  1. 2:1 K:BB, 50% SB%, no defense at 3B. Future corner OF?
  2. Sounds like signability was a huge issue (not best player available). Did somebody advise him to repeat "get on base" a lot?
  3. The only way this makes sense to me is if the kid is a die-hard Cubs fan and let it be known that he would only quit football for a chance to play for the Cubs. He's got no incentive to sign for anything less than top dollar, but it doesn't make sense to give top dollar to a guy who is going to go risk injury on the football field and look to be a 2 sport star.
  4. I've been more positive, that's why they are winning. Negative fan energy is why they were losing.
  5. First round money and letting him play football doesn't strike me as the greatest of plans. I thought there was a thing about major college players who step back on campus not being able to sign. Wasn't that the thing with Brownlie? Or was that a Boras imposed deadline? I don't understand this move at all. He doesn't seem like much of a prospect to begin with, and he has enormous baggage with the football situation.
  6. Not that it matters much, but that was Neifi's OBP coming into the season. It's actually .299 now.
  7. Stick all you want, you'll be wrong. Grudz has been below average and Walker has been above. Walker has also been more above average than Grudz has been below average. He's also younger. There's a reason the market was thing for Grudz.
  8. No, they are not. That is a difference. And it's more pronounce if you look at the past 2 years, which is more important when talking about guys already in their mid-to-late 30's (Grudz). From 2003-2005 Brian Giles OPS was 896, Andruw Jones was 868, a tighter difference than Walker and Grudz. But Giles outproduced him each year and out OPS+ him each year. Giles has been the better hitter. They are not essentially the same. Just because a guy is relatively close to another guy, it doesn't mean he's the same. If one guy outproduces the other guy each year, he is better. And in Walker's case, he's also younger.
  9. It's not that significant of a difference other than labeling them in a general manner. Walker was slightly above average. Grudz was slighly below average. Last year's difference of 23 is significant, and it shows how much better offensively Walker was. There's nothing wrong with the stat in comparing them offensively. I just didn't see how Grudz could be classified as a below average hitter and Walker is an above average hitter. I guess it was just a gross exaggeration of the facts. No, it's not a gross exaggeration of the facts, it is the facts. Walker has been significantly better than Grudz in recent years.
  10. Walker has been significantly better than Grudz. He hasn't been "a lot better" in the Pujols is a lot better than Paul Konerko sort of way, but it's been a significant difference. And since this thread started as somebody wondering why Grudz doesn't get much credit (I think that's how it started, I don't remember now), I think it's very reasonable to compare his production and age to Walker. Todd is younger and better, and didn't get much attention on the market. It stands to reason that an older worse version of Walker would get even less attention.
  11. Hatred of Womack? He's sucked most of his career. He was with the Cubs before and sucked (albeit in limited and injury riddled opportunity), and his best year was 2004 with the rival Cardinals. He got off to a nice start with the Cubs, but has probably already started his inevitable return to crappiness.
  12. None of them have ever been in my kitchen.
  13. I still remember seeing my first Playmate born in the 80's, that was awkward.
  14. I would think that would fit under the creative category. It seems to be a rather common notion that we'll take him so it'd be expected or not very creative IMO. I see the bait and switch coming on. But he said creative is not the oppositve of expected. People might be expecting them to take the guy exactly because they know with no 2-4 the Cubs need to be creative.
  15. I would think that would fit under the creative category.
  16. Sounds like the "best player available" comment is completely bogus. They wanted him, knew that he wasn't the best available, but also knew they couldn't get him without later picks. If he signs this summer (a guy who was expecting 3rd round money should probably jump at 1st round offers) where would he play? Boise? Peoria? I'm not used to college hitters. If they think he's a possible CF candidate, and he's already got the college pedigree, could Pie possibly be on the trading block with Hendry desperate for the team to get better in under 2 years (when his next extension will be talked about)?
  17. The bottom line is all of this is Hendry is not going to trade Jones, regardless of how he plays.
  18. And having Womack in the second spot is lighting a fire under Pierre. Guy is getting hits, taking walks, and stealing bases with Womack up there. Doesn't seem to have any pressure anymore, unlike the past couple months. Why was he tanking when Walker was hitting 400+ and taking walks behind him? I can't say for sure, but it seems like there is some kind of understanding with speedy guys. Seems like they are more comfortable with each other when they know the other won't be caught off in a double play most of the time, or make a stupid mistake at the plate. Tony Womack compliments Pierre well, and we've needed that. If Tony's hitting, that's a bonus. If not, he takes walks. Best of both worlds. I doubt it has anything to do with 2 speedy guys being on the same wavelength. Pierre was playing like crap for a long time, much worse than should have been expected. A little resurgence was inevitable, no matter who was hitting 2nd.
  19. So this guy "has the body" but he hasn't hit and shouldn't have been taken so early. Great.
  20. But it'll only be about 9 minutes between the Cubs picks.
  21. Agreed. Same complaint with the NBA lottery and draft. If people watched, MLB would allow much more time.
  22. And he's been carrying my team since Matsui went down. He's taken me from last to middle of the pack in about 3 weeks.
  23. He blamed the lack of interest in him on collusion and said the Cubs didn't negotiate in good faith, or something like that. Couldn't understand why a below average hitter reaching his mid 30's would garner little attention. He is not below average. He has about .040 difference in OPS with Walker. He's had a sub 100 OPS+ the past couple years, which is below average. So then Walker is barely average? He's been a decent amount above average the past couple years.
  24. idiots are annoying
