  1. He actually played more games in RF last year. He can play both corner OF positions and 1B. Is he taking Jones' place? Mabry's I would think
  2. Here's the link for his positions played breakdown: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6002/career;_ylt=AtyX2AV.s8eRJcEN6Qt1sJeFCLcF

  4. Don't know if anyone heard the interview with Lilly's agent on XM. Basically he said that Soriano was a big part of Lilly signing. Said that Lilly helped Soriano learn english when they were roomates and teammates with the Yankees. WFAN reported that Lilly's agent called the Yankees and to see if they would match the deal so that Lilly could go there and Cashman declined. I didn't hear any audio of Lilly's agent saying this though, so I'm not sure that that's true.
  5. XM Radio is reporting that Schmidt has his choice down to 3 teams: Mariners, Dodgers, and Cardinals. Doesn't sound good, but hopefully Hendry's still talking to him and his agent.
  6. Don't know much about this guy, but "Night Train" Lane on XM175 reported earlier this afternoon that quote: "The Cubs are believed to be the frontrunner for Schmidt's services." If this is true, could it be an issue where other clubs seemingly backoff like with Zito? I know there's still interest out there for Zito, but I've heard many teams say they basically aren't going to bother because they believe the Mets will pay anything to get him. Just something to throw out there, especially give the way the Cubs have spent this offseason.
  7. Boston isn't trading Manny unless they sign JD Drew to complement Pena and Crisp. I very much doubt they'd take back Murton and Jones... just cause they don't need outfielders. Marshall has the ceiling of a #4 starter, and Ohman is your standard LOOGY. The Red Sox would never accept that trade. From what I understand, Boston is mostly looking for prospects in return, plus a few arms capable of contributing from the pen. Ohman could probably stay in that deal, but Veal, Gallagher, Pie, Pawelek, and EPatt are all going to be asked for before Murton, Jones, or Marshall. Well, apparently the BoSox and Drew have agreed in principle to a deal and it's just a matter of paperwork/physical. I know we've all heard the rumors for weeks, but it seems to be a done deal. While I think it's obsurd to even think about trading a guy like ManRam, no matter how "nuts" he is............. I'd love to see Hendry pull that one off. From what I have heard and read, the BoSox want pitching and SS. They seem to have a pretty set rotation and have some prospects in the wings that could fill rotation spots if need be. I would start with a package of Izturis, Dempster, Eyre, and Marshall/Mateo. I'd even be willing to put EPatt in the mix if they have interest in him. I'd prefer to keep Pie if the Cubs could manage that, simply because with corner OF of ManRam and Soriano the Cubs would need someone that cover a huge amount of ground. The fans of the club that lands him if he is indeed traded should be thrilled. The only other fans that should be thrilled as well are Yanks fans.
  8. I think he may have a shot. Ozzie made it for God's sake!
  9. ManRam would be SWEET! And I agee, Pie should ONLY be up on Opening Day if the Cubs don't need anything from his spot in the line-up. Anything he would provide offensively would be a bonus.
  10. My opinion on Pie is that he should be in CF this year if he has a good ST. I know he's probably not completely ready at the plate, but with Soriano and Murton on the corners, Pie could command alot of ground in CF. He doesn't need to bat 4 or 5 in the line-up. If I was Hendry I'd make that public too. I would parallel it with what the Yanks did with Melky a couple of years back..................... we don't need the offense, just caught the ball. In Melky's case, he couldn't catch the ball, so they sent him back down. I think Pie could bat 7th and play CF. He'd be a huge asset and eventually I think his bat would come around.
  11. Shouldn't we hear about who won his posting soon?
  12. For a guy like Peavy, nobody is untouchable. Aren't there some serious concerns about Peavy's health? I would be shocked if the Cubs dealt Gallagher. I would also be pretty disappointed because, I am really looking forward to going to Iowa and seeing him pitch next year. HERE, HERE!!!!
  13. Contracted. Where you been? Better than Kurt Douglas surfing through their streets, or am I getting confused? Nah, you're pretty much right on target. I was looking for a picture of Charley Steiner with a tie around his noggin', but I couldn't find it. "INSERT CHARLEY STEINER FOLLOW ME TO FREEDOM PICTURE HERE." One of the ALL-TIME classics!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPt3eLv7Ie0
  14. None others have been made public yet. Houston had made an offer, but I don't know if the numbers were released on it. I believe they made it on the same day that they offered on to CLee.
  15. Which gets to my point. If the Cubs have told Hendry he can spend up to the luxury tax limit, then I really don't have anything against this signing other than length of the deal, which was going to be required to get him on board. As long as we can still make the other required upgrades, I'm okay with things. In general, I prefer a "Stars and Scrubs" approach, because it is easier to upgrade the scrubs later on. Now, just how much of a "star" Soriano is going to be is very open for debate. I'm personally optimistic that he is turning a corner with his pitch recog. / plate discipline. I'm hoping that bringing in Perry as hitting coach will help if Soriano can adapt to the zone hitting approach. BTW - If I had unlimited funds this offseason, I'd sign Drew for CF, trade for Manny, put Murton in RF and stick Fonzie at 2B. Defense be damned. :) I think we can all agree that this offseason is much different then others that we've all come a custom to. If Soriano signings limited the Cubs ability to improve other facets of the team I would be against it, but I think the Cubs are still looking to add the needed ingrediants. Tim, if funds are unlimited............ I would love to see an OF of MRam, Drew, and Murton. I also wouldn't mind if Pie was in CF if Murton were to be traded in a deal for pitching.
  16. I don't know if this has been brought up, but the issue w/ Glavine is alittle unique. He has a player option this year and a team option for next year, I believe the two years are for 8.5 and 14.5 which is pretty close to the price he'd be getting with the current deal. Sorry, I don't have all the info, but I was listening to WFAN the last couple days. I don't know if anyone has a way to find additional information on it.

