  1. Bentiment. Game day spells it Betemit. You surely don't me to comment on your spelling, eh? I always thought it was spelled fred's way.
  2. Jacque lost it in the sun? His overrated fielding actually cost the no-hitter, which effectively saved Zambrano from throwing 20-40 more pitches? I think I'm warming to Mr. Jones.
  3. Why is Zambrano still pitching? A competent manager who can think 2 seconds ahead of time would have a reliever warm for as soon as he gives up his first hit. Dusty, you sucksty.
  4. AJ Burnett territory. Although he only threw 129 that day. Of course he's been nothing but healthy ever since, because high pitch counts can't hurt pitchers.
  5. Man, Gameday is making it look like Z is missing by fractions of an inch.
  6. Pitch 1 - Called Strike Pitch 2 - In play, out(s) recorded Aramis Ramirez singles on a ground ball to center fielder Andruw Jones. That doesn't make any sense. Pitch 1 - Swinging Strike Pitch 2 - In play, run-scoring play Freddie Bynum homers (2) on a fly ball to right field. Aramis Ramirez scores. That makes even less sense.
  7. Nope. But you have to have a reliever warm early in the inning. You don't wait for the first hit to get somebody up, when he's already thrown this many and struggled as much as he has.
  8. He's up over 90 pitches. If this inning lasts much longer, I hope Dusty gets somebody up. I don't want to see no 150 pitch individual accomplishment. If he can give you 7 innings with only 1 run given up, you should take it.
  9. I've got Mike and the Mad Dog on in the background. The 20/20 update guy keeps saying the Cubs are without Michael Barrett today after he was suspended for 10 days. This guy works on a sports talk show, he has for years. His life revolves around the sports show, and this show always talks about baseball. How are you not aware that suspensions are never served immediately?
  10. I think that would be terrible no matter how good they were. You could easily see Carlos end up like Wood and Prior within a year. I can see going to the 4 man rotation, but you have to prepare guys for that, don't just thrust it on them in the middle of the season.
  11. It's good that they're at least showing some caution with Wood. Hopefully somebody other than Rusch gets the call. So if Prior throws Tuesday, he should start again on Sunday, June 4, and then might be ready to start for the big team on Friday, June 9, at Cincy (not exactly the best park to have your first game back). If he has a 3rd outing, maybe he starts back at home during the HOU series.
  12. Did this really happen, or did he line out to Laroche?
  13. Freddie's gameday photo tells me one thing: He's happy as heck and completely shocked that he's on a major league roster.
  14. 11 pitches that inning, the Cubs swung at 9 of them. If only they hit better with men in scoring position...........
  15. Z knows what's wrong with the offense, and he's trying to explain it to Hendry and Baker.
  16. So in other words, it's not bad as long as they do the exact opposite of what they have done and actuall will be doing.
  17. he gave him 3 years cause other teams were offering him 2 and he didn't want encanarcion, sanders and burnitz. sure he likes him, but he doesn't "covet" Jones-types. that's absurd. he covets beltran-types, but the trib doesn't covet 7yr and 119 contracts. What is absurd is the fact that it's true that Hendry likes Jones type players. It's painfully obvious to anybody that has paid attention to Hendry moves and/or listened to what he says he likes in a player. so flip flopping on the coveting charge? jones hasn't sucked like many predicted. calm down. What? How am I flip flopping? Man, you really like acting like a jerk don't you. Hendry covets this type of player. He's happy as a pig in spit that he got him and he's going to keep him.

  19. You keep saying that, and you keep ignoring the replies. Jim Hendry wanted Jones. He's exactly the type of player Hendry looks for. Hendry is signed through 2008. The Cubs are stuck with Jones. If they were smart enough to clean house, then a new GM might be able to come in and move him. But that's not likely, so the slim chance of dealing Jones is practically zero. People say the Cubs are stuck with Jones because people realize how the Cubs work. I still don't agree. I think Hendry looked at the hole in RF, looked at what other teams were asking in trade, and looked at the free agent market and decided that Jones was the best fit. I'm sure if he offered Pie, Zambrano, Prior, etc. during the off season he could have had a better RF, but the cost was too much. There isn't a single sign out there that points to Jim Hendry not completely liking what Jones offers. It's exactly the type of player Hendry has coveted since he's been here. I predicted Jones, or a player like Jones, would be in the Cubs OF years ago. Hendry is very happy with Jones, and the Cubs are stuck with them both unless they clean house from the top.
  20. In 18 AB's with the Reds, Womack had one more RBI than Pierre has currently. Plus he's been taking walks this year. I predict he sparks the offense. Seriously. And that's the worst part. He could spark it a bit (only in comparison to how bad it's been), but still suck and get an unwarrented extension.
  21. He'd destroy it. With this coaching staff? I highly doubt it. I don't think the coaches would have any effect on Rickey. My first reaction to the claim that he'd destroy it though, was no way. He hit just .200 in his last stint in the majors, in 2003 at 44. But his OBP was still .321. He's 47 now. If he could hit .180, he could probably significantly beat Pierre's OBP.
