  1. Also banned on inbound flights (those returning to STL). AM590 is saying some players are already complaining about these new policies. Whatever. Here's hoping the Cards keep losing. Has anyone mentioned the association of drinking/pot with the 4 players Hancock was supposed to meet later that night? I think it was Edmonds, Kennedy and 2 more players.
  2. This is bad news. If alcohol is related, you gotta think this makes TLR think even more about his dui incident earlier in the year.
  3. Good. Unless the Cubs can not pay him ace money, I don't want him. It's very strange, but I find myself more excited about the potential to trade Zambrano for some high-end prospects than anything else about the Cubs' season. The sad part about that is that they probably wont even attempt to trade him and he will walk at the end of the year with us having gotten nothing for him. :( Is a possible scenario that we trade Big Z by the deadline for 2 high prospects (either pitcher or fielder). Big Z doesn't like the team he gets traded to, realizes that he'd like a reprieve w/ the Cubs and we re-sign him. Can this happen? Has it happended before?
  4. The Cubs rattled off 5-7 W's in a row, lost a couple, then another winning streak of 5-7 games? I honestly can't recall even when they went on a crazy win streak. What I'm getting at is - the team as it currently stands, doesn't appear capable of a long winning streak. And therefore, how good is this team (not only in the NL but compared to the AL as well? Not very.
  5. Eww, I think we can do without Zaun. Any other trade that gets rid of Jones sounds good to me. Though, I wouldn't really consider us at a crossroads. I don't understand why we would want Zaun if we already have 2 catchers? Whats the reason we get Zaun? The double ZZ battery of Zambrano/Zaun?
  6. "We all"??? I'm with Danny. I don't think Marquis performance this year is predetermined. Is he going to be a Cy Young candidate, probably not. Can he be an incredibly valuable asset to our pitching staff if he maintains some sense of focus? You betcha. Sell high on Marquis if you can replace the performance, but if you can't, it'd be pretty stupid if we're competing. Aren't there some rules about trading a recently signed FA in the same year he signed? Unless I'm wrong.
  7. This may have been brought up before, but... if Wade continues to struggle, packaging Wade and J Jones for prospects and the 5th spot to Guzman. A team would be getting 2 every day players (well 1 and a pitcher). I recall hearing Miller would request a trade if he's sent to AAA.
  8. who have both won multiple titles since 1917. The Cubs, White Sox, and Red Sox make it 3 teams who have had ridiculously long droughts. 3 is a pretty significant number, especially when over the majority of those years there were far fewer teams in the majors. While the Cubs' drought seems almost too absurd, it hasn't been a fluke occurrence in MLB. okay, since 1945, the red sox have appeared in 5 world series, the white sox, 2. "strange things continue to happen at wrigley field." i don't know why it's so hard to at least admit that there's something strange about all of it, even if you don't believe in curses. And if the Cubs win in the next 10 years, does that mean that there was no curse or that the curse was broken? WS appearances are great and all, but the only thing that counts is the championship. And there were three teams that went through droughts that you would think would be of impossible length. The only strange thing going on at Wrigley is the long, long history of incompetent management. But that's what happens when you've only had a handful of people running the team over the past 90 years. reminds me of a simpson's line for some reason: "there's no mystery about willie. why, he simply disappeared." you seriously haven't noticed anything weird concerning this run of bad luck? as i said, bad management or not, they should have been able to back into the world series since 1945 at some point. hell, the brewers have been to a WS since then. what do the simpsons have to do w/ anything?
  9. i've always believed that if the cubs moved, they would win. wrigley is cursed. i've always believed that curses were reserved for children's fair tales and greek mythology maybe someday there will be some sort of physical explanation for the inordinate amount of misfortune that has befallen the chicago cubs, maybe "curse" will be understood as simply the power of attention, of thought, and it's effect on the environment. there have been successful tests proving that electrons behave differently when observed. even a very, very poorly run team should have lucked itself into a WS by now. call that what you will, but it's certainly strange. as for "curses" being a word that's muttered when things don't go your way, well, not much has gone the cubs' way in the last century--in fact, anything that could go wrong has gone wrong for them. you'd like to think that similar things happen to other teams, but they don't, they just don't. I know...Al Gore can come up with a definition for curses! After all, he did invent the internet and most recently diagnose global warming.
  10. Which is why my daughters first game will be at Miller Park to see the Brewers. My wife thinks I'm crazy b/c I will not allow any Cubs clothes be given to our new born.
  11. Ervin Santana + blue chip prospect + mid level prospect? That would kick ass. So would Billingsley + Betemit + Elbert. Not that I'm actually suggesting trading Z, but it wouldn't be the first time. I think I suggested it twice last season and once during the offseason on this board. Its an option that the longer he goes w/o re-signing, becomes more of a reality. I'm for it.
  12. Talk about frustrating, seems like Chubs find new ways to lose every game...you can almost predict it (I actually did today after the score was 5-0). The Cubs have been the laughing stock of MLB for years (99 to be exact) and throwing money at the problem will not fix it (see Yankees). Sweet Lou is going to find out how tough it is to win at Wrigley, he has no idea what he's in for. He'll be gone after next year. Wrigley's a dump, blow it up and move the team to Schaumburg.
  13. Prediction: Mark Prior somehow ends up w/ the Cards after 2008 and Duncan turns him into the Prior of 2003. I would hate to see this happen. W/ Cubs luck, it will.
  14. I don't read your posts, yet I enjoy looking at the picture of the girl. Just had to get that out.
  15. . even if he is finished pitching in the majors, i think kerry wood has long past the stage of having to ever work again to earn a living. I doubt it. Very few people can hold on to that kind of money, and even that large of a principle can go much faster than people think. I'd love the opportunity to have all that money and prove you wrong!
  16. The reality is...Kerry will be healthy again and come up. Get hurt, go back on the DL. And away we go again... Kerry's arm/shoulder cannot put up with the everyday strain of pitching. Prediction: he will retire at the end of the year. Next job (as Stoney predicted): selling cars. I don't question his heart, but physically - he's done. Maybe he can drive the Cubs Caravan bus next year?
  17. All I remember about Hill is that he's a small guy and spends WAYYY too much time in between pitches while at bat. He drove me nuts. Its either him or Terry-O. I'll take Terry-O.
  18. $13 million over 2 years guaranteed for a guy with a sugically repaired shoulder sounds like a bit of a gamble. Then again, Mulder isn't really an overpowering pitcher, so maybe it will work out for the Cards. I hope not.
  19. The Royals are obviously not riske averse.
  20. Thanks. I'll be sure to go there again next Sunday and after any b-ball game he does of fox for therapy.
  21. ....I can't stand. He drives me crazy. Sorry, just had to get it out.
  22. I hope the Cards re-sign all their FA's - overpay and live to regret it. By like others say in the post, "this is just my opinion".
  23. The biggest bust - Fonzi Soriano. I predict a slow start and the boos to follow. He and we will have to withstand the pressure for 8 LONG years. He'll realize the pressure that comes along with the albatross contract and want out in 3 years, guaranteed. GMJ to follow as the next biggest bust.
