  1. The act of hitting doesn't damage hitters. The act of pitching is what hurts pitchers. Swinging a bat hard in early March isn't a risk to a player's season, pitching harder than normal is. Hitting and pitching are completely different.
  2. you make it seem like the Cubs are handling Peruvian infants. we are talking about millionaires here. the health and future as a human being will not be impacted, only the health and future as a baseball player. as most of you know, I am usually a bit of a Cubs apologist, but with where he is at right now, throwing 45 pitch sessions over and over and over again, I just don't see him making it back for another month, assuming they will progress at the same rate they have been. I'm done with it. I love Kerry Wood. I moved back from Oregon to follow Cubs baseball after seeing his 19 K game. but the future plans should not be Kerry Wood, so the Cubs should get out of him what they can right fricken now. Let me get this straight. The Cubs knew Kerry Wood needed shoulder surgery. They knew this, and their response was to move him from the rotation to the bullpen, and bring him out for multiple outings, right up until a couple days before the surgery. They knew he needed surgery, kept throwing him out there despite knowing he needed shoulder surgery, and you think they are babying him?
  3. I don't think it's any more than just coincidence. Their day-to-day activities were far less intense than the drills and side work they would have had to complete in camp, so I don't see how they could really be any more spent. I think Zambrano would dial it up if he were pitching in a family wiffle ball game. You aren't getting what I'm saying. You can't balance out more intense work in March games with less intense work in practice. Pitchers succeed due to routine. They come in every February and start to get into enough shape so they can get by on minimal effort in early spring games. This year they went from blah to full bore heart on the sleeve competition in a week. They threw a lot harder in game situations nearly a full month before they normally would. They completely changed their routine, were away from their pitching coaches, and were involved in high stakes games in which there was no room for the type of effort you'd get in most spring games.
  4. You mean, other than the facts the Marlins would never consider the deal?
  5. Every receiver is a project pick in the NFL draft.
  6. As hilarious as people blaming him being too calm, or is it too immature? I always forget. What's so hilarious about thinking that guys overthrowing in early March, when they are not ready for big game situations, could have something to do with all the bad starts to the season for WBC pitchers? Where is there evidence of overthrowing? Evidence? Guys were going full bore in early March when they are normally throwing 2-3 innings in completely meaningless games. Zambrano was clearly dialing it up on those games we saw on TV. Several WBC pitchers are off to bad starts.
  7. Doesn't mean much.

  9. Sorry for the triple post but He throws tuesday May 2nd. if all goes well, he's up for rehab start #1 May 6th. If all goes well he's up for rehab start #2 May 11th. If all goes well he's back for the tail end of the SD series at home or the Washington Series at home.May 14th, or May 16th. this is right in line with what's been said and = a couple weeks. The two rehab starts = 10 days plus the 4 days rest from the last rehab start = a couple weeks. I don't see this as being any less optimistic, but someone correct me if I'm wrong. actually, it's not in line with what has been said. what has been said was beginning of May, mid-May if the knee surgery costs him some time, but it didn't according to the reports, so what was expected was the beginning of May. he's at 60 pitches right now. with the way he's been treated to this point, do you see the Cubs letting him throw 100 pitches by May 14-16? I don't. he'll do at least 4 rehab starts to 'build up his arm strength'. Not being a smart ass, but honestly, what reports said the knee didn't cost him any time. I thought it set him back at LEAST a week. If he's back by the White Sox series, I'll be happy, if he's back before then ecstatic. If it's AFTER the Sox series, I'll be disappointed. I don't think any of us know how many rehab starts, but I always thought it was going to be 2 for some reason. I heard a week to 10 days expected, and I believe it was actually 11 days. Mid-may would be right in-line with the talk all season.
  10. I think all the hype about this TE class was ridiculously overblown, and the vast majority of them are going to be worthless in the NFL. I'm guessing only 2 or 3 stick in the league and do anything of value. And nobody knows who those 2 or 3 will be.
  11. He gave them a B. He reacted positively to just about every move they made. He talked at length about Dusty, and seemed to like both DBs a lot. He really likes Angelo, it seems. Last year he gushed about the Bradley pick and gave us an A for the draft, as I recall. As opposed to Dr. Z, who has hated the Bears for years, and really has a problem with Angelo for never returning his calls since coming to Chicago.
  12. Did they actually do something? I haven't heard anything official. Taking him out of the rotation is doing something. But did they actually do that, or are people just speculating. Rusch is still listed as the expected starter.

