  1. I realize this is petty and I should be a better person and fan than this, but, as irrational as I know it is, I simply cannot forgive Dempster for the game1 performance against the Dodgers in the playoffs. No, it wasn't entirely his fault. Yes the team didn't score much for him and yes I do like him as a ballplayer. However, the team needed a big time performance in that game from him. To come out so small, so nervous, so wild.....after a season of so much hope. I simply can't look past that. I know the issue is entirely mine and I may be alone. To me, the guy is a #3 at best. So you can't separate your irrational feelings that you are aware are irrational from your evaluation of him as a baseball player? That's some tasty meatballin. You're fooling yourself if you think nets anything more than a couple fringe prospects at the deadline.
  2. Someone asked the question, I answered. Maybe my choice of words wasn't great but it's the best way I can describe it. Oh and you're a tool.
  3. Whut. People aren't kidding with the irrational thing. Like I said, it is entirely me and it may be completely irrational. Someone asked the question, I answered. He went less than 5 innings and gave up 7 walks and 4er. The team needed an ace right there and this was the best he could do. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=281001116

  5. Didn't Baker imply racism a few times too? I remember the comment about someone dropping a deuce in his dugout spot and racism being brought up as a reason or something like that.
  6. Additionally: Hawkins: racism related Bradley: racism related Jacque Jones: felt unfairly treated, might have been racism mixed in. Flames were fanned by close friend Tori Hunter. Baker: ran out of top shelf arms to wreck Silva: vocally upset that he lost his job to a more talented player(Cashner) and was strung along despite the fact that they know he would lose out. I think DeRosa, Prior, and Pierre each might have griped a bit after their respective stays. I don't recall DeRosa, Prior or Pierre griping at all. Mark Grace is the one that irritated me: "I'm not good enough to play for the Cubs but I'm good enough to play for the WS champions!" douchbag
  7. It didn't. Raley was in Tennessee for over a year. Good god I need some coffee.
  8. I fail to see the logic in promoting Raley from Peoria to Iowa. When did that happen?
  9. What the F is a you player? Pretty funny typo You missed the 2nd one. :D Working from home this week and we're out of coffee.
  10. I do see your point but the point I was trying to make is that the Cubs need better players all over the diamond. The farm system isn't in a position to fill the talent gap between the Cubs and the rest of the league. I want the Cubs to build a competitive team for the long-term. I love Castro but he, LaHair and Rizzo doesn't bring a championship. Like people have said in this thread, it would take a lot to trade Castro but I pray that the front office wouldn't pass on two+ top prospects for Castro IF those players have the long-term potential to surpass Castro alone. It all depends on the deal and the players involved but like the article had suggested, you have to at least listen. That's all I'm really saying. I'm not saying that Castro should be traded for seven scrubs - if the right deal blows me away, I'd do the trade and I hope the front office would as well. It isn't about the fact that "he's the best position prospect since Grace and we need to keep those guys". For me, it's about building sustained success and championships. Any steps needed to take the team in that direction should be taken. And for the record, I do think that Dempster will be traded at the deadline, but he isn't going to bring back anything significant. He is overvalued by this board.
  11. Castro is 22. The Marlins traded Josh Beckett when he was 25 and a bonafide ace to the Red Sox. They received two excellent prospects back in Hanley Ramirez and Anibel Sanchez (though there were other players involved as well). The age difference is significant but a team trading a good young player for prospects is not unprecedented.
  12. Absolutely not. I'm against this entire board if it collectively thinks that Castro -- OR ANYONE -- is untouchable given our situation. Anyone and everyone is on the table, period end of story. Just depends on what we might get in return. Basically my opinion as well. So many holes, ok but not great farm system. One you and very good player isn't enough. If the team has the opportunity to turn that into two very good and you players you have to do it. I love the kid, but like someone said above, if the Orioles came to Hoyer offering Machado and Bundy I would do it.
  13. I love Castro but if trading him brings back some blue chip prospects I'm all for it. He's the best position prospect to come along in some time but he alone doesn't make this team a contender. With a major league team this bad, they have to listen to offers for anyone and everyone. The issue though is that it would take a lot to move him and I don't see anyone willing to part with that much.
  14. Probably about the same time for me. Moneyball (the book) played into that as well and a lifetime of watching prospects that scouts raved about flame out in AA or after a cup of coffee. I didn't like the trade for Pierre more because I liked Nolasco and less because I didn't like Pierre though. Where do people get decent defensive stats though. UZR?
  15. 6IP 7Hits 3BB 4ER But all games are the same so it's doesn't matter.
  16. Lord knows what this even means. That means he is at his worst when his team needs a W the most. See playoffs, Dodgers. This game, etc. 1st game of a playoff series, random game in May for a last place team. Same thing. No you're right. All games are the same.

  18. Oh look, Dempster showing up small again. That never happens.
  19. I think they meant Padres AAA affiliate
  20. Agreed. Easily my all time favorite Cub (next to Ryno).
  21. Can't we just throw to first base after every single and have LaHair knock them off the bag? Dunn would be the only guy he's have a problem with. Steve Stone said it was a clean play. Steve Stone is also a colossal prick, so that makes sense. True story - he once sold a stereo to a female friend of mine in Arizona. At the conclusion of the transaction he solicited her for sex and when she declined he refused to sell her the stereo.
