  1. He has been horrible at 3B for the Padres. I wonder what his excuse is for that?
  2. He seems like he has control over the kids in Florida. Im not sure if he could have the same kind of control over a veteran type team.
  3. Im going to go out on a limb and say, the Twins will win the world series if Liriano comes back, and pitches the way he did before he went on the DL.
  4. Jeff Weaver is arguably one of the worst starters in the entire majors right now. Jeff Weaver will also eat up innings, win 12-14 games a year, and have a era around 4.
  5. I would like to see Coomer's pitching staff. Well here is mine: Zambrano Zito Lackey Weaver Marshall/Hill/Marmol
  6. if only it were. freel will be valued more for his ability to slide around on the field than his ability to not make outs. Unless he is falling into the Torii Hunter category, I dont think he will cost you a arm and a leg, due to him being on "web gems". Cedeno, Marshall, Jones, and cash for Freel is insane. If I were the Reds, and I was offered a deal like that, I would accept it in a heat beat.
  7. That was a nice catch by Reid.
  8. Davis dropped 10-15lb in the off-season. Lets see if that will make a difference. :)
  9. Hendry made an offer to Beltran. Like another poster said, there was no way the Cubs would of out-bid the Mets, or the Yankees for Beltran. So, because of Pierre's arm, you wont re-sign him? All he need's to do is throw the ball to the cut-off man.
  10. Bradley is coming off major knee surgery. I dont think you can count on him being the #2 receiver. Berrian, is probably going to be that #2 receiver, with Davis being the slot receiver. Muhammad, will continue to drop passes as the Bears #1 receiver.
  11. If Baker goes to Seattle, the chances of Schmidt signing with Seattle are even higher.
  12. Pierre is going to get a multi-year contract offer from someone. I hope it isn't the Cubs. If he accepts arby and plays here one more year, then I'm fine with him sticking around. But I really don't want him signed to a multi-season deal. Yep! I can't see Hendry signing Pierre to a multi-year deal knowing Pie is getting very close... I disagree, I can readily see Hendry being doped by Pierre' recent success and his "hard working" approach into signing him to a multi-year deal. Maybe no Baker next season will keep Pierre from re-signing but, I believe Hendry' going to offer a multi-year deal, see Rusch and Perez. Hendry is a huge Juan Pierre fan. I could see him signing Pierre to a 2yr extension. I also could see Hendry trading for Vernon Wells. Specially since Tim Wilken has spent some years in the Toronto organization. I believe Wilken drafted Vernon Wells also. The hiring of Tim Wilken as the Cubs Amateur and Professional scout, has been one of the smartest moves they have made in a long time.
  13. So... Nobody should ever play a rookie because they don't have any major league AB's. And they can't get any major league AB's because nobody should ever play them. Got it. When did I say that no team should play a rookie? It would be easier to judge Pie with some at-bats in the big leagues. Big leagues compared to AAA, well, there is no comparison.
  14. Pie would benefit with another 1/2 season in AAA. I could see him being a call-up after the all-star game next year, and making a huge impact on the Cubs playoff hopes. Miguel Cabrera, made a huge impact on the Marlins winning the World Series in 03.
