  1. I disagree with booing Cubs players in general. But it has nothing to do with being early, or new to the NL. Jones is what he is, a crappy player. And by the way, if you start a thread with the purpose of telling other posters that what they choose to talk about isn't worth talking about, you're going to get a reaction.
  2. I would say it's very difficult to interpret tone in a post, and people shouldn't just assume condescension or patronization by the words. Sometimes if you try real hard to make the words as peaceful as possible, those can read as patronizing. There's a distinction between calling out a poster and "in essense" calling out a poster, which might not even be happening at all.
  3. easiest question yet...DFA for rusch. Unfortunately, the Cubs have a tough enough time dropping vets they don't owe money to, let alone guys they still owe nearly $6m.
  4. of course it never works the other way around. people that hate Neifi always just let it go when someone says a complimentary word about him. But do they talk about Neifi, or do they talk about the person who wrote something positive about Neifi? That's the point. If you say something positive about Neifi, I'm going to point out the negatives, because by and large, he's a negative to this team. I'm not going to call you out for saying something positive, or say you should shut up and stop talking positively about Neifi. I'm going to address the Cubs related topic, which is the point of a Cubs related message board.
  5. People never get banned for disagreeing. They get banned for acting like idiots. In your opinion, should Gunned get banned for the post he made? I don't think people get banned for first time offenses, unless it's blatant and/or the only thing they've typed. And people often get close to the line and get warned. And I really don't know what Gunned's history is. He/she doesn't ring a bell as somebody who routinely ignores the rules of the board and makes inappropriate posts.

  7. Man, sometimes I forget that Rusch has a 2 year deal, and he'll get more than $3m next year, and he has additional incentives that will probably kick in because Dusty will just keep letting his provenness overrule effectiveness.
  8. I'm willing to see him give up a hit or two, and maybe one run, but that's it. No walks. Oh, and he had better go all 9. 8 2/3 is fine by me.
  9. I'm willing to see him give up a hit or two, and maybe one run, but that's it.
  10. I understand, but I also disagree with what a lot of people define as "unrelated". A lot of threads can related to the offense, which Neifi negatively affects when he is involved. Plus, I know it's exaggeration, but it's nowhere near "every thread" that turns into a Neifi topic. If somebody throws a Neifi comment into a seemingly unrelated topic, typically it will be followed by no more than 1 or 2 other posts referencing in some form of aggreement. If people let it go, viewing it as a Cubs fan venting, the original topic will probably take over. But when people respond to those 1 or 2 comments about Neifi (or whatever side issue) by saying how stupid it is to bring that up and how some people can never be happy and always have to crap in other people's cereal bowls, then that is when the thread is going to disintigrate. Instead of spending time being critical of how other fans display their fandom, talk about the topics you do want to talk about. If somebody pops in what you perceive as an unrelated unnecessary jab at the team, leave it be and stick with the topic at hand. Or if you disagree with the assertion, explain why. But it doesn't solve anything to tell people they shouldn't write about a topic that relates to the Cubs, just because it bothers them. Oh, and uh yeah, Murton is awesome.
  11. The key difference here is, one side doesn't like an aspect of the Cubs, and the other side doesn't like that a thread exists talking about that dislike of an aspect of the Cubs. It's one thing to see a discussion that says: A:Neifi sucks. B:He is not as bad as you think because of X Y and Z. And it's entirely different to see: A: Neifi sucks. B: How many more times do we have to hear crap like this? People should be free to discuss the team however they want. Nobody should go around telling people they can't bring up a certain topic, assuming that topic is at least Cubs related. If somebody wants to vent by saying Neifi sucks, there is no reason why somebody else has to stop by and blast that poster. Everybody can have an opinion, but when one's opinion is "you shouldn't be able to talk about that anymore", then that can lead nowhere but to confrontation. If somebody says "optimistic Cubs fans are blind idiots", then you can talk about the merits of that post even existing. But as long as somebody is keeping their topics on the Cubs (organization, front office, players, coaches), then I just don't see any justification for attacking that person for having that opinion.
