  1. He blamed the lack of interest in him on collusion and said the Cubs didn't negotiate in good faith, or something like that. Couldn't understand why a below average hitter reaching his mid 30's would garner little attention.
  2. Um...what does the bolded section have to do with Rich Hill? Glendon has career 4.94 ERA, a record of 59-91, 1561 hits allowed in 1350 2/3's innings. He has had one, one season under 4.00 ERA. What's he proven as a starter? That he sucks.
  3. :| I've seen lots of references to this story and the people who are freaking out are the "baseball people", largely associated with the Mets, who reprimanded him. Every media report I've heard or read has basically says it's no big deal.
  4. The only thing more annoying than sophomoric counters to annoying "you all hate Jones; eat crow" comments are the annoying people who annoyingly decide to tell others what to type.
  5. So his range increased at 34, 35 and 36? I doubt that. It did, and Walker's has declined. Grudz http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?playerId=3199&context=fielding Walker http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?playerId=3539&context=fielding Oh, range factor. That doesn't really mean he has displayed more range. I really don't think he has.
  6. This happened over the weekend. The series is over and NY is in LA now. The only reaction I've heard has been from the Mets themselves.
  7. So his range increased at 34, 35 and 36? I doubt that.
  8. Thanks for the giggles...you failed to mention defense here which is where Grudzielanek has it ALL over Todd Walker. OPS alone is not the way to judge a player. You must look at the COMPLETE player...but I know how you stat geeks are. Oh and it helps that Grudz knows how to keep his yapper shut and play the game hard. Character guy... What a huge loss for the Cubs when they lost Grudz. Grudz was hated in LA, many thought of him as a jerk in Chicago as well. And for all the talk that Walker must be a bad character guy because he's left several teams, Grudz has played for just as many teams. And Grudz does not "have" Walker on defense. They are very similar.
  9. I read an article where Hendry said they had 3 middle infielders they were happy with, Neifi, Hairston and Cedeno.
  10. Oh, I completely agree with getting rid of him if you can. I just don't think the timing is right now to get it done.
  11. Exactly, I don't understand why people are harping on Baker tonight. This game was just about as flawless as you are going to get from Baker and the Cubs. Enjoy. People are disgusted with the amount of pitches Z throw, but let's face it...it's not really about the pitches that hurts the arm, it's the mechanics. When pitchers get tired, they tired to get lazy with their mechanics, and there arms would go to spots theys shouldn't. I'm no pitching coach, but Z look like he had solid mechanics from pitch 1, to pitch 126, thus he eliminate any necessary "stress" in his arms, by staying consistant with his mechanics. Bottomline: to those who thought Baker should screw the no-hitter and take Z out....you guys are COMPLETE wrong. Eat crow. Baseball is about superstition, and with Z having it "ON" tonight, you don't break that superstition. You allow the pitcher to go as FAR as necessary to achieve the no-hitter (unless it's extra innings). And when Z gave up the hit with 1 out in the 8, he or for that matter Z, wanted to finish the inning. Good decision by Baker, and those Baker hater's for the night (not calling anybody out specifically), just ENJOY the win, and Zambrano's performance. Stop looking for anything to nitpick about. =D> =D> Carlos, oops, I mean Ace Carlos. On normal circumstances I would say there is no way we allow Z to go to 120 pitches but if he's pitching a no-no there is no way you can pull him. I don't know how anybody could say he had great mechanics late. He was overthrowing, and missing badly on several pitches. He was clearly done. And the right thing to do was to have a pitcher warming in the bullpen for as soon as he gives up the one hit. There's no justification to keep him in longer.
  12. That's getting old. Who is getting a free pass? I believe Walker and Barrett are about the only ones I have not said anything negative about. If you want me to start ripping on them, so be it. Until then, stop trying to put words in others' mouths. Please start ripping Marmol.
  13. No need for elections, power abhors a vacuum, Jones will simply step in and assume the role.
  14. I don't get why the Cubs would do that. He's pretty much a lock to stay with football right? I could see a team with lots of picks taking their chances on a guy like this, but when you have only two picks in 5 rounds why waste one on a guy that's not going to play baseball?
  15. Hey, yeah....let's make fun of the guy that's carrying the Cubs offense right now. I thought that was a very complimantary post.
  16. I think if you do it, you'd have to wait a little longer, and hope his numbers stay solid while you wait. If the team scuffles around .500 between now and the ASB, their chances would be practically nil. Then you can deal him. But I don't think the timing is right at this moment to make a deal. If he plays over his head and the team roars back into contention, you might have to keep him for now. Agreed. Though you wonder if you can strike at the Yanks while their iron is burning hot. He could do a lot of damage with that short RF porch at Yankee Stadium. If they keep putting up 10+ against the Red Sox their iron won't be that hot. You need a couple low scoring games with their pitching staff getting blown out to really get them going.
  17. Almost all Cubs pitchers struggle with command, so I'd say coaching plays a roll. But the biggest complaint is that he's not given a reasonable opportunity to get over his struggles. I don't get why a 7+ ERA guy like Rusch gets a free pass but Hill has to take the demotion and be criticized by his manager and GM for sticking up for a teammate.
  18. He kind of leads with the left shoulder, correct?
  19. Grudz had an OPS+ of 96 and 92 in 2004 and 2005. Walker was 105 and 115. Grudz is in his late 30's now, while Todd is 3 years younger. Neither one is in huge demand, but Todd is clearly the better option.

  21. I'd like to see Edmonton, but Carolina will win it. This could be the second consecutive warm weather American expansion team to beat a Canadian team in the finals and the 12th consecutive American team win since Montreal in 93.
  22. No, this shouldn't be a sub .400 W% team (and thankfully, now it's not), but it would have to be about a .656 W% team to get over .500 by the ASB. I think the trading deadline is a more realistic option, and even that will take a lot of work.
  23. Jacque Jones is God.
  24. It's not just that now is the time because of what else is happening in the league. Now is the time because later will be too late. They need to get back over .500 by the trading deadline to have a real shot at it, and it's very difficult to make up 10 games in less than 9 weeks.