  15. PIERRE. Pie has NO major league experience. Untill he gets some AB's in the big leagues, then you can judge him.
  16. Your giving up way too much for Freel. What happened to Howry? Is he included in the Freel trade also? That starting rotation is very injury prone. Trading for Brady Clark would make no sense. You would be giving up one of your best pitching prospects for him. Why not just re-sign Pierre? He brings more to the table than Brady Clark will. 1. no way i'm giving up too much for freel. freel is going to be expensive now given his frequent spots on web gems, cincinnati is going to want a starter and an OF who can step right in and be productive. i'm throwing cedeno in because they might want a SS, too, and i'm of no mind to let the exclusion of cedeno be a dealbreaker in a trade for freel. cedeno is of no use to us, let another team think he might be of use to them. 2. howry was initially included in a different trade, and i forgot to re-add him to the bullpen, so i fixed it. sorry. 3. injury prone? are you kidding me? a. zambrano hasn't made less than 30 starts in a full season in his entire career. b. schmidt will have averaged over 30 starts per year over the last five years after finsihing this season. c. mussina hasn't made less than 24 starts in a single season in the last 14 seasons. he's also made 30 or more starts 10 times in those 14 years, and might get to 30 again this season. d. hill is not injury prone as far as i can tell. e. prior is injury prone, but as a back of the rotation starter, he' expendable and will have less pressure to perform. he's still also exteremely talented and worth the trouble. this would be our most durable rotation in years. i don't know what you've been watching, but it's certainly not the actual numbers. 7. brady clark is more productive than juan pierre. he'll also be cheaper next season because all anyone sees with pierre is speed, it's definitely not OBP. the team i've assembled is fueled by OBP. with clark and freel hitting in front of lee, ramirez, edmonds, and barrett, there will be plenty of RBIs to go around. murton would be allowed to grow, and izturis's offense probably wouldn't hurt us very badly, with his defense helping us immensely. i've devised a way that the cubs can keep izturis, you should be excited. i haven't even mentioned the bullpen, yet. the bullpen would be lights out, the manager could bring hill along slowly and coddle prior's pitch counts. this team would score a lot of runs, the starters would throw a lot of innings, and the bullpen would hold a lot of leads. what's not to like? I just found that bolded part to be a joke.
  17. But he did have those months. In seven seasons, Pierre has had TWO seasons in which he posted a better than 370 OBP. He's not likely to do that again. This year his OBP is 330. It was 326 last season. His career OBP is 351. A few hot months does not erase his entire career. If you want a lead-off hitter with a better than 350 OBP, you shouldn't look to Pierre. He's not likely to best that mark. There really isnt anybody else out there. Who would you suggest?
  18. If? If Hendry would have signed Vlad, Tejada... Your bringing up a totally different subject.
  19. Pierre has had a OBP over .370 the past couple of months. If he didnt have such a terrible start to the year, he would be batting over .300, and would have a OBP near .370.
  20. Why? Why? Why? Fun fact: The Cubs offense scored more runs before they acquired Lofton than after. Giles, yes. Pierre, emphatic no. If your batting Giles in the leadoff spot, you lacking a true leadoff hitter. Giles is better suited for the #2 spot. You can take advantage of his hitting skills in the #2 spot in the order. Leadoff hitter gets on, Giles bunts him over. Another example is, leadoff hitter gets on, you can hit and run with Giles. Giles leading off, is like having Jason Kendall leading off. Both are excellent #2 hitters. Your lineup would be 100% better, when they are in the #2 spot in the order. Your leadoff hitter should be a guy with atleast a .370 OBP, you would prefer to have him bat left-handed, a guy who will make contact, and a guy who can steal a base.
  21. First, he's been hitting .249 in the leadoff spot, not "under .230." But who cares about batting average? He's got a .341 OBP when htting leadoff this year, which is just .10 lower than his overall OBP this season. He's only hit second in the order in 14 games this season. 14 games isn't enough to draw any meaningful conclusions from his stats. Did you know that Neifi Perez had a .263 OBP in the 1 spot but a .375 OBP in the 8 spot last year? Jose Macias had a .270 OBP hitting first, but also had a .375 OBP hitting eighth. Matt Murton had just a .310 OBP hitting #7, but a .615 OBP hitting #8. Nomar had a .222 OBP hitting #3, but he had a .386 OBP hitting #5. Aramis was just at .231 hitting #3, but he was at .383 hitting #5. Burnitz had a .361 OBP when hitting cleanup, but just a .238 OBP when hitting #7. Barrett had a .431 OBP when hitting 5th, but a .241 OBP when hitting 7th. Stats based on position in the batting order are next to worthless if not completely worthless. If you bat Giles in the leadoff spot, that means you have a weakness one your team. He is a 2 hitter, not a 1 hitter. On a good team, Giles is your #2 hitter. When the Cubs traded for Lofton, their team was much more better. Now they could bat Grudzielanek in the 2 hole where he excelled. Pierre and Giles at the top of the order could be a huge asset for the Cubs in 07.
  22. Schmidt, has been abused by Busty Faker, and Felipe Alou. SIGN HIM UP!!!
  23. Your going to be very upset when Schmdit lands on the DL in the first month with shoulder problems. Zito is the best pitcher on the FA list.
