  1. Tattoos, cars, and weed ain't cheap, bro.
  2. They just gave wade an and-1 after the ball went through the hoop. Oh, and he wasn't fouled either. NBA refs are the worst.
  3. Not a very diverse group of top prospects we've got.
  4. Collectively, yes. But the DB on full scholarship who never sees the field doesn't. So what should he be paid? Or are only the good players going to get a paycheck? Fine, pay the players. But then make them responsible for their own tuition, books, food, tutors, rent, etc... They will see real quickly how good of a deal they've already been getting.
  5. What are the "logical limits?" Unless all memorabilia sales have to go through a pre-approved middle man, then you have tattoo artists valuing Pryor's gold pants at 300K and the backup kicker's at 10 bucks. If you go through an NCAA-approved middle man, how is that any different than giving them a paycheck? It simply wouldn't be equitable, but that's life. In the Olympics, Usain Bolt and Michael Phelps are worth way more than their Polish counterparts. Pryor is worth more than the backup punter. As long as the university isn't paying them based on that, so be it. Why shouldn't Pryor be allowed to sell his image? But in the Olympics, the polish dude isn't free to compete for USA because they offer more lucrative deals.
  6. Or, they should all just follow the rules. Look, I was broke in college too. But then after a few years, I graduated and used my diploma to get a job that paid me money. Go figure. I still have a crap-ton of student loans though, Pryor and his teammates won't. They get to play a game they (presumably) love, enjoy fame and glory and hot 18-21 year old women and a great opportunity to one day make a lot of money professionally. If the NFL doesn't work out, there is a huge network of alumni who will no doubt get them a nice enough paying job, that is, if they aren't complete screwups. I also worked very hard in high school to get accepted to a good school. Athletes and their 2.0 GPAs get admitted right away and handed sweet class schedules usually reserved for upperclassmen. I have no sympathy for any athlete who complains they aren't compensated enough.
  7. I once tried to explain unwritten rules to my wife and she shrugged, rolled her eyes and asked why these rich, macho athletes are so sensitive. I couldn't answer.
  8. Pssst... In the past 7 years, Michigan (twice), Penn State (twice), Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin all played in BCS bowls. Edit: i now see you were talking about the "B10 berth", but still, osu had more at large berths than auto berths over the same time
  9. Only cute chicks, jackasses and people who get them for free drive Z's Fixed
  10. We should lock Barney up right now in a Longoria type deal. The guy is hitting over .300 after all!
  11. SPORTS ILLUSTRATED IS FULL OF MICHIGAN FANS WHO ARE OUT TO GET US!!!!! If OSU fans would just realize that them going on probation does no one in the Big Ten any good...of course it would seem that most fans of other Big Ten schools don't seem to realize this either You are right, as a Penn State fan, I hope Ohio State gets off scot-free because them not playing in bowl games or big televised games won't help the Big Ten any. In fact, I hope they continue to cheat and get away with it, because the Big Ten's image and profitability are the #1 and 2 priorities to me as a Penn State fan.... #-o
  12. 30-14 is pretty blatant and anybody that watches basketball would know that this series has been in favor of Miami all the way. It's to the point where the officials are affecting the outcome of the game directly. EDIT- It's not just the point totals that are affected but the momentum and the offensive rhythm are swayed as well. Look, I think refs suck too. I just think the argument is weak, and it's a pet peeve of mine. High school coaches complain about it. I mean, if team A travels 15 times a game, that doesn't mean team B should be called for some to "even it out". Travels and fouls are completely different. I mean I understand the Heat have 3 skilled position players....but we have a MVP player and he still struggles to get favorable calls on a contact drive. I guess it's just a fundamental issue I have. Some teams drive to the hoop more, some settle for jump shots. Some teams play great defense, other teams are just more physical around the rim. It isn't always 3 refs huddling up before the game saying, "okay, let's totally screw Chicago tonight. Let's get Miami on the lie twice as much." NBA refs are just that terrible.
  13. FT discrepancies are the lamest way to complain about basketball. Is there a rule that free throw attempts are supposed to be equal for both teams or something?
  14. And for the record, I'd like to see us go after someone like Chris Collins. Career assistant who probably wants to be a HC someday, and has instant recognition among recruits. Having his dad coaching the only NBA team in state can't hurt either. Immediate presence in a basketball city that Penn State can't seem to get into otherwise.
  15. Yes, Ed was eventually going to get fired just like the guy he replaced, Jerry Dunn. And like I've pointed out before, PSU has completely changed their hiring practices over the past 5 years. While before, the popular thought was that PSU doesn't fire coaches and even in the event of an open position, it always goes to someone in the "PSU family". That simply isn't true anymore. Starting in 2007: Women's BBall - fired Rene Portland, hired Coquese Washington (from Notre Dame) Men's LAX - fired Glenn Thiel, hired Jeff Tambourini (from Cornell) Wrestling - fired Troy Sunderland, hired Cael Sanderson (from Iowa St) Men's Soccer - Barry Gorman resigned, hired Bob Warming (from Creighton) Men's Hockey - could have promoted Icers coach Scott Balboni, instead hired Guy Gadkowsky (from Princeton) And soon you will see Penn State replace Baseball coach Robbie Wine... (just a hunch... ;) )
  16. Yeah, but looking back at that 1st round in 2000, aside from Baldelli(6), Utley(15) and Wainwright(29), its not like we missed out on much. Missing out on Utley is the definition of missing out on much.
  17. Well, you have to think Curley has a short list of viable candidates he will contact. All ADs should have some sort of idea, should something like this happen. It all comes down to how serious PSU will be at the negotiation table. Even though PSU basketball is one of the harder jobs out there, there are always head coaches at a mid major looking to move up or an assistant at at Big 6 school that wants to take on a head coaching gig. PSU just needs to convince them they are serious about putting a winner out there, and then prove it with their checkbooks. But it is Curley we are talking about, so yes, I can easily see him naming Kanaskie interim HC or whathaveyou, and blame the lateness of the opening on it. All I know, is you won't see a prediction out of me. ;)
  18. This is the textbook definition of "win-win" for both parties. Sure, he bolts a little late in the game. Hopefully though, PSU continues with the respectable coaching hires of the past decade (women's bball, wrestling, lax, soccer, hockey) and gets someone with some energy who can recruit.
  19. I thought everyone knew about PGD's.
  20. Maurice Clarett's tell-all with ESPN the Mag years back is looking more and more like College FB's version of the Jose Canseco book...
  21. Yeah guys, learn to read more and respect everyone's opinions! Insightful posts like "he still sucks" should be applauded, not derided! This is why we don't have nice things!
  22. That damned Sports Illustrated strikes again!!!!
  23. And the fact that he really hasn't been all that awesome yet this year.
