    Would you do it? Chris DeLuca thinks so. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/deluca/600127,CST-SPT-deluca12.article If Lou wanted out, the Cubs would have to strongly consider it. W/ 2 years left on his contract - and depending how bad Steinbrenner wants Lou, we'd be able to get at least one major leaguer (Cano, Cabera) and 2 good, young prospects. Or is this just BS. Since it happended before, it could happen again.

    I'd like to see the Cubs and Sox work out a deal where they pool money together to land ARod. He then commits to only play home games for the Cubs/Sox and never has to leave Chicago while also playing both NL/AL teams. Anyone think the union would go for this?

    The 24 year old who has murdered the ball over 2 half seasons in AAA where he's age appropriate. I don't deny that this is pretty much make or break time for Ronny as a prospect. He'll be 25 next year, and I believe out of options. I wouldn't let him prevent me from trading for a Renteria or Tejada(which my gut tells me the Cubs will do), but if no upgrade is made at SS, and we run out Theriot at SS on opening day instead of Ronny, I'm going to be pissed. Point well taken.

    Please notice that the only team mentioned in the NL Central is the Brewers. The Cubs will continue to be contenders in the NL Central with the Brewers and what happens in the playoffs is always a crapshoot. This year's playoffs proved that again. So, if the Cubs can win the Central it doesn't matter which is the best team (on paper). Crap and shoot is about right. Thats only the NL teams mentioned, if you want, we can list the AL's as well. The 06 Cards winning was one in a million and it will always be something that is referred to when talking about an underdog. I'd rather not be the underdog. Okay, how bout the '05 White Sox, the '03 Marlins, the '02 Angels, the '01 Diamondbacks as far as the best team not winning it all. Don't get me wrong I hate the "contend within the division" mantra that had become Cubs standard for the better part of my life, but to pretend that underdogs never win it all is foolish. But, this IS the Cubs we are talking about. We'll either be the underdog and win the hearts of all rooting for us, or we'll be the favorites and choke. I realize I just contradicted myself entirely, but I guess I can't figure these guys out.

    Ronny Cedeno. Thank you. I was thinking it, but didn't want to come out and say it. :lol: Which Ronny are you talking about - no disciplined Ronny swinging for the fences when with the Cubs, or AAA Ronny who is focused and doing the little things right? The one I've seen drives me nuts at the plate.

    Yes, we blew a great opportunity. Milwaukee, Colorado and Arizona has been mentioned for next year, but don't forget about the remaining NL teams who also will be better LA Dodgers, NY Mets, San Diego and Atlanta to name some.

    So, we'll overpay (either in dollars or prospects or both) to obtain one of these 2? Knowing the payroll situation (back loaded salaries) and ownership in flux - how realistic of a possibility is this? I would guess not much. Which is why I pose the question.

    Much talk on the NSBB is that the most glaring offensive need is the Cubs upgrading at either/or RF and SS. Much of the talk is acquiring Renteria or Tejada. My question is - why these 2? Both are on the wrong side of 30 and the possibility of a decline in performance is to be expected over the next couple of years. They've had good careers, but I don't think these guys are the answer - the Cubs would be getting players beyond their prime. Are there other SS options available (ie. similar to an ARamirez type player - young, good) that we could get? Someone under contract with a team with a surplus of talent may be interested in young pitchers with similar contract situations (Marshall, Cherry, Hart, etc..). I don't have the answer, but just asking.

    Like I said, teams like the Dodgers may be willing to deal the younger players like Ethier, Loney, etc.. for ARam. DLee's power is gone - remember the Grace days? Big deal, he's now a singles hitter - which we do not need. Brewers are going to be tough for a long time coming - we are going to get old fast.

    Well, they didn't disappoint. The Cubs played to their reputations as losers. THey showed absolutely NO fire, No killer instinct. The window of opportunity just closed - look no further tha the 07 Bears - when given the opportunity in the post seasone, you MUST elevate your game to a higher level. The Cubs missed this point, as usual (Aramis - where are you?). So, on to next year. Milwaukee gets stronger and should be the favorites to win the division. THey are young and unafraid. The Cubs get older w/ Lee, Ramirez, Howry etc... The new owner should take a look at the Dbacks, Rockies, Brewers (Marlins in 03) - and see that going youg is not a bad thing. I'm for trading Aram, Lee, you name it - for top tier prospects.

    I don't understand your point. I thought its a forgone conclusion that he'll opt out no matter what. Teams who are interested in him know the price tag will be $30M/year, and they probably wont put too much emphasis on his post season disappointments. FTR, I do not think the Cubs will pursue him (due to ownership change/hold up and overall payroll).

    Guiluli!!!! Do you mean Jeff Gillooly? I'm all for it. Yeah that's the hoser. I guess I tried to fancy up his name with a wacky "European" spelling. Anybody got his number (phone or inmate)? I vote for the Ligue family to go after Braun. Father & Son duo w/ matching tattoos (and rap sheets).

    This would be less of a mess if the commissioner of baseball, as it was initially intended, was an unbiased 3rd party with no ties to either the players or ownership.

    His 2003 season alone makes him worth every penny the Cubs have paid him to date. He doesn't owe the Cubs anything. With that said, I'd be interested in a Wood-type incentive based deal and I think Prior might take it. I could be wrong, but he's under the property of the Cubs for 2 more years. His contract can only go down a certain percentage (someone mentioned 20% earlier) by rules. Therefore, he cannot sign to a Wood-type contract of $1M + incentives.

    I'd rather have Carlos Lee than Soriano. From that standpoint, it was a bad signing.

    I predict Ricky will fall into a funk again and run to third base rather than first after a hit.