  12. I agree. but pointing out the flaws is not always done via critical thinking and making judgments based on logic and reason. sometimes there is quite a bit of off handed remarks made and analysis given that leaves out facts, makes logical leaps of faith, emphasizes the bad and de-emphasizes the good, etc. what is with people today anyway? the Cubs are on a three game winning streak, with our three best players hurt, two of those players appear to be coming back soon, our young guys are performing well, and a pitcher we all have anticipated seeing at Wrigley for 5 years now will be making his major league debut today. it's happy time people. there will be 60-70 loses this year to be pissed off after. It's been said before, but it's worth repeating. Every Cubs fan is happy with the win, but it's a marginal happiness. Until they win a world series, a regular season victory, or string of victories, just isn't going to cut it. Big picture stuff is what matters to those who still fret after a win.
  13. The ones whose entire reason for existing is to rip on other posters for not being good enough fans are surely going to turn into conflict.
  14. FYI, when somebody gets criticized on here it is usually for their body of work, not one game, one play or one mistake. Everybody is bound to get a clutch hit, or pitch a clutch inning at some point in the season. And everybody is bound to have a terrible at bat and pitch terribly in an outing. Most people, on this board at least, aren't going to judge them based on that one appearance, rather, they are going to look at their career, their recent seasons, and the longterm trends. I don't know, I've never knowingly watched a game with anybody from this board. As far people watching with me, I can only guess they enjoy it, since they keep coming back for more, and often ask about getting tickets and making more road trips to Chicago for games. And I keep getting invited back to games from people who do have tickets. But maybe they just like that I'm not afraid to double up on the beer runs. :pint: Enjoy the game, hope we don't ruin it too much.
  15. You're so wrong. We're going to lose three more games. But that's it! What do you mean "another" and "more". They haven't lost a game yet, and they sure as heck aren't going to start anytime soon.
  16. I dunno. We might have to pay some of Maddux's salary for that to work. $500,000 and not a penny more.
  17. Wow, this is quite ridiculous. The posters who post more are the bad irritating ones. Younger fans are the only ones complaining. Well, how about this? The old folks are the only ones who think back to back .500 seasons is some sort of accomplishment and that we should just be happy with whatever the Cubs do as long as they win more than they lose, because however bad something is now, it was probably worse before.
  18. To answer the question in the title: Yes, when the Cubs win the World Series. A 12-7 record is nice, but it's nothing to go gaga over. A nice outing by Marshall against a AAA team is better than a bad outing, but it doesn't mean much. A good start is preferrable to a slow start, but it doesn't mean there's nothing that can be improved on the team. Win 90+ games, go deep into the playoffs, and actually win a World Series, and I'll be happy.
  19. Next time you go to a game, perhaps you should turn to the fans next to you and you guys should boo eachother, instead of booing JJ. Close to 100 years and counting, and supporting the Tribune Co faithfully..... The Tribune Company hasn't been involved for 100 years, but I'm sure you knew that, being a real Cubs fan and all.
  20. I'm glad you do, because it's about time a real cub fan spoke up and opened some eyes..... You didn't even read this thread! We're trashing Jockstrap because he compared us negatively to TWINS fans because "they are there through thick and thin", which might be the stupidest Cubs-related thing ever said. That led to a discussion of if and when booing is acceptable. But it's good to know that you think you are "the voice" of Cubs fans when you can't even read a damn message board thread well enough to know what it's about. This is precisely my point, you don't get my post at all......I understand EXACTLY what this thread is all about. Using terms like "Jockstrap" is exactly my point.... Real fans don't make stupid nicknames of the players on their team.
  21. fire ......?
  22. Maddux threw 93 (?) pitches in his last start. Perhaps, they feel that the extra day will be beneficial for him. That is hardly an extraordinary number of pitches. He's averaged 92.2 for his career, and threw more than that several times last season. I think it has a lot more to do with their irrational faith in Rusch, since, you know, he's "proven" and everything.
  23. Some of my good friends, Sox fans, once said to me that only 1 in 4 Cub fans know anything about baseball, the others are just there for Budweisers, Bars, and Babes......Unfortunately, I've learned that they were right. It's weird that your Sox fan friends new that long before you, a real Cubs fan, found out.
  24. I'm glad you do, because it's about time a real cub fan spoke up and opened some eyes..... I would like further information from a real Cubs fan, do you have a newsletter?
  25. I enjoy your unprovoked attack against Cubs fans in general and posters in this thread in particular.
