the drop of a hat, as long as DePaul wasn't stingy I bet they could keep a good coach for a while. Yep. They clearly have the $$$ to pay a decent coach. They didn't when they lost Leitao (though rumor had it his family hated living in the city so they lived in Long Grove and that was as big of a factor of him leaving as anyone), but realize you have to pay up now. The lack of a fan base would be more a reason to leave than money. Then again, if they ever get to a point where someone wanted to hire the coach away, they would presumably be a good team with a new arena in a pretty good conference with a likely increase in fan support so who knows? I would kill to be in a position of coming off 3 consecutive postseason appearances at this point.
  12. I don't even care how much we would pay for Lester or if it's even a good idea at this point. The last 5 years have been awful and the next 5-10 should be better, even with an albatross contract. I'm just ready to actually be excited for a Cubs season for once and signing Lester would make it that much more exciting. Just seeing that someone else appears to believe in what the Cubs are doing instead of going to the Red Sox or Cardinals would be excellent. And to get a guy with his talent without giving up any of the exciting young guys is even better. Total meatball feelings everywhere, but I don't care. And, yes, I'll be the same guy to complain when/if the contract hamstrings us into not being able to sign Free Agent X two years from now. Hahaha.
  13. It's not going to be a big named coach. I am not sure which way DePaul should go... they either need to get a coach that can maximize the talent of lower rated players, or a coach with strong Chicago ties in an attempt to get a Chicago pipeline growing. But if Illinois can't do it, I really don't think DePaul can beat the likes of Duke, Kentucky, Illinois, etc to get anyone worthwhile. But from what I understand, Purnell hasn't really done a good job of establishing relationships with the powerful HS coaches in the area and is still seen as an outsider. They need to hire a young go-getter who really knows the Xs and Os. They aren't going to be able to get 4-5 stars out of Chicago either way. I'd rather have someone who can maximize mid tier talent. I wouldn't say Purnell was a good hire when it happened and especially not now. The guy has NEVER won an NCAA tournament game and Clemson wasn't too upset to lose him. It's not like Rick Pitino came in and couldn't win at DePaul.
  14. Most likely unless he miraculously finishes above .500. They'll want to give a new coach a "burn year" before the new stadium opens midway through the 2016-2017 season. Program is dead, though, and the AD sucks, so maybe they keep him another year.
  15. DePaul had their annual WTF loss by 11 to Lehigh on Wednesday...and followed it up by hammering a decent Stanford team by 15 today. Weird.
  16. Hahahaha. Agreed. http://cdn.meme.am/instances/250x250/55679077.jpg
  17. So you're saying you wouldn't trade having to keep Mike Smith a few more years for a Super Bowl? I think every Bears fan here would trade off having to give Trestman a 10 year extension for a super bowl this year. Yeah, who the hell are the Falcons? They've NEVER won the Super Bowl. I don't care how it happens, they should build a statue of the coach that eventually does it. I'd rather have 1 Super Bowl followed by 10 years of awful and then another 1 awesome Super Bowl win than the 30 years of mediocrity the Bears have had since they last won.
  18. [expletive] you, Red Sox. You have your 3 titles, just collect the money like the Yankees are choosing to do. Let us have something you bastards!
  19. Signed him to an unnecessary extension earlier this season, 3 more years after this one. I think it was 3/$40 with ~$20 guaranteed. Fun! Does Emery know franchise tag exists?
  20. I'll be in attendance. Making the trip with my dad and brother. As long as it's not a blowout, I'll take it. Just glad the game is actually meaningful versus what it could have been without two wins the past two weeks. I think the Lions win 23-10 or something along those lines. Their defense is just going to be too much for the Bears.
  21. Maybe Martinez can bang Cindy Sandberg in the locker room for old times sake.
  22. I found the Yahoo Playoff Scenario Generator....I don't think it's meant to work until after next week because Week 12 isn't on there, but I made a scenario where the Bears are the #1 seed and the Lions and Packers both miss the playoffs :) https://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/playoffscenario?algorithm=custom&10=1015410&11=D4000400&12=14000001&13=44400040&14=15004104&15=11001401&16=50044410 Bears winning out against a NFC heavy schedule, including 2 vs. Detroit would set them up extremely well for tiebreakers. I have a scenario with 8 teams in NFC being 10-6 or better and Bears getting in (via tiebreaker over Dallas, Detroit, and Seattle). You could even flip a San Fran win to a loss and get the Bears the 5th seed. https://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/playoffscenario?algorithm=custom&10=1015410&11=C0000000&12=41011001&13=11040010&14=01000015&15=54051004&16=00144414
  23. Pretty clear top 4 to me. Miss St has an argument too. But no reason to think these aren't the 4 best teams. OSU lost to Virginia Tech. At home. Probably ok to question them in favor of TCU or Baylor.
  24. Yeah, this isn't a case of the media jumping at the first opportunity to criticize Marshall. If anything he's made it impossible for them to keep pretending everything was just fine. There's been a definite uptick in the "crazy", without a doubt. But I do feel like there's a certain amount of the local media that has been waiting for just that. I'm not saying it's unjustified, unfortunately. Not coincidentally, it came right after Emery gave him a contract extension. Does Emery know the franchise tag exists?
  25. No, still frowned upon by the moral police of this board. Are you kidding? Have you seen imb's cardinals in hell collage? Go read the locked thread.
