  1. I thought that as well, Bob didn't seem to agree. Its all speculation really because Williams is in Arizonia. Plus, he like Pole for pitching coach as well, he was maddux coach in atlanta wasn't he? Regardless, if Billy wanted the job, they'd have to be stupid to not give it to him. If Maddux decides to retire, I want him in the dugout next season too. I would love to see Maddux as PC and Billy as HC. I really like this idea...getting former Cubs (not named Sarge) for the bench makes me smile....BTW...I like Sarge, just not what he's done as a coach. I would rather get good coaches than worry about whether they have ties to the Cubs.
  2. When he is added to the major league roster, he gets a one-year contract worth $22,000,022 - his uniform number is 22. Because he won't be playing the full season, he gets only a prorated percentage of that, which would come to about $12.25 million if he rejoins Houston in late June. The tentative goal is to have him start against the Minnesota Twins on June 22 - if he's put on the big league roster on that day, he would earn $12,632,307.
  3. The Yankess have always had a bigger payroll than all of the other teams. Go back and look at their teams of the 70's that they bought, mostly from the A's Charlie Finley. The recent spree has been unprecedented. I know in the mid 90s they did not have the highest payroll, Baltimore did. And when the Yankees finally took over that ranking, they were only slightly ahead of the 2nd and 3rd highest payrolls. It wasn't until around 2000, when they went hard after guys like Mussian, Giambi and others, that their payroll skyrocketed past everybody else.
  4. This was in Monday's Cubune; "Outfielder Angel Pagan, on the disabled list since April 16, could begin a rehab assignment within the next week to 10 days." BCB And the likelihood of him making the bench "a lot better" is not very good. They need some power on the bench.
  5. You have to decide whether the potential entertainment value is worth the hassle and likely frustration. Personally, I wouldn't go.
  6. What is with the "they just have to" stuff? Okay great, they have to. But they aren't. Teams very rarely ever come back the way Houston did. Many knew this was a bad offense going into the season, with or without Lee. A hot start did not change that.
  7. Jones would be an offensive asset as a CF, especially since Pierre is hitting so well...but then who would bat leadoff?! Does it matter? Nobody is right now. In all seriousness, the answer to this is as easy as it is sad, Womack.
  8. This shouldn't be a 20-31 team, but it is, and bums like Hendry and Dusty should take the fall for that.
  9. As long as they actually play the games, and the Cubs win them legally, I just want them to win one........... and then maybe a dozen more before I die.
  10. If Hendry swings a deal for Wilson, and then Miguel Cabrera, I might just have to stop calling for his head.
  11. There is not a chance they will do this. They will have a real backup catcher when Barrett sits. They will have to send somebody down to make room for whoever it is, but there will be one. And Soto's name has been in every article that has been written about the subject.
  12. Why do people think Glendon shined? He gave up 4 runs in 4 innings, didn't he? There's no way that qualifies as a good outing.
  13. Hendry and Co. aren't being asked to build a world-wide empire. Neifi handles the bat well? He sucks with the bat and his defense is overrated. He brings nothing to the team. Womack is 36 and has sucked the vast majority of his career. Just because he is no worse than what we have doesn't mean he's any good, or that fans should except him with open arms. That's similar to all the people who say fans who are pissed at the record under Hendry/Baker should be happy it's not as bad as other Cubs teams (although the current record is certainly making that ridiculous argument even more pointless). He's a crappy baseball player on a crappy baseball team put together by crappy management. He's as eligible for bashing as anybody else.
  14. That's my thinking too. Nope. When a player wins, he gets to chose. I still think Barrett should drop the appeal if it isn't heard and serve it vs. AL Central teams from June 16-25. When a player wins what? If he wins the appeal, he is no longer suspended, so he doesn't have to choose anything. If the suspension is reduced, it's served immediately following the ruling. Sosa was suspended 8 games, got it reduced to 7, and started serving immediately after. I've never heard of a player choosing when to serve, except if you interpret him dropping his appeal at a favorable time as choosing when to serve. But that doesn't have anything to do with winning an appeal.
  15. Bob Brenly? Larry Dierker? Didn't Brenly serve as a coach under Baker in San Fran?
  16. Good for you. But don't begrudge other people the right to enjoy a day at the ballpark. It was Zambrano vs Hudson. This isn't all out of towners.
  17. Yeah my thoughts too. Pat said the attendance was 40,000 plus, which is shocking and disappointing. It's not shocking, and it shouldn't be disappointing. These tickets were sold months ago, when people were buying the hope. Do you expect people to just give them up? The bad play has already been reflected in the dismal tv ratings. If it continues, it will have an effect on attendance. But with so many tickets sold already, you can't reasonably expect people not to use them.
  18. Yeah, Dusty gets an extension, Womack and Bynum get credited for saving the Cubs, and sign the Neifi special. Cubs go on to finish 2006 with 75 wins, and we get to see it all again in 2007, but with more speed.
  19. By the way, did Beane get out of the Hudson business at the right time? He peaked at 26 and 27, was down a little at 28, then more at 29. Now he's off to a less than steller start to his age 30 season. Giving up 4 ER to the Cubs is embarrassing. Could his lack of size be wearing on him?
  20. And the .250 OBP day for Perez actually raises his pathetic season numbers.