    Trades?

Are we still able to make trades through the offseason and before keepers are due? Do those just have to go through Juan, or will the trade tool be available on the Roadkill site?
  18. No. Z is the best player in that deal by far. ??? Z is great and all. I'm definitely one of his biggest fans, but how can you make that statement? ARod is one of the top 3 or so players in the game. If Zambrano is better than Arod...it certainly isn't "by far". Top 3? Come on! He's good, but let's put this in perspective. He's the Yankees #8 hitter..........................and the fans don't like him. He's not valued like he once was. This isn't the ARod that's FA eligible for the first time in Seattle. He's still a great player, but I would be very suprised if the Yanks get anything back in return that equals what they gave up to get him. Um...wow. I dont care that the fans don't like him. I don't care that Torre was dumb and decided to bat Arod 8th. ARod is a top player. Maybe top 3 is a little bit of a stretch, but not much. I can't think of too many more players I'd rather have than him. A .900 OPS is a down year for him. If he can still play SS (which I believe he can) he's easily a top 5 player. Anyways, my point was saying that someone who plays once every five days (although very good, young, and relatively cheap for now) is "by far" better than one of the greatest players of our time, is a bit much. I'm not saying I would do that deal (Arod/Hughes for Zambrano/Dempster) but I would have to think twice about it. To dismiss ARod's situation in NY is crazy to me. Torre didn't put ARod in the 8 hole because he was tearing the cover off the ball! He did it because he'd been struggling and wasn't driving in runs. Perception is a beautiful thing. NY fans know ARod is talented, but he "seems" to never produce in the clutch. I have many friends that are Yanks fans that say ARod isn't a top 5 player on the Yanks team. While I don't think that's correct, I'm not going to ignore the perception when making trade offers.
  19. The yankees are the last team on the planet right now that wants pitching prospecs. if they aren't ML ready blue chippers/ or all-star/former all start starters than it probably wont happen They can just sign Zito, Schmidt, etc. Plus the prospects would probably just be traded again for another SP/3B, and the cleared payroll would help mitigate the expenditure for signed SP's. Hendry can't give them what they need, but he can help give them the means to get it from somewhere else. Jim can't give them a stud 3B, and he can't give them a top of the rotation SP (at least not without crippling the rotation). If he wants ARod, the only thing he can do is offer our best prospects and take some of George's payroll. If you're right and that is indeed the case.................. I'll pass. IMHO, I think ML ready pitching is something the Yankees need desperately. The Cubs has some depth with Guzman, Hill, and Marshall. Pie to the Yankees doesn't make sense. Jones doesn't make sense either. Eyre does. Dempster does. I'd even do Dempster, Guzman, and Marshall for ARod. If the Yanks wouldn't do it............... sign Soriano, the Cubs will pay less and Soriano is younger.

  21. I'm reading some now too where fans want Zambrano AND Ramirez, or another guy who wants Zambrano and Barrett... as backup catcher. Its bad enough they Yanks want an All-Star lineup, but they want a guy who just came off a year where he put up All Star numbers to be ON THE BENCH. A guy posted this rotation: Wang Zambrano Zito Hughes (?) Matsuzaka I'm not sure what happened to the $33M they owe Johnson ,Pavano, Wright, but I'm thinking they might be the delusional ones. The funny thing is that they list Wang as the #1 in that rotation!!!!!!
  22. I don't think the Cubs would even have to take Pavano. Seriously, who takes bad contracts from the Yankees? And if ARod's contract doesn't help free space........................ I wouldn't call it so much taking on a bad contract as much as the yankees "ridding" themselves of that 2004 offseason. And I really think Pavano could have a good year in 07 for anyone but new york. Maybe so, but if the Cubs were to take on Pavano..........the Yanks would need to take on part of the contract. Or what they get in return would be alot less.
