  1. In our minor leagues? I know about the last couple of years and the big names like Vitters, Colvin, and so on. And I do remember us adding a guy that was supposedly really good with minor league talent. Tim Wilken was it? I'm really excited about some of the players I am hearing about but could someone give me the quick laymen overview of the few big improvements that were made in the last few years? And when did we get Starlin Castro? Now I'm hearing this young man has jumped to our #1 prospect, but someone like me who doesn't pay attention except for AA and above he kinda snuck in on me (as I'm sure many more in the future will).
  2. I am interested to see if any changes will be made at 2nd base. And what our outfield will look like. I think I'd rather just keep bradley and improve elsewhere with a few key trades (without giving up too much of our promising new farm :P).
  3. I say the best thing Hendry could do (grabow was not a great move but atleast it's not a long term move that could really hinder the cubs like the bradley fiasco), is to keep bradley, trade a few minor pieces for some decent talent to fill holes, and don't go trading away the best of our farm and focus more on the next several years of building a good team long term. Having said that he will spend the rest of our budget and probably trade one or two top pieces for a semi big name that will underperform. Hopefully he gets fired after that.
  4. Would anybody not be completely dissapointed if we just kept Bradley and let him play right field? His #'s weren't that bad just a lack of homers and time heals all wounds. Who knows maybe Bradley could have a really good year next year. Wouldn't you want him doing that for the Cubs instead of on our tab for someone else?
  5. I'm just curious any new rumors as the most likely player who might come in to trade bradley (or even one of our own)? I'd rather the Cubs focus on the minors, now is not the time to spend. I'm assuming opening day position players are as follows C Soto 1B Lee 2B SS Theriot 3B Ramirez LF Soriano CF RF Fukudome I hessitate to say Fontenot at 2nd because of his bad year this year. But I assume he might still be likely. So we will only be chaning 1, MAYBE 2 position players. Anyone want to do some guessing? I have no clue because I haven't followed the offseason this year.
  6. That seems to be the plan. He wants to have a young homegrown core of impact players like the Bosox have with Youkilis, Pedroia, Lester, and Papelbon. But he's also said we're going to continue to have a big payroll, so I'm sure once the current crop of big contracts runs out if a superstar comes into free agency in a position of need we should be in the mix. Hopefully Soto and Marmol bounce back and at least two of Vitters/Castro/Lee/BJackson/Cashner/JJackson work out like we hope so that we can have that good young core to build around. Yeah, any hope of winning with this core is pretty much over. Which is a shame because I really like guys like Lee and Ramirez. However I do look foward to a new face of the Cubs with Ricketts and also some new star faces in the next few years. Cause as much as I like a few of them, frankly I'm tired of this core.
  7. Worry about keeping the best of the best. And if you can get some really good young talent, you can let one of your better guys go. I vote for the conservative route. I say it's time to start focusing on making this a solid team. Which could take a few years but that's ok. Don't sign anyone to any more super large overpaid contracts just because you can (cough soriano cough).
  8. I didn't like losing Derosa because I wanted them to go all out last year. Since it didn't work out that way I can eat my words now. I would like to see more moves like this and no more large contracts or overpaying mediocrity for the next several years. Hopefully with Ricketts, this will be a focus. That's how you build a good team, deal players for young talent. Build your farm. And when you have the money and a really good player comes along, you go for it. But you don't waste it on crap.
  9. Well I've been away for awhile. And I see Hendry is doing the same stupid things. I've had it with Hendry. I don't expect much from the Cubs next year and for many more until alot of these backloaded craptastic contracts Hendry gave away expire. This isn't exciting. I want to be excited about Cubs baseball. And I can't, because we have a stupid GM that doesn't even have a plan. And does not know how to spend money wisely (boy is that the understatement of the century). I hope the Cubs suck ass next year and Hendry gets the boot. This team needs to start focusing on the farm and stop paying mediocre players to large contracts. I'm so sick of this.
  10. I like this guy. It's not just because he won today, but because of his good first year, and good #'s in the minors leading up to when we got him. I doubt we'll beable to sign Lilly after his contract is up so it's nice to have another lefty option for the rotation. A decent young one at that. Yes I know we've got Marshall. But I feel Gorzelanny has just a bit more potential than Marshall. Plus I'm a sucker for new Cubbies. :D)
  11. so the carindals won also. Hey our new cubbie did great let's just be really happy about that.
  12. I think I am starting to love Wisconsin. Only because if I move there I can light off fireworks without the pigs telling me I'm a felon and stealing $1000 worth of fireworks on top of a $50 fine.
  13. Maybe if there is another 1 run lead in the 9th go with someone like guzman? I don't know if I trust Marmol in the 9th, atleast not right now. Or just stick Gregg out there again. He has 2 straight bad days, I remember Dempster doing that in 2008 and they didn't release him did they.
  14. Yeah, this is a slight improvement without really giving up anything important. Good move, and I like it. Even if we couldn't make a big move it's always fun to get some new players to cheer for isn't it?
  15. Pffft, you clearly haven't heard of a young guy named David Patton have you? Helloooo? Aaron FREAKIN Miles!?!?
  16. Your not going to get anything for Miles, not even a bag of balls. The only possible move is to simply DFA him.
  17. You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. Why? Just cause he complimented u? [-X
  18. That doesn't mean he wasn't really smart. Couldn't he have really good command, movement, AND be a very smart pitcher? I don't see why not.
  19. As a Cubs fan, please guys stop trying to downplay this. You put Holliday back to back with Pujols, that's significant. I know all you Cubs fans are doing your best to downplay it. But you sound the same as all those Cardinal fans in those years when we made a big move by the deadline. It just sounds jealous and petty.
  20. Carlos Zambrano was 1 walk away from a perfect game. Oh and more signifigant to me, the cardinals lost yesterday and play again tonite.
  21. I'm shocked (and pleased) we were actually going after Sanchez. Because if so, in a way, Hendry admits it was wrong to get rid of Derosa (a good RH) just to get (a weaker) LH. Because it essentially replaces a LH batter (fontenot) with a RH batter (Sanchez). And I didn't think Hendry would do that, so I'm suprised, but happy.
  22. Grand Slam actually - http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN200808280.shtml That's right. His home run pose on that was epic. Any video links of that? Would love to see it.
  23. Don't forget about the passion, fire and grit. You guys like to make fun of it. But when a team loses they lose heart. And when they score runs it usually leads to more runs. Why? Cause they are human, and *GASP*, have human emmotions.
  24. They boo'd Hairston Jr. and other sucky players that played during that time because it reminded them of the sucky dusty baker era. End of story.
