  1. With you-know-who lurking in third place right now. If the Cards make a run at the division again (due to crappy play by the Cubs and Brewers, moreso than the Cards ability to win), I'll puke.
  2. He has to be given access to the bathroom first. Murton is not allowed acess to anything. I've made up my mind, Murton pissed in Lou's cheerios. Maybe he thought Lou was into that kind of thing.
  3. He has to be given access to the bathroom first. I believe he's just been given the keys. The stalls have no TP.
  4. I like Murton, I think he's good and I have nothing against him - I'd like to see him do well. But, its getting to the point where he's got to sh&% or get off the pot. Since Sori's injury, there's more pressure for him to perform. If he can't get the job done, fine. Trade him. I believe his performance in the next few weeks will ultimately determine his future as a Cub (as in next year). Its fair to say we're in the middle of a pennant race and the kid gloves are off.
  5. He's getting called out on strikes on pitches he would swing at. Could he be doggin it until they get back home for a 7 game stretch?
  6. While I don't agree with the move for Pie (he and Cedeno are both impatient at the plate) - moving Hill to the pen rather than Marshall would be the way to go. I'm not sold on Hill. We should've dealt for pitching at the deadline.
  7. I'm not saying I believe Canseco, but until there is some kind of proof, everybody is open to suspicion. Every power hitter and power pitcher in this era will be suspect until they figure out a way to test players. While I agree that Canseco is a butthead, he's the reason congress had the steroid hearings. Whether you like him or not, he's more than willing to share his experiences with steroids in baseball. He played in TX w/ A-Rod (I think), it wouldn't surprise me if A-Rod's been juiced. Meanwhile, every player and their brother claims that the sport is clean and not discussing/addressing the real issues. Give me more guy like Canseco, he's at least addressing the issue (albeit with himself to benefit). Until the players union agree to similar drug testing like cycling (blood test, not urine), steroids will be prevalent.
  8. If Pie and Murton are involved in getting Griffey AND we cannot sign Big Z. Beyond this year doesn't look good. I still am hoping Pie is CF'er of the future w/ Murton as well. Call me dumb.
  9. I thought Pena's defense was not so good and he is a strikeout machine. Santana's not going anywhere - LAA would ask way too much for him.
  10. How exactly do you go about replacing Hill? He's a top 20-40 starter in the game under team control for the forseeable future. Wow, that is a bold statement. I think that that this is wildly untrue but I would be happy to listen to you prove it. THe jury's still out on Hill. He has yet to demonstrate that he can pitch consistently year over year. No stamina. If trading Hill is all it will take to get Salty, get Salty.
  11. No it doesn't. Not for Cubs fans living around obnoxious Cards fans who seem to make a smart a#* remark about Wood or Prior everytime the Cubs come up in conversation. I'm openly excited about this and not assamed of that one bit. Especially after reading TT's post about how they have $30 million guaranteed next year to basically deadweight. Don't forget that the Cards fans are the most knowledgebale baseball fans in the entire world. Nothing like seeing the cards waste payroll on aging oft-hurt players (Edmonds, Rolen).
  12. it was getting so bad, I was hoping for more losses just to see it happen to the cards and larussa
  13. Doesn't Chocago already have a Dukes-type player in Tank Johnson? No Tanks.
  14. Tear it down!
  15. This squad is a joke. Until they win 15 of 20 games, then I might take them serious. But now? No way. Cub fans in general cannot be die hard and be serious about it. They just lost a series to the worst team in the AL and people on this board are still talking like a big win streak is just right around the corner. Ain't gonna happen, not gonna do it (Dana Carvey foing GH Bush). We got the Cards fighting and clawing for W's with half a line up - and the Cubs? Where is the team we heard was going to score all these runs, we were told its an AL line up. My a#$ it is! Lou Piniella will be gone after next year, he'll either be fired or quit. Either way, he will not complete his 3 year deal.
  16. Bingo! You're the best caller of the show. End of story, no deal.
  17. Both teams will/have already been warned about today. What will happen if Maddux 75mph pitch some how gets a way from him, hits a Cub on the shin? Will Maddux be ejected?
  18. I was concerned earlier this year that because we hadn't signed Z to an extension, that we would get screwed by not trading him by 7/31 and then not re-signing him (due to new ownership) and get nothing in return. After yesterday's fiasco, Z will definitely be moved and ensures that we'll get at least a couple of good prospects/every day players in return. Even though yesterday looked bad, teams are still ready and willing to deal for Z.
  19. You lose.
  20. Watching this team is brutal. Turn to CSN in about 20 minutes to watch the Sox/Aardsma walk in the final run vs. the Twinkies. That should make you feel better.
  21. The Cubs are a gimmick. Have been and will continue to be. Too many examples to cite.
  22. I'd like to see MLB managed like the NFL or WADA. Too bad the MLBPA is the strongest existing union. For those of us hoping for stricter policies and tighter drug control, we're dreaming.
  23. On paper, this team looks great....but we just haven't had consistent pitching/hitting. We expect to get off to a fast start...but we're waiting for our bats to heat up. We've heard all the excuses before, from several other managers. I think Lou is finding that it is difficult to win as a Cub. He's no different than all the others we've seen come and go. Like Dusty, he'll be run out of town - I predict he won't finish his 3 year deal and be gone after next year. Get rid of Wrigley - people gasp when this is brought up, but the truth is - people come in flocks whether it be corporate or post-graduate fans. No doubt its a great time, but when the organization markets Wrigley Field as a separate entity than the Cubs, you know that win or lose, people will have a great time. The continued SRO crowds (until Sept.) contribute to the players mindset - "hey, we lost but the fans backed us 100%" means I can take a day off even if I'm in the lineup. We've seen the countless FA's come here and take a big #2, only to find their careers re-invigorated post-Cubs. The Cubs will win just enough to suck people back into thinking the'll make a run (winning 7 of 8 recently), and then proceed to lose the next 3 of 4 - negating the positive ground they made up. The Cubs are predicatbaly bad. They are a gimmick in the city, the NL Central and MLB. Yes, I am a fan, but am tired of the inconsistency.
