  1. Grudzielanek has a club option next year. My guess, and this is pure speculation, is that the Royals will pick it up. Grudzielanek is one hell of a player. A perfect 2 hitter on a playoff team. Puts the ball in play, dosent strike out much, and moves the runner over. grudzielanek is not very good and isn't getting any younger. this notion that he's some kind of small-ball god isn't accurate either. he had 2 sacrifices last year for the cardinals in 563 PA's. he's become a simple slap hitter that doesn't get on base well and would consider himself successful if he hits the ball out of the infield. simply because he has a stubble-beard, short arms and legs, no neck and appears to be a "gritty little ballplayer" that conventional minds would value, doesn't mean that anyoner values him anymore. he's not good. Grudzielanek is a good baseball player. Solid with the glove, he will have is BA around .290 each year, his OBP will be around .330. He puts the ball in play. He wont be that 10hr guy, but thats not what kind of player he is. He was a huge factor for the 03 Cubs. Not a vocal guy, but he leads by example.
  2. With Lackey, Santana, Escobar, and Weaver, I think they have a pretty solid rotation still. They could pick up a guy on waivers, but I think they will let Joe Saunders take Colon's spot.
  3. John Lackey had a bad game.
  4. That might be enough to get Hollandsworth back.
  5. Im pretty sure the Braves would ask for Prior in return for Andrew Jones. If that is the case, would you guys still do it? I would.
  6. Hearing Santo near end cracks me up.
  7. Izturis is still learning the infield. Give him time.
  8. No. You are sure of that? See my point is all of this is arbitrary! You can't assume for a fact that Baker was the reason for these guys breaking down? Sure I agree 140 pitches in a inning is just way too much, but Wood mechanics being flawed from that start can't be ignored. I don't think it is arbitrary at all. I think it shows a direct correlation between how they were overused in 2003 and the problems suffered since. In 2003 Prior and Wood combined for 32 wins, since then they have 30. What other LOGICAL explanation is there? Haven't most of Prior injuries been fluke injuries? Even when he has been healthy, he has not been the same pitcher that he was in 2003. I believe this may be partially due to his "freak" injuries, but it hasn't helped that Dusty continued to abuse him through those same injuries. Prior's 05 season seems to go under the radar. Made 27 starts. Would of made over 30, if it wasnt for the line drive off the elbow. Won 11 games, had a 3.67 era. He had I want to say 3 bad starts last year, that kept his era near 4, otherwise it was near 2.90. Pitched 166 innings. Would of been more if he didnt miss that month. Prior gave up less hits than innings pitched, and struckout 188 Batters.

  10. Will Ohman has alot of value for a playoff team. Every playoff team would love to have Ohman, for the reason he can get that tough left-handed hitter out.
  11. Do you think that 28 year old Chone Figgins would be happy about coming to Chicago with Pie in the wings at CF and Aram at 3b(assuming all the contract stuff is taken care of)? The Cubs, should be at least thinking of dealing Pie for a impact bat, or starter. He is still only a "prospect". So you agree with Dusty in the belief that this team needs major leaguers/vets? No, but Pie is not guranteed to pan out in the big leagues. If a deal would come across where Pie and someone else was packaged for a proven starter, or impact bat then I would strongly consider it.

  13. Not really, there are only a few teams that would be able to claim him before us. (KC, Pittsburgh, and whoever else happens to be crappier than us). That's if I understand it right, which isn't a sure thing. Yeah your right. I remember in 04 when the Cubs had a deal in place for Jose Mesa, and the Giants blocked it. They had something like, 10 games to make a deal.
  14. Chone Figgins. If the Angels make him available, then Hendry should go after him.
  15. IF a deal for Jones would happen, I think it would happen in the off-season. It would be extremely hard trying to get Andrew Jones to pass through waivers.
  16. You've questioned others' opinions in this thread itself. That's how it works on message boards, as long as no one makes it personal. Yeah I realize how stupid my post was looking back on it. I apologize for that. The thing that ticked me off, was that he basically laughed in my face, because he thought my opinion didnt matter at all. If you using batting average instead of OBP as an argument for Pierre over Player X makes someone laugh, it makes someone laugh. It made me laugh too. I know I should of at least gave more info than BA as a reason why Pierre is a better player than Roberts. Sorry guys. *edit* but there is no need for someone to laugh at someone's opinion.

  18. What? The guy laughed in my face because he thought I was totally wrong. How would you handle a situation like that? I respect everyone's opinion. I was raised different obviously, and for someone to laugh in my face because he thinks my opinion dosent matter is messed up.
  19. Good god, man! How hard is it? If you want your protoypical "leadoff" hitters, and you're going to narrow it down to speedy guys, then your #1 priority is to get a guy that gets on base. And guess what? Roberts gets on base more. batting average with get you laughed off this board anyway, but it'll especially get you laughed off this board when YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT FREAKING LEADOFF HITTERS. in fact, BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA Is it wrong to have a different opinion?? Of course it is. What, did you think this forum was for debate? But seriously, OBP is a much more important stat for a leadoff hitter than average. Especially for the guy who hardly ever bats with anyone on base, a walk is just as good as a single. That said, I don't know if I believe that Roberts will be any good next year. He is going to be 35, whereas Pierre will still be under 30. I think my preference would depend on the contract given out. If the team could do much with the money saved by ging after Roberts, then by all means, do it. I was just giving some info on the two players. Then I was attacked for having a different opinion. Seriously man that is messed up. No you weren't. You were "attacked" for using a horrible stat to judge a hitter. Come one. The guy attacked me because I had a different opinion. No one should question someone's opinion. You can, but dont make it public. Just in real life, if I seen that guy and he laughed at my opinion, I dont think I would be as nice as im trying to be towards him.

I have been here long enough to realize, the majority of people on this site all have the same opinion.
  22. I don't know, but that's what trades are for. It shouldn't be hard to find a lead-off guy with a .330 OBP who is cheaper than Pierre. If Pierre had more of a recent history of a .350+ OBP, I'd be on board with re-signing him. Leadoff hitters are hard to find. You cant just go out and make a trade for one. Not many teams will deal their leadoff hitter. Matt Murton would be just fine as a leadoff hitter if Pierre didn't come back. Yes, he actually would. I would just then have 2 questions: 1) How does Matt feel about batting leadoff? That's something that we can't really know-some hitters are just not cut out for batting leadoff. From our vantage point, it would be hard to tell if Murton is one of them or if he is comfortable in that role. 2)Who do we sign to play center? I'm not sure what options there are that could be had, or how much it would take. Dave Roberts would be cost efficient until Pie is ready. Roberts is getting old. I don't know how much longer he'll keep up the improvement that he's shown in the last two years, considering his age. How much does he stand to make? Hopefully it would just be for next near and lead to a transition into Pie at CF. I believe as of right now that Roberts makes about 2.3mil for this year compared to Pierre's 6 million. Im willing to deal Pie for a impact bat, or a solid SP. He is just a prospect. No gurantee he will be a solid player.

Roberts: .302/.379/.423/.802, 31/35 in SBs Pierre: .281/.326/.380/.706, 38/50 in SBs Roberts has a career .263 average Pierre has a career .305 average
