  1. Can anyone remember a year when more name players (whether they deserve that designation or not) have been DFA'd? Are we seeing a new collective attitude from the teams in general when it comes to cutting ties with underachieving players? It sure seems like it.
  2. See, that's why they don't have a playoff in college football. Isn't it more fun to be able to debate who the real champion was? As an IU fan, that is one debate I am pretty much shielded from.
  3. I was wondering if it was tribute to G'NR.
  4. Did those two events have anything to do with one another?
  5. In his previous three seasons with the Devil Rays, Jorge Sosa never managed an ERA under 4.62. As of today, his ERA in Atlanta is 2.36.
  6. I don't disagree. However, my question is this: if we need a lefty replacement for the pen, why not bring up Rohlicek (sp?)? A. He has spent the entire year in relief. B. I'm pretty sure he has slightly better numbers. C. We have seen Koronka at the ML level, but not Rohlicek. D. Rohlicek, like Koronka, is on the 40 man. Is there a service time detriment to bringing up Rohlicek that is truly prohibitive? If we needed a pen lefty because management believes we are still in it, then Bartosh would have been the best choice due to his experience and numbers. The decision, while not having a major impact, is indicative of the curious thought processing that is going on with management. Thats what is the most difficult for me to swallow.
  7. Yes he is. While he has had some limited success, the jury is still out on Williams in my book. I wouldn't bat an eye if he were moved.
  8. By getting out more, I assume he means them getting out of their headquarters in Indiana, meaning "the Land of Indians" according to Wikipedia. (I know I brought this up earlier, but the irony floors me.)
  9. Baker can't really afford to have too many examples of he and Hendry not being on the same page.
  10. That was a great highlight. I don't think I've ever seen the hidden ball trick successfully used at third base before last night.
  11. Are you saying this was a board sanctioned conclusion? Otherwise, I'd really like to know which posters said Choi, Dubois and Bobby Hill were "can't miss" prospects. I don't recall anyone making such bold claims. Expressing confidence that players can succeed based on their minor league numbers doesn't equate to calling them "can't miss" prospects. Arguing for them to receive playing time over other players doesn't fill the bill either.
  12. No, we aren't. Kansas City gave up something like 11 runs in the 9th inning to lose a game earlier this week. (Importantly, Andy Sisco gave up none in his 1.1 innings of work with 2 Ks.)
  13. While that may be his intent, someone should tell him that bringing Koronka back up doesn't show anybody you are trying to win.
  14. I'm going with Tree on this one. That goes without saying. My suggestions make sense, which is contrary to the end sought by management these days.
  15. If Hill is sent out, I would rather Bartosh was returned to the pen and Rusch inserted into the rotation. Better yet, have Koronka take Wood's place because he is getting prepped for surgery.
  16. Brownlie got robbed.
  17. Jesus Christ, IMB. You have absoloutley no idea of my skill level, whatsoever. And untill you do, just stop spewing out trash like that. You have no clue in the world what kind of fighter I am. It is increadably insulting to me that I have been taking martial arts for ten years and you come out with this crap saying that if I ever got into a real fight I'd have no idea what to do. Maybe, just maybe, he is just trying to get your roasted goat. Your point is exactly right, he doesn't know your skill level. Thus, the likely conclusion is that he is teasing you. Don't get worked up over it.
  18. Should we really count on Dopirak to develop into a ML quality hitter? No question that he is having a poor transition to High A. Still, that doesn't completely dismiss his accomplishments last year. It will, however, place particular pressure on his '06 season. I maintain that he needs shipped to an AL team. He seems perfect for a Huff trade, but that doesn't appear at all likely. He could also be moved to Colorado if a deal for Helton was made after dealing Lee to NY for ARod. 8)
  19. Scott, if anyone is still in the denial stage, it has got to be you. That isn't meant in a bad way at all. The thing is, I couldn't even force myself to type half of the stuff you do in maintaining your "spirited" defense of this team's chances at coming out of their funk. You were in there until the end today in the game thread, despite people like me telling you that you were crazy. (Exaggeration, but you get my point.)
  20. Done. Seriously, package him with some pitching and bring in ARod. I wouldn't even demand much cash, considering the Yankees are only paying about $17M/year for him. Then, in the interim until Dope or Sing is ready, see if you can pry Helton away from Colorado. They will pay something to be rid of him. Lee has been a monster. But, he is quickly returning to his career norms. It would be unusual for the Cubs to identify moving a player at their highest value, but it should be considered. With ARod, ARam and Helton around the diamond, there would be enough punch to offset the anorexic FA OF market.
  21. I thought it was funny.
  22. get ready...you will be hearing it if brownlie comes up and doesn't throw four straight shut outs. hope you can 'take it'! Oh, I can take it. I've lugged his banner this far and warded off the haters for two seasons. I'd be happy to continue my awkward support at the ML level.
  23. If Hendry were sent packing, I could see Andy taking over for a spell again. Remember, he relinquished the reins, in part, because he was involved in the labor talks.
