  1. Izturis is a 8 hitter in a good lineup. The Cubs dont have a good lineup, so they have to put Iztruis in the 2 hole. If Hendry adds some bats in the off-season, then Izturis will be moved to the 8 hole. For now he will be in the 2 hole.
  2. Defense saves runs, saves runners from getting on base, and it also helps the pitcher out.
  3. you couldn't be more incorrect. I used the word "similar". Which means, they have have SOME things in common. Speed, defense, and possibly the same kind of average. They both will strikeout alot also.
  4. Cubs already have a player similar to Cruz Jr, Angel Pagan.
  5. The Lee or Choi deal was the best move Hendry has made.
  6. Too many variables to assume. 1)The Cubs will be interested in Tejada after acq's Izturis for SS. 2)Balt. will field offers for Tejada. 3)No other team will be interested in Tejada. 4)The Cubs will outbid any team for Tejada. 5)The Cubs will have more to offer than any other team interested in him. 6)The Cubs have given up on Cedeno. Can Tejada play 2B? I'm sure that would not be his preference, but in any Tejada/Izturis middle IF, Cesar should be the one playing SS. Tools-wise, he can definitely play 2B, everything is there for him to do well there. Media reports had him not wanting him to shift to 3B had he been traded to the Dodgers. I also forgot to mention other factors that might lead to Tejada staying in Balt. and that is if higher up parties within their organization want him to stay in Balt. that'll make trade impossible for him. Your probably right. The owner has blocked alot of trades that the Gm wanted to make for Tejeda.
  7. Possibly. Depending on Washington's and Minnesota's 2007 payroll situations though, I don't think we can rule out Hendry making possible trades for Jose Vidro or Luis Castillo. Hendry has liked Vidro in the past, and if he is available you know Derrek and Juan will actively campaign for Castillo. NOT Castillo. He is getitng older, and speed is a major part of his game. You cannot count on Vidro to play a whole season. He is never healthy. Tejeda is the guy. A Package of Prior, Pie, Cedeno and another arm should get Tejeda.
  8. Im pretty sure Hendry is not going to have a Izturis/Cedeno middle infield next year. He will go out and get a player like Tejeda to play SS. Tejeda/Izturis is a middle infield he would like.
  9. This is off the subject, but I wish the Cubs would of traded for Orlando Cabrera instead of Nomar. Would you want a guy who plays everyday? Or a guy who plays everyother day? Im not second guessing the Nomar deal either. Orlando was the guy I wanted to play SS for the Cubs.
  10. Izturis is a 8 hitter in a lineup. The cubs can win a world series with Cesar at ss.
  11. Defense is very important. To think that its not is crazy. Boston in 04 traded a horrible fielder in Nomar. They made it public they wanted to improve their defense. If they didnt acquire Cabrera, they wouldnt of won the world series in my opinion.
  12. like I alluded to above, alot of times the opposing teams have a better travel schedule than the Cubs. furthermore, most of the time the opposing team has not been out in 90 degree heat playing baseball 3-5 days in the previous week. Nice excuse. Go out and play the game.
  13. Going back to the Dodger deal. There is no gurantee Maddux would return next year. Its better to get something, rather than nothing in return. The same can be said about the Walker deal. Im pretty sure he wasnt coming back next year. Hendry spent 18 months it seemed like, trying to deal Walker. If Izturis can return to his 04 form, then this deal was a wise one by Hendry.
  14. I heard an excuse about how the clubhouse is way too small, and that is why they are not winning ball games. It didnt effect the 03 team, or the 84 team. Bottom line, get better players that can perform day in day out.
  15. There are no facts to support that claim. Just because Hendry once told Kaplan that other teams made offers, it doesn't make it true. Kaplan is around the field everyday. He doesnt only talk to Hendry. The guy isnt that single minded. Kaplan, complains about alot of Hendry's moves. He was arguing the Neifi deal, because he had some sources that told him that other clubs were offering Neifi more money.
  16. Lets get 1 thing staright here. Im not supporting the Neifi deal. Im just saying, he was offered more money from other clubs, than what the Cubs offered him.
  17. what was his excuse in Boston, Cincinnati, Colorado and Minnesota? I dont know, because I didnt follow his career when he was with those teams. Walker is not as valuable as many people here think. The guy cant field a ball for his life. He has no range at all. The only thing he would be good for, is a bat off the bench. Walker even said during that sunday night game against the Mets " I could give a thousand excuses, but nobody wants to hear them".
  18. I doubt you heard that. Even if somebody offered more (doubtful since Jim locked him up right away) that doesn't mean he's not overpaid. A terrible SS doesn't deserve $5m guaranteed. To be honest with you, I have heard it numerous times from David Kaplan.
  19. Walker is full of excuses. Dont other teams have to play these day games when they come to wrigley? This probably is the most pathetic excuse I have heard about the Cubs not winning.
  20. But as I stated earlier in this thread (in response to you) was that it goes beyond those two. He's now overpaid for Howry + Eyre + Neifi + Rusch + Izturis to the tune of over $10 million (and that doesn't even include J. Jones). It adds up and it will likely prohibit him from going out and signing both a stud LFer and a front line SP (both of which will be needed). I heard on the radio a couple of times. Hendry did not overpay for Neifi. Actually there were teams offering him more money than the cubs offered him. Howry and Eyre are valuable set-up men. Rusch deal was a joke, but the Jones deal seems to work out fine as of now. Iztruis is a valuable player for a team. He brings a excellent glove to a demanding SS position. If he can return to his 04 numbers, then I think the Cubs got a steal in the Maddux trade.
  21. You cannot be a GM if you dont take risk. Yeah I agree, he has not done enough since that Nomar deal. Btw, Cabrera should of been the cubs SS. To question the Eyre and Howry deal because he over paid a couple of million to me is captian insano insane. Wouldnt the Yankees rather overpay for Howry or Eyre instead of signing Farnsworth? I dont have a problem with Hendry overpaying for these 2 guys.
  22. Im loving this. Your telling me you wouldnt sign Howry or Eyre? I think he's just upset about the 3 year deals they got. Hendry didn't get the memo the first time he signed 2 middle relievers to 3 year deals, so he goes out and does it again last offseason. Plus, name me a good move he has done since the Nomar trade...I wish you good luck as he has done nothing productive over the last 2 seasons to make this team a contender for a division title. Howry and Eyre were solid moves. What team wouldnt want them in their bullpen? Hendry tried the entire off-season in 05 trying to deal Sosa. That is one reason he couldnt make a deal.
  23. Im loving this. Your telling me you wouldnt sign Howry or Eyre? For the reason they have had arm injuries in the past? Would you have signed Remlinger to a three year deal with his shoulder injury? No I wouldnt. But I would offer him a 1yr deal with a option for the next. That is one move I wish Hendry would of never done.
  24. Im loving this. Your telling me you wouldnt sign Howry or Eyre? For the reason they have had arm injuries in the past?
  25. Remlinger had a shoulder injury when he signed with the Cubs. Hawkins pitched in a dome stadium. Much different pitching in doors than it is out doors. So why was it acceptable to give those guys 3 year deals?? Remlinger and Hawkins were the top set-up men in the FA market. In 02 Remlinger had 1 hell of a year, and in 03 Hawkins also had one hell of a year. That is why they got their 3 year deals.
