  1. Alex Rodriguez told Bob Costas in a nationally syndicated radio interview in September that he might retire once his current 10-year contract expires after the 2010 season. It's news now because no one heard it then, apparently. "I don’t really see myself playing past this contract," Rodriguez said in the interview three months ago. At the time, he was likely frustrated with the way his season had progressed. "I believe he was speaking honestly from the frame of mind that he was in at the time," Costas said in a telephone interview yesterday. "He was very matter of fact and there was no anger in his voice. It was a tone of resignation." Considering that A-Rod has been adamant recently that he wants to stay in New York, it seems doubtful that he feels quite the same way. There's little chance that A-Rod will call it a career at age 35. Source: New York Times http://www.rotoworld.com/content/home_MLB.aspx?sport=MLB
  2. I'm gonna be so pissed off if they give him #21. I hope that doesn't happen!!!!
  3. Jae Kuk Ryu is still listed as wearing No. 20. Subject to change at any time, certainly, but No. 20 Ryu and No. 17 Pie is what the roster says at present. Yeah, I saw that too. Pie shouldn't be #17, that was only good for Gracie. (Bobby Hill sucked in it.) I believe he wears #22? in the minors, but in the winter leagues he wore #20 from pictures I've seen.
  4. Why do you say that? I would guess #20, but that's just me.
  5. WWOOOOWWWWW!!! Z jump over 100 pts!!!! Jesus!!!!
  6. ha ha I'm doing my best to learn the rules ASAP. My first order of business is to come up with a new team name. How about the Smokies?
  7. FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reports that Peter Angelos and Cal Ripken Jr. are discussing a gradual transfer of ownership of the Orioles to a group that would include Ripken. The sooner the better. However, Rosenthal reports the chances of such a sale occurring anytime soon are remote and that the 77-year-old Angelos may decide to leave the club to his sons rather than sell. 8. I know they signed Matt Harrington to a minor league deal. He was a #1 pick in 2000.
  9. It seems as though the Cubs believe that their offense will be so productive that Pie could simply play defense and any offense he provides would be a bonus. I'm not sure that he's ready, but if he wasn't expected to do anything offensively and he could play everyday, I don't think I'd mind. Cubs would have to upgrade a position in order to do that, though.
  10. Interesting stuff. They really don't say he IS going to be in CF, but they seem to be thinking about it. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20061214&content_id=1761233&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
  11. MLB suspended RHP Hector Noesi 50 games for violating the league's policy against performance-enhancing drugs. Noesi, who turns 20 in January, appeared in five games for the Rookie GCL Yankees last season and allowed one run in seven innings. The Dominican right-hander struck out 11 and walked one. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/Home_MLB.aspx
  12. HBC fans wouldn't have to wait for their fiery owner to re-up w/ Z!!!!
  13. Why base it on new scores? I've been fiddling with my roster this offseason based off of old scores. I would tend to agree w/ this.
  14. Instead of working this deal, I'd rather trade w/ Boston.......... who is also looking for a closer. I'd do: Cubs trade: JJones Dempster Eyre Marshall Mateo Guzman Boston trade: Manny Ramirez Have Pie play CF, Soriano in RF, Manny in LF and we wouldn't need to upgrade SS. Ok, I'm dreaming, I know!
  15. WFAN is reporting that Mr. Henry's plane is in route to Boston w/ Matsuzaka AND Boris. One can assume that a deal is either done, or very close to done. Physical should be today.
  16. True, which makes the walk rate going up even more worrisome A sign of him being overworked? Much more likely than a sign of garaunteed health and dominance. And as far as Z = Maddux, how likely is it that Z becomes one of the top 5 pitchers of all time? Cause Maddux is right behind Clemens in my mind. Career wise, Maddux will probably have the better numbers overall. What I'm saying is that Z is as important to the Cubs as Maddux was when he left. Furthermore, if Z stays healthy I see no reason why he couldn't be a top 10 pitcher all-time.
  17. If he walks next year..................it's the second coming of Greg Maddux. Seriously, I don't want to go throught that again!!!!!
  18. I think a 10yr. 252.5 Million will get it done!
  19. Cuban defector Juan Miranda said he has signed a four-year, $2 million contract with the Yankees. Miranda defected to the Dominican Republic in 2004 and gained citizenship last year. The left-handed hitter claims he's 23, but is probably older. He's capable of playing first base and some outfield. Miranda said he picked the Yankees over the Dodgers. "Miranda is projected to hit over 20 home runs and hit .280," a Yankees official told ESPNdeportes.com. "He doesn't swing at bad pitches." Time will tell about that. He seems like a long shot to contribute next season. Source: ESPN Deportes
  20. Guys, I have some interesting decisions w/ my team. This is the first year that VMart is not exempt and while I'll probably still keep him, I will listen to offers. I also have some big bats and can't keep them all: Berkman Giambi Delgado Ichiro Renteria Mora I don't have as many pitchers: Zambrano (He's always been on HBC since Roadkill's inception. Would be hard to get him as well.) Pedro (255.2 pts. cheap to fix, but probably won't pitch until midseason) Pettitte (Back with the Yanks should help) Gil Meche (I promise he won't cost 55 million) Feel free to give me an offer. Chuck
  21. Would be nice to get Campsuano back!
  22. i disagree. this is very different from an arbitration player, because matsuzaka has the option of not playing for the team and eventually playing in major league baseball for another team. an arbitration-eligible player does not. boston is using their massive bid for his rights to try to guilt matsuzaka/boras into accepting their lowball offer, which is way below what matsuzaka is actually worth. i do agree that the system is very, very broken. and it looks like boston is exploiting it to their advantage, just like every other "loophole" they can find. every day, this team finds more and more ways for me to think they are worse for baseball than the yankees An arbitration player can't say "no" and go play in an unaffilliated league? I believe they can, just like a draftee that doesn't want to sign can, I believe. Didn't J.D. Drew do something like this?
  23. There's a moral consequence for Mats not to sign as well. From what I have read, it would be somewhat of a scarlet letter on him in Japan if he doesn't sign. Maybe someone with more knowledge of the Japanese culture can add to this.
  24. There's alot of "ifs" still out there, but I don't believe that the Cubs are done this offseason either. The Cubs, IMO, have improved enough so far to compete in the Central. We can all admit that several things contributed to the Cubs only winning 66 games in '06. They were a much better team then that. A full season of DLee, adding Soriano, having ARam back, and having depth at P will help transform the club. The club should have been close to .500 in '06 which would have competed for the division. The club as it stands now is better and will be better then 66 wins.
