  1. Thank you. Next year lets send them our minor leaguers. Leave the players we really need alone. They need their spring training----in MARCH, not April when the games count. I just HOPE this is the problem....that would mean that the real Z will/should show up in the next 2 weeks or so. My fear is that it's not about a delay to their spring, my concern all along was that guys would be overthrowing in early March, when they're usually cruising along. The only WBC pitcher of consequence with a decent start has been Willis, who sucked, got rocked and left early every game. The guys who threw meaningful innings are off to bad starts or injured, or maybe both.
  2. Maybe I've grown immune to the issue. Or maybe I've just come to grips with what a lost cause sportscenter and baseball tonight have become, so I ignore both. But I feel the hype this year is much less than in past years. There isn't much buzz here about this series other than a couple radio ads. The draft took up all the talk this weekend, and the Devils sweep of the Rangers took up much of the rest. The baseball buzz in this town has been mostly Mets related, and I don't feel there's much faith in the Yankees this season. Anyway, if I didn't follow baseball so religiously, I feel like I wouldn't even know this series was starting this week.
  3. I think there will be plenty of spots for them to take. First and foremost, one or both will be returning kicks. I think Manning becomes the 3rd safety, primarily backing up Harris at FS (or maybe taking his job, depending on camp). Manning Jr. is going to be the nickelback/3rd CB, and I see Hester competing with Davis as the 4th CB. Dusty slides into the tackle rotation, and with Tank out, this is a big need. Williams will be a backup right away (Bears have 2 great LB, but are questionable on the rest of the depth chart) and should play on a lot of special teams, assuming he makes the team. Anderson is similar, he could be as high as the 3rd D-end if he makes the team, as Haynes is projected into the tackle rotation, and Idonije is hardly a sure thing. My guess is Anderson and Idonije will be competing for a job. The 6th round fullback, Runnels, could actually be the only draftee to start this year. He should be a special teamer, although he could easily not even make the team. And the guard, Reed, will hopefully do enough to make the team, because I really question the depth of this offensive line.
  4. I still don't know what to think. I know how I feel, :puker: , but I'm not sure how analyze this draft fairly. I wanted to strengthen the defense in this draft. I was hoping for a LB or DB in the first round. And in generaly, I don't have a problem trading down and acquiring more picks (as long as they aren't just 5th and 6th rounders). But all they got for trading down nearly 20 spots was a 3rd rounder, and then the first guy they drafted probably would have been available later in the 2nd. The next guy doesn't have a position, the next guy is an enormous character risk, and doesn't even make up for it by being great on the field, he's a one trick pony. And what is with drafting a LB who is not only small, but lacks agility? Isn't this team all about speed and quickness? I like that they got some o line help, but a 6th round guard doesn't really stand much of a chance of helping the team. Then again, the football draft is very difficult to judge. My gut feeling is the Bears overpicked, like they did with Columbo, and this is going to be disappointing. But Angelo can find DBacks, and WRs just don't come in and help teams right away. I didn't like all the TE talk going in, so I'm not that upset they didn't get one of these guys. But I would have liked more focus on the offense, and it would have been nice to get at least one guy who can make an immediate impact, and maybe challenge for a starting spot.
  5. Dear WBC, I hate you for what you did to Zambrano. Screw off.
  6. That shouldn't come into the discussion. But they got Cairo in that deal, and I believe the right to keep Chiasson.
  7. There's no reason he can't, but there's quite a possibility he won't.
  8. Yes. How are those wings? Honestly, I haven't had any in weeks. I'm craving them. But tonight it's: http://www.gallaghersnysteakhouse.com/ followed by: http://www.montypythonsspamalot.com/
  9. First Dempster, then Williamson. I hope Hedry can make it 3 for 3 on reclamation projects with Miller. Chad Fox? Fox was beyond repair. He makes Williamson look scar free.
  10. Yay! Will they get the rest of the series in? http://www.weather.com/weather/weekend/60613?from=36hr_topnav_undeclared Would they be better off having Rusch's game rained out and made up later in the season when maybe some other guys will be back?
  11. 6 extra base hits are why they've scored today, ain't no small ball here.
  12. They really don't want to turn over the lineup do they.
  13. No. There's nothing wrong with stating your personal preference. Where you're wrong is in your claims that Neifi is better, and that Hairston hasn't made the most of his chances, while Neifi has been so much worse.
  14. The worst part is now Jones leads off next inning. The Cubs need to do what they can to turn over the lineup, which means not making outs on the bases.
  15. But was it a sac bunt or Ronny trying to get on by a bunt on his own? Gameday said strike 1 was a missed bunt. So I doubt it was for a hit on his own.
  16. That's the real doozy. Pierre's value is in stealing the base on his own. Either have him do that, or let the guy swing away. ****Please note, I'm not trying to just complain during an otherwise good game, this is just something that always perplexes me with Dusty****
  17. Any teams that allow the Cubs 2nd hitter to reach via the bunt with Pierre on base are just poorly prepared. Yay Walker.
  18. Is this dude from Mitchell & Ness (oh wait, nice hit John) reading his praise of McDonough and the Cubs off a teleprompter? His voice/tone just sounds so odd. He's like a 7th grader reading aloud in class.
  19. Are you guys really ignoring the fact that they "got the pitcher on the ropes" in large part by swinging at his first pitch? Hitters with a threat to do something swung early, that doesn't excuse guys like Neifi and Blanco being overly aggressive. Were they good pitches to hit or not? That's all I care about. Considering they were pitches thrown by a human, I doubt they were good ones to hit for Neifi and Blanco.
