  1. Now we just need to go after Paul Byrd as the #5.
  2. I've talked to a few Cards fans, and they speak of him as the second coming (thats what she said). I hope he signs w/ the Cards for a 3 year bloated deal.
  3. I guess it would be a good thing for the Cubs and extremely horrible for the Bucs. Go get em Bucs!
  4. From a baseball talent perspective, Theriot reminds me of a lesser David Eckstein. From a baseball PR/fan love perspective, Theriot reminds me of a lesser Mark DeRosa
  5. The player I would love on my team would be Hanley Ramirez. I doubt Florida would do thins knowing their payroll is extremely low, but I'd love to find a way to get him on the Cubs.
  6. Regardless of the ongoing talks with other teams, if the Cubs are sure Bradley won't be on the team next year (trade/released) - to get their $22M worth - Hendry should continue to tell Bradley and his agents they plan to keep him - just to play w/ his head.
  7. Guys...thanks
  8. To help pass the off-season, I'm trying to read baseball related books (most recently "Luckiest Man" about Lou Gehrig). Sometimes the sports books can be real cheesy, so I'm looking for good recs. Any suggestions/recommendations?
  9. Once new ownership takes over...there will be alot of changes. Hendry - out Payroll - significantly reduced
  10. Soto's gunning the ball back to Marquis like he's pissed. Maybe Jason will figure it out.
  11. Will Soto get a steady diet of breaking balls? (yes)
  12. Mark Kotsay? I'm too lazy to spell it correctly. Nice play Hall.
  13. I was just down there this weekend and thats all they were talking about. Apparently, the other big news is that a major food chain store is opening un in downtown. The economy is putting a kibash on the ballpark village. The all star game in 2009 will look really bad.
  14. Once opposing pitchers learned he couldn't hit the deuce, he saw a steady diet of these. Until he can't hit offspeed pitches, he'll either be in the minors or eventually out of baseball in 2 years.
  15. I honestly thought this was a joke. I'd hate to be a bucs fan.
  16. http://www.thesmokinggun.com/mugshots/leyritzmug1.html
  17. ARod/Boras are floating a 262 million dollar number around. That is EXACTLY twice as much as the higest paid athlete in sports. According to Keith Olberman. Olberman's an indiot.
  18. Sounds like Byrd is playing dumb here. The fact that Shapiro never knew about his "condition" sounds suspicious - plus the fact that it was prescribed by a dentist (come on!). Sad to hear, he's just like all the others - he'll deny it until he's blue in the face (like Ankiel). I heard an interview with him this past summer and he spoke about his religious beliefs and how it has made him a better player/person etc..., but reading this article tells me he's just as bad, if not worse (using religion) than the rest. Its too bad.
  19. I'll take Tejada if he promises to go on PED's and get back to the form he was 3 years ago. Otherwise, NO.
  20. FWIW, Bruce Levine said on Talking Baseball on Sat. that an announcement will be coming within a week. Mgmt. is said to approve the makeover worth $2M. They may lower the field by a foot or two which would allow for some new front row seating. Yes, the Sodfather will be doing the job.
  21. If Dusty spreads the magic powder in the outfield - like he did at Wrigley - before games, this may turn out to be a great year for the Reds.
  22. see ya, Lou. my biggest HOPE is that Piniella is replaced by Girardi... Why? So, that we can return to being an also-ran in the NL Central? return? laughable. you must have missed that whole 'playoff run' this year. 'also-ran' is a complimentary term when used here. obviously you like the managing and performance of this team as it stands. sorry, i simply do not. Girardi is one of the sharpest baseball minds in the game, and a true leader who bleeds Blue. see Marlins. Florida. 2006... So, you give Lou no credit for getting us to the playoffs, but yet put full blame on him because Ramirez/Lee/Soriano magically forgot how to hit? Right, that makes sense. And yes, return makes perfect sense. Last year we were last place, this year we were in first. Thus, return. And what the hell does "see Marlins. Florida. 2006.." mean What am I supposed to see? A sub-.500 team who finished in 4th place? While I like Girardi, I'm not sure he would've guided us to the win the division this year.
