  1. Again? And again? How many more times today? No WGN Goony? Not in the office.
  2. I think I heard he had a separated shoulder before, could have reaggravated if that's true.
  3. Do you go up and in and see if he can turn on it?
  4. It's not a good sign to have a major league team be last in the league in runs scored 2+ months into the season, and to be last, or near last, in OBP for several consecutive years.
  5. Jones has a bad back. Nevin can't hit righties.
  6. Barrett was up before the pitch got there. Looks like the Astros got caught "trying to make something happen.".
  7. If he needs 5 or 6 days to come back from 80-90 pitch outings, don't you think he'll need a lot of time coming back from 20-30 pitch outings in the pen? I don't think a move to the pen is going to help a guy who needs long recovery times.
  8. Mojo, I know where you are coming from but at the same time I feel like these guys have to live up to their salaries and start pitching for us. These guys are making a boat load of money and as an organization I would like to see us get something in return for the investment. Well yeah, we'd all like to see that. But you can't do anything about it. The injuries happened. It's in the past. The money spent is lost. The key is doing the best job with them moving forward (and it wouldn't hurt if management learned a thing or two about overusing young pitchers).
  9. Did he hurt it on the fall yesterday or is it just a recurring thing that comes and goes?
  10. Is Womack's speed a myth? He's old, it's quite possible he's lost a step, or three. I've seen him thrown out three times now on balls I thought a speedy guy should beat out.
  11. Pierre's customary ground ball to the right side was hit a little more solidly this time, and it went to the 1B instead of 2B.
  12. Kind of like the panties Frank thought the waitress at the Olive Garden may or may not have been wearing? But I sort of think well maybe they're silk panties, maybe it's a thong. Maybe it's something really cool that I don't even know about. You know, and uh, and I started feeling... what? what I thought we were in the trust tree in the nest, were we not?
  13. But, you're also taking what is being said out of context. It would have been fine with most if Jones sat last night against a lefty and then played today against the righty. To do it backwards is just plain stupid (assuming that he's just getting a day off and isn't actually hurt). We've been calling for some sort of platoon for him all along. I for one was hoping for a logical L/R platoon, not the backward one he's in yesterday and today.
  14. If he devotes himself to baseball exclusively, it sounds like he does have star potential. He's very raw at the moment with lots of room for improvement on his consistency and pitching mechanics. I think both his fastball and slider have the potential to turn into plus pitches. Well then that's the key isn't it, getting him to quit football. You can't turn a raw "body" into a star pitcher if he's playing another sport. I don't think anyone's debating that. I'm certainly not. I was just responding to your comment about his ceiling. Yeah, I wasn't thinking it was a debate. I've just heard a lot of different things about the kid and I'm trying to figure it out. So do you think the Cubs believe he's done with football, or do you think they are perfectly happy with having a raw body go play another sport and not work on pitching very much? Are they just betting that he'll fall in the NFL draft, or that he's not serious about the 2 sport thing?
  15. The Furcal/Lee collision is quickly climbing up the charts of the most annoying oft-repeated clips when either the opposing team or national broadcaster is talking about the Cubs.
  16. Who didn't see that coming. Have fun in all your future endeavors Wood. I don't think an exam, given what's happened so far, is a bad thing. I'd rather they be proactive than say "we don't know what the problem is".
  17. If he devotes himself to baseball exclusively, it sounds like he does have star potential. 18. So was he a potential 3rd rounder that fell due to the committment? My guess would be he was considerer less than a 3rd rounder, and fell even further because of college. If 3rd round money is able to get him to change his mind, he must not have been getting 3rd round interest before.
  19. I was about to post the exact same thing. It better not be a rest issue, because that's just plain dumb. Did he hurt himself falling down on that error yesterday?
  20. The difference is the Cubs only had 2 picks in the first 5 rounds and they used both of those picks very strangely.
  21. But Hendry isn't going to trade Jones so it doesn't matter. I don't think you'll see a trade where it looks like we're getting rid of him and throwing in cash to help, but I can see Hendry trading him as value in a package to bring in an impact player. I really can't. I would be very surprised if Hendry traded Jones.
