  1. With the orginazation saying they aren't going for any "big names", wouldn't Girardi be considered "big name" at this point since he got the "big job" with the yankees? I think we can forget about Girardi.
  2. Yeah I feel that way. With Hendry apparently intent on making moves to make us "competitive" next year instead of rebuilding entirely. I think Dunn will be a #1 priority, and I'm fine with that. Dunn would fit in nicely here. With players like Dunn, Ramirez, Soto, Byrd, and Soriano you've got a potential really nice middle of the order. And ofcourse the excitement of Castro continuing to grow. I'm not sure I'd go after Cliff Lee I'm more interested in bringing Dunn over and seeing what Hendry can come up with Pitching wise. I mean if you are just going to "wait out" contracts like Ramirez, Zambrano, ect. Might as well sign Dunn to a 4 year. Dunn at 4 years will not be an albatross contract so it won't hamper us much 4 years from now and would make us better now.
  3. Get Dunn this offseason (as long as it's not overpaying), then you've got your starting 1st baseman for the chicago cubs for the next 4 years. Don't risk missing out and then wishing you would have signed Dunn when you had the chance.
  4. it means the FO is dissapointed in the vets. If it was worded disappointment FROM, and not with it would be the other way around.
  5. I'm not one to buy a Jersey but I think a Castro one would be a good investment.
  6. The Cubs situation (with some of the large contracts) you just Keep Aram hope he has a good year next year. Let him play out his contract and hope he contributes. I just don't see much chance moving him this year.
  7. I like Jim Edmonds wish he was still a Cub. But I guess Byrd hasn't been to bad at CF either.
  8. I'm glad to hear Everybody Loves the Cubs is alot of people's favorite.
  9. This year's is "This Town" by O.A.R. I don't have a super-clean version of last year's like what you've posted, but I'd be happy to capture it from one of last year's broadcasts and upload it if you like. Yes I would really like that. That's exactly what I think.
  10. Come on now. Us Cubs fans need to stop overvaluing our mid level prospects or above average players as these top players teams are gonna want for their TOP top players. And isn't he a FA soon? Either SD wants him and will extend him, or they don't and if they don't they are gonna sure as hell want Castro + a couple other top guys like Vitters, and Cashner types before they'd answer the phone.
  11. Because the majority of people who sing it have absolutely no relation to the cubs. It's ok if some chicago actor who happens to be a cubs fan sings it, that makes sense to me. But every tom dick and dumbass that happens to be famous doesn't need to come to OUR town, and sing OUR song. Yeah yeah I know, it's not "our" song. But I would rather have Santo sing it than some actor from california that doesn't that had to be driven to wrigley in a limo because they sure as hell couldn't find it themselves.
  12. What I see is. . 1B) Maybe go all out for Gonzolex or stopgap 2B) Dewitt (this was a decent move young and cheap and slight upgrade) SS) Castro 3B) Ramirez C) Soto LF) Soriano CF) Byrd RF) Colvin (I think they will trade Fukudome this winter). SP) Zambrano SP) Wells SP) Gorzelanny SP) Silva SP) One of our promising young guys Overall I just think Hendry will not be allowed to make stupid moves. Overpaying for relievers and mediocre players to long term contracts is over. I don't think Ricketts will let him do that. However I wouldn't be surprised if he is allowed to make a big move for a BONIFIED great player like Gonzalez.
  13. I was searching for this years because I honestly want to understand what the singer is saying. "Come on now and take this crowd"? or something like that. I found some of the more recent ones. My favorite I think is everybody loves the cubs. Here's a link with some soundbites. http://www.tukaiz.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=77&Itemid=44 If anybody can find the recent two (the one this year and then that god awful country take me out to the BAWLgaime). I'd like to hear them.
  14. No I believe he was talking about Fontenot. As for me I want them to stick Dewitt at 2B and see what he can do the rest of the season. 2B has been a rotating door for us the last couple of seasons since Derosa was traded and I'm looking foward to some stability and someone we can call our starting second baseman.
  15. So is Dewitt our fulltime 2B now or is he gonna share time with Fontenot? I like this trade, if only for the fact to see someone else at 2B for awhile. I always get excited when we get new players so I'll probably be watching a few games just to see our new 2B.
  16. I'm interested in Brett Jackson but I don't follow the minor leagues. He's an outfielder right? Could someone shed some light on his recent #'s and what he might project to in the majors? I'd be really interested and thankful for the rundown.
  17. LOL. In fairness, he obviously had no clue who he was looking at. But it illustrates Beck's way of thinking pretty succinctly, doesn't it. No ofcourse not. It's the cancerous "progressives" that want that.
  18. because everyone wants to overpay for our crap/mediocre players. Pay attention man.
  19. Hendry sucks, please stop defending him. Let him go man, let him go.
  20. Can't say being able to live in Japan and play the game you love and get paid well is all that bad. Sure MLB didn't work out for him but I'd kill to be in his shoes. I love Japan.
  21. The simple matter of fact is, we're screwed. No one wants any of our crap players, and we have crap players, with a tiny few exceptions. Unfortunately we don't have a nice little core of really young players to build around, and don't really have any "big time" pick ups for contending teams. Save maybe 1 or 2. So in other words, there is no way to fix this in just the time span of one year.
  22. I don't think we get Bosh and Wade without Deng going away in some manner. All I got to say about that is. . . DENG!
  23. So in other words (in terms for building the team for the future) Tyler Colvin is one of the few guys that we could actually sell high on?
  24. I want to see a Taiwanese American named Dick Wang.
  25. Can I say I want them to suck too? I can understand dexter's point. If they are going to be bad this year (and I think they deffinatly are), then might as well be so embarassingly bad that MAYBE that will FORCE major changes. I mean in the eye of the "common" Cubs fan. Rickett's would almost have to make a statement by letting go of Hendry and Lou and bringing in some new people to make (hopefully better) descisions for the future of the cubs. If we just have a terrible year it makes it easier to say "Look we are going to make some big changes", than it would if we have a SLIGHTLY above average or below average year. This would be a really good year to suck because we might actually see some POSITIVE changes for the Cubs.