  14. What the hell? details plz. It was a baseball bat? http://students.ou.edu/D/Dusty.R.Dvoracek-1/ I'm reading quotes on message boards talking about the bats, and have also seen quotes saying there was no bat involved in the incident. Either way, the story is he beat a friend unconscious.
  15. I disagree. Football is not a stable sport. A great defense can go soft in a year or two. And the Bears defense did have some weakness. Plus, I think it's different when you focus on offense and "ignore" defense (pitching) than when you focus on defense and "ignore" offense. I just don't see how anybody they could have drafted on offense at 26 would have made the 2006 offense any better. Grossman's health will determine if this offense improves, and Griese's presence will make it easier if Rex goes down. If the Bears are going to win the Super Bowl it's going to be because of a dominant defense. The offense will never be great. It has to get better, but the realistic goal is more like average. I was very happy they didn't pretend the defense was fine and didn't need help. I think all those 2005 offensive picks are going to have a much greater impact than any 2006 offensive picks could have had this year.

  17. The point is they feel they have to justify the deal they foolishly signed him to. They won't just pay him to go away. I wouldn't mind him being gone, but at the same time, I wouldn't mind him doing the dirty work in blowout games like that last 2. Rather than using 3-4 guys for an inning or 2 a piece, I'd much rather have a mop-up guy eat up those innings. IIRC, Rusch did a solid job back there before, and I'd much rather use him than someone like Hill in that spot. I think that's part of the reason that Welly and Leicester struggled, they were stuck in that long relief role which is so unpredicatable. They went from starting or having a relief role, to pitching whenever the Cubs were getting blown out. I'd rather use a guy in that role who we aren't trying to develop. On a team so devoid of offense, it would be nice not to waste roster space with 7 relievers, but if Rusch is going to stay, then yes, he better be used as the garbage man. I don't want him anywhere near an important relief inning.
  18. I gave it a D, based entirely on initial reaction. When you think about the draft a little, it might not be nearly as bad as many are saying, and could be great (could you image if both DBs come anywhere near their full potential?). You need 5. They had 2 legit corners, drafted 1 and signed 1, Danieal Manning is a safety/return man, not a corner (but why is his name Dan-yell?). And Hester might still end up being more of a return man and receiver. The other corners are Tillman, Vasher, Manning Jr. and ........? Rashied Davis switched to WR this offseason. There are a few others on the depth chart, but they are more roster filler than potential help.
  19. So did they sign this guy as an undrafted free agent? I noticed the Giants signed Lewis from George Mason, but haven't seen a list of UFAs.
  20. I would really like the pick if they were creative enough to get him some touches on offense. But I'm not sure how creative the Bears actually are, and if they can find a way to use him appropriately. I still think it was a reach selection, given that he doesn't have a real position. I would have liked one of those slash QBs around the 4th round. Instead of overpaying Randle El in free agency, they could have found a cheap one in the draft.
  21. Who wished for that, aside from opposing fans? Dusty wanted the "versatile" backups that litter the lineup now with their inability to hit. And as long as guys who pitched big innings for Dusty before are hurt, there's no way you can say he better not get an ounce of blame.

  23. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/milb/stats/stats.jsp?n=Rich%20Hill&pos=P&sid=t451&t=p_pbp&pid=448179 He's been really good.
  24. Luckily, most football games are played in cold weather.
  25. Dusty Tzu will not show his hand in advance so as to prevent the opposition from preparing.
