  1. I agree with this statement! I have no problem trading Maddux for any young talent. An All-Star 3B (albeit not this year), one of the best offensive C in the NL, and a proven closer (have no problem trading him) for two highly touted [bold]prospects[/bold]! No thanks! I feel like this is overvaluing the prospect while at the same time unvaluing vets. The Angels are trying to trade Kennedy in order to use Kendrick. In another "rumor" McPherson and Mathis are on the block for Abreau. I like all three prospects, but I don't know why the Cubs need to trade Lee? If the Cubs are going young........ why trade Pie? I'm not against trading Prior for the right deal................ Pelfrey or Milledge might be one of those players. I've also read the same on the Willis trade. I'd love to get Quentin........... I don't know that Arizona would trade him unless they were in a similar situation above like the Mets. Would Pierre put their team over the top? I go back and forth w/ Jones, but I believe he has some value and could help the Cubs if used correctly. Neifi I view the same way. He is overvalued by Dusty and that creates a problem. Used correctly he could be effective. If all of the moves above were done............. why would you want any Free Agents? I like your idea of trading for young talent, but I think it has to be mixed with solid vets. You can make a trade for someone like Pelfrey, lose Prior's money and use the money saved in FA to fill a void and that helps the team. I guess I don't see where fielding a great minor league team w/ high ceilings helps guarantee a better record, or outcome for the Cubs.
  2. Zambrano and Pettite come through w/ Ws and QS each. Buehrle gets scorched to help as well. It should be a close score by the end of the night. Danger Bees are trying to shock Sanitizers! AND the Trotskys lead the Quakers as of right now. It could be huge if both those scores hold and I manage to comeback against Alamo.
  3. Alamo sticking it to me w/ a 40 pt lead. Lackey's 33 pt start helps. My bats are dead, though. I'm hoping I can get back in it today and tomorrow.
  4. Or add it's totals to next week! That would be interesting.

    Week 14

Pedro goes to the DL. He's replaced in the line-up w/ Matt Morris.
  10. Mike Sirotka. He had some good years with the White Sox, then was traded to Toronto. He immediately came up with shoulder problems, and Toronto asked for compensation or to void the trade (I don't remember which), claiming that he was damaged goods at the time of the trade. I think they lost that grievance. He signed a minor league deal with the Cubs, and I believe may have pitched some at Iowa, but he never pitched for the Cubs at the major league level. Unlike Miller, I think he was signed to a minor league contract.Yeah, he never got an MLB deal. The reason Toronto lost the grievence is b/c the exam for the trade to go thru he passed. An exam a month later found the tear, therefore, MLB said the trade stands. Sirotka was the main piece in the David Wells trade to the White Sox. I remember the debate well.
  11. I was listening to a radio station out of Florida today. They were talking about how the Yankee's were looking to trade for Abreau as "The Phillies basically want to get rid of his salary and will take about anything for him." I find it hard to believe this is entirely true. I'm sure the Phils want something for him. Abreau would certainly be an upgrade, but what are the Phils needs and an even better questions is............... how desperate are they to get rid of his salary?
  12. That's...optimistic? While I definitely agree that the post you were replying to was suggesting a deal that absurdly overpaid, your deal is sort of, well, ridiculous. I know the scuttlebutt is that the fans and maybe the organization up there are pissed at/tired of him, but they're nowhere near hating him enough to essentially dump one of the greatest hitters in the game's history for what you're talking about. Maybe it's not enough. I'm just saying you give what the Yankee's what they need which is OF help and pitching. Maybe you add Eyre, or Williamson. Maybe you add Walker. But you don't trade the farm and your starting OF for one guy. Right. Which is why I would trade Jacque, Aramis, Wood and a reliever for him with the idea he'd still play 3rd in Chicago. Plug Pagan/Mabry/Nevin into RF for the rest of the year with the idea (hopefully) that the team would be going after someone like Abreu for next year. I would be open to trading Jacque, Wood, Eyre, Williamson, and a long list of others. I wouldn't trade Aramis though. In reality, I'd probably trade something closer to: Jones, Williamson, Walker, and Eyre for ARod or I'd be willing to do Jones, Dempster, and Walker for ARod. Point is, I wouldn't just throw Aramis in. I'd like to see a left side of ARam and ARod while sliding Cedeno to 2B. That would be an awesome IF. 1B: Lee 2B: Cedeno SS: ARod 3B: ARam C: Barrett

  14. Jeez! Should we pony up anyone else? The Cubs could have ARod w/o giving up ARAM. I still say Pierre, Dempster, and Nevin.[/b]
  15. In 1992 the Cubs traded Danny Jackson to the Pirates for the great Steve Buechele.
  16. Plenty of high quality baseball players have been acquired by trading away relievers. But it doesn't just have to be a 1 man deal. Throw him in with Walker, Jones or Pierre and the deal could be sweetened. Jon Garland/Matt Karchner leaps to mind. Who did the Cubs trade to Pitt for that right handed middle relief pitcher in 2003? I can't remember his name....either I suppose. It wasn't Pitt and I don't think it was '03, but are you talking David Weathers? No, Weathers was closing for Milwaukee. The Cubs traded Ruben Quevedo and Pete Zoccolillo for Weathers and Roberto Miniel.
  17. I don't follow the Rays very closely - how bad are his shoulders? Is it a "one-time it'll be better next year" thing or a chronic problem? Quoted from ESPN: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=7245
  18. He'd be nice to have. What do we give up?

    Week 14

I believe it would go head-to-head which would give Sanitizers the tie-break. As far as I know we would both make the playoffs though. Top 3 teams in each division get in, if I remember correctly.

    Week 14

I was hoping to hang close w/ Quaker's after today and it looks as if I'll actually have a good lead even though I had one less start today.
  21. I'd love to get Either, but I don't know that the Dodger's would trade him. They traded Milton Bradley straight up for him if I recall correctly. While Bradley isn't ManRam, he is still ML talent traded straight up for minor league talent. I think the Dodger's are pretty high on him. I was also under the impression that Maddux did have a NTC? And that Hendry has a gentleman's agreement not to trade him? I may not have this correct though. One last thing, if the Cubs trade for any YOUNG arms............... Dusty must be gone first.
  22. This just in: Glendon Rusch Rocks!
  23. My apologies if this hasn't been brought up yet. If I were the Cubs I would keep ARam and trade arms. The Yankees need an OF, hitters and arms. Not a 3B. I'd trade: Pierre, Nevin, and Dempster. As bad as the Yankee starters are.............the bullpen is horrid!
