  1. Unless the Astros start wearing Cardinal jerseys, they won't be above .500. And as soon as Sheets goes down, we just have to pray that the Cardinals eventually realize how horrible of a team they are.
  2. I can't wait until Soriano busts out with a 3 HR game. This guy probably wouldn't post for a few weeks. Of course, in Soriano's 4th AB, he could strikeout and CubsGM will run to his computer and post, "OMG SORIANO SUCKS HE HAS NO PATIENTCE LOLZ!" You say this as if he's unfairly criticizing Soriano. He's been awful all season so far. Complaining is more than justified. He basically had 2 bad weeks, was injured for 2 weeks, had a couple bad games, and now is doing decent. He's been hitting the ball hard nearly every AB the past few games. He's not worth 18m, but with his track record, I don't think a couple bad weeks is worth flipping out over (not that you are, but apparently CubsGM is) It's May 7th. His season-to-date numbers are atrocious. His month-to-date numbers are bad. It's hard to justify picking on a guy who complains about those facts. I'm just giving him a little extra cushion since has already been on the DL and has been hitting the ball pretty good the past few games. The way I see it, he struggled for a couple weeks and then struggled for a couple games when he came back from the DL. If his numbers haven't improved in a couple weeks then I'd say its completely justified. Right now, I think its just sort of justified.

  4. Did you ever think that maybe Dusty knows something we don't, since ya know, he's actually around the guy. Maybe he knows that it actually makes Volquez's arm healthier to throw 120 pitches in a blowout. Ever think of that? good point. he obviously knew what he was doing with wood and prior. they've been healthy as could be since 2003. I think he was being sarcastic, but forgot the green font. I hope. I refuse to use green font. Takes the fun out of it.

  6. I hope Dusty realizes that he needs to have Volquez finish the game.
  7. Quit being so good Marshall. Lets take out time here.
  8. Can't have three lefties in the rotation, dude. Maybe they'll try to fix Hill by making him throw with his right hand and it will turn out that he's even better as a righty.
  9. Hopefully they're stretching Marshall out to take Lieber's spot, then Hill will take Marquis spot when he comes back.
  10. Who wants to bet that Fontenot stays in the game to replace Cedeno?
  11. I yelled to him before the game yesterday and he turned really quick to see where it came from and just seemed really excited to have fans cheering him on. He seems like a good guy and I'm pretty excited to see what he can do if he gets a shot.
  12. If Soriano misplays one with Carlos on the mound, he may get Barrett-ed. I've seen a couple misplays with Zambrano on the mound this year, and it looks like his new tactic is to laugh. He laughs, thinking about the pain he is going to inflict on that person later.
  13. Not really. We aren't getting any calls or any breaks. We aren't scoring many runs either, in most games. The offense looks good because we explode in some games, but then like yesterday, it's struggle struggle struggle. I don't think they struggled at all yesterday. They were smoking the ball left and right, but caught some tough breaks. I couldn't tell if Griffey's catch would have been a homerun, but it was hit really good even if not, Ward absolutely crushed the ball, Pie barely missed a homerun, Fukudome smoked the ball right at Griffey with a couple runners on at one point. Add in their patience and it was a pretty good hitting night, it was just some tough breaks and Fontenot.
  14. the cubs have been getting more people on base than their opponents. the reds basically did nothing on offense all night except for a couple of innings when they were helped by cubs' errors. the cubs have been leaving a lot of guys on base lately. plus one of the best hitters on the team has been out of the lineup. the cubs will be fine. it's just a rough patch with poor luck, similar to the rough start to the year last year, but the cubs have more of a cushion after winning a lot in april. I'm not going to lose it yet, but we're going to be down 8.5 if this keeps up. You know STL is going to win tonight's game. they will? did i miss the part where the cardinals were a great team and not an average one? They're actually a quite bad one, but they've played far above their heads before. With those minions I won't believe they're not a threat until they prove it. You beat me to it. The Cardinals aren't even near an average team. They're terrible. Its insane that they're doing what they're doing. Also, Fontenot is dead to me. He ruined the most exciting game I've ever been to.
  15. True story: I was in Cincinnati for the game tonight. A few hours before the game, me and some friends were downtown and we saw Lou and Sinatro out and about doing some shopping. One of my friends yelled to Lou and he turned and waved. As he was walking away I said, "Start Cedeno". If he would have just freaking listened to me, Fontenot wouldn't have cost us 4 runs tonight and we would have freaking won. Man, that was a heartbreaking game. It had some awesome moments though. Pie's catch was insane and both Dunn and Soto's hrs were absolutely crushed.
  16. While we're at it, Cedeno's OPS is now nearly .300 higher than Theriot. Theriot: .793 Cedeno: 1.059 So we have 2 younger players who have been hitting better than their competition, are better fielders, better speed, more potential, but they're sitting the bench for older players. I'm failing to see any sort of logic.
  17. What, in major league play, shows you that Felix Pie is a better hitter than Reed Johnson? You can show me all the projections in the world from baseballprospectus that tells you that, but that doesn't mean jack. Felix Pie has been a disappointment this year. He strikes out at an high rate, and doesn't walk. If that doesn't scream Corey Patterson to Cubs fans, nothing will. Felix has looked overmatched this year many times. This year OPS vs. right handers: .603 .661 Guess which one is Felix and which on is Johnson. Don't want to talk about Pie's .224 batting average? Or his horrible .291 obp? If his OPS is better against right handers, if he's younger, better fielder, more potential, better speed, has been doing much better the past couple weeks...Then I think he should start at least against RH.

  19. Its not so much the sending Hill down that bothers me. Its the trying to change stuff with a pitcher who was in the top 30-40 pitchers in all of baseball last year. Just leave him alone and let him pitch, but Lou has been pretty annoyed with Rich ever since he got the job, and its mind boggling. As for leaving Soriano in with the big lead today, I think the only other option would have been Ward. Murton can only PH just like Marshall can only face lefties. Exactly. I'm mad that Lou forced him to the point where sending him down is the only option. I wouldn't bunch Lou with Dusty quite yet. If he continues his quest to ruin Hill, Marmol, Pie, Cedeno, Marshall, then maybe. The way Dusty completely destroyed such a promising group of players was epic. Lou still has time to catch up, though. Hopefully he goes back to being decent like he was last year.
  20. Its going to be awesome watching Gallagher rot away on the bench.
  21. Yost and Lou both seem determined to ruin their #2 pitchers. It will be exciting to see who wins the race to throw away the division.
  22. Lou in the press conference: Lately...yeah, kinda.
