  1. I fear that he's an old school sac bunter. But I don't know that. And I don't loathe him. My beef is with people who try to use his Chicagoness as a reason why he'd be a good manager. Has he done that alot in Florida this year? What would you think about Bob Brenly as cubs skipper? He's atleast gone on record stating the importance of OBP in a good line-up.
  2. Yikes, anyone know a way to record this aside from tapes? I'd like to record this for later listening on a long trip I am taking. .
  3. I'm guardedly optomistic from some of the same reasons. -Doesn't look like Pierre is going to be back -Jones might not want to be here and might make that known -Some of those players you named like Bynum, ect I think Dusty had ALOT of say in getting players like that -I've never heard MacPhail say clearly "It's time to win the World Series for these fans" -I think the Tribune has the resources and understands that if they don't make some POSITIVE CHANGES (IE: raise payroll, have true comitment to winning the WS) then they will jeopordize their relationship with the fans. I think after this season they realize they HAVE to win now. So yes I will remain guarded. But MacPhail and Dusty are gone. And either Brenly or Girardi would be a huge improvement over Baker. If you get someone like Brenly in there who knows the importance of OBP, maybe HE can have some say in who Hendry gets in the off-season. .
  4. Oh god! 'Tis the season of "My friend who is on the inside tells me" or the famous "My sister-husbands-uncle-knows a person...". Why do these post always come from first time posters? I call it bogus... So do I, but Serena's post is encouraging. .
  5. That would have disaster written all over it. Since McDonough is the interim president, and he's the one apparantly enamored with Stone, my guess is he's in-line for a job under president, but I doubt the Trib would put the entire organization under Stone's control, given his complete lack of any business success. I can't imagine the Cubs would be that stupid. Steve Stone has said he does not want to have anything to do with the business side of baseball. If anything, Mcdunough might have just been getting some advice, or possibly talking about steves interest in coming back to the booth, if brenly gets a manager job.
  6. Unless the prospective new buyer gave them the go ahead. AHAAA!!! Boy do I love the speculative banter here at NSBB sometimes. :D
  7. Joke all you want. But a new manager who is strict and who is not "a buddy" will preach hustle and not tolerate mistake and excuses. It's just this "sentiment" of playing the game a certain way can help to get MORE out of your players. Same thing in a work force. You are going to work harder if you have a boss who is a "means business" type of boss. And I don't mean in a bad way. I mean in a way where he expects results and you respect him for that and work harder. Haven't we all seen that this team has been underacheiving for years? Dusty Baker was a big part in that in how he managed his ballclub. And I don't mean we shouldn't go out and get some offensive and pitching upgrades either. Doesn't anyone agree with me here, even a little?
  8. Good, let their loss be our gain. They just fired him because he wouldn't take the owner yelling at umps. That deffinatly doesn't put any bad marks on Girardi in my book.
  9. Um well. Florida just hired Gonzalez so why can't we hire Girardi?
  10. Well supposedly Mcdunough and Girardi are both supposed to appear on WGN radio some time tonite during kap and waddle. So perhaps Hendry didn't really mean it about his "extensive" search. I'm not dissapointed if his choice was Girardi. .
  11. True. There is still larry deirker and razor shines out there though. But even though Hendry said his search will be "long and extensive" it's not such a bad thing for it to be QUICK either. Haha maybe he saw how fast Florida got Freddie G. and thought Uh Oh, better operate quicker.
  12. WGN Oh, let me say to myself. DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)
  13. I'm sorry if we don't beleive someone with 1 post claims to have a source and who is now going to be fired. Sounds too much like the banter over at cubs.com.
  14. What? Are you implying they are gonna announce on THE SCORE of all things that they hired Girardi? When did they say this because I've been listening to it. Not saying you lied I might just not be listening closely.
  15. I do too. But just because one half could happen doesn't mean the other half won't start happening. .
  16. OK, goony..... but are we discussing the pro's and con's of Joe Girardi..... or are we discussing "What is people's fascination with Girardi about?" ? Well, the thread is about what people's fascination is, and his ties to the Cubs is part of the answer to that question. I'm just reiterating that it should not play a role. Serena is absolutely right in her breakdown of what people are thinking about Girardi. What's your beef with Joe Girardi. You speak as if you honestly loathe the guy.
  17. I was listening to Murph. According to him, there are "rumors" the Cubs are raising payroll (and not just the 30m off the books from past players). He says, Stone thinks it, Mr. Miles thinks it. Now I don't usually get hyped over "rumors" but he mentioned the always credible Mr. Miles. Has there been any other rumblings of this in newspapers or other stations?
  18. This will be my new avatar when dusty leaves. . http://blog.bibrik.com/archives/Confetti.jpg
  19. I agree. I like Murton Theroit also. These 2 are quality guys who can provide really nice OBP while being paid minium. Also Murton's power could improve next year too. That Izturis trade is looking worse and worse. Where we now have a player who gets paid league minimum who could provide better OBP at SS than someone who is injury prone and getting paid what, $4 million? You could either add Soriano at 2B or a power bat at CF while keeping Murton and Theroit and greatly improve the team offense.
  20. Probably because he knows dusty is being "let go" and he really likes dusty. And playing in a season where you are 30 below .500 also doesn't bode well to having a "great experience" as a Cub. And I wouldn't blame him if he left for a decent contract. I also would be happy for the Cubs. I'd honestly much rather just play Pie and use that money to go after some big boppers elsewhere. Pie is ready to bat 7th or 8th in the MLB. Surround him with some good talent plz. .
  21. If he's part of a package for jones, cabrera? Heck yeah. Dunn? No. What is dunn getting paid again? Dunn is not near enough of an upgrade over murton considering salary differences.
  22. Bake: See, this is my line-up card. Little Bake: But Daddy, Jose Macias ain't on this team no more!
  23. As long as he's traded smartly for a real upgrade, he can do whatever he wants wherever he wants. I like the guy and he's been pretty good, but there seems to be quite a few people who are on the verge of declaring him "untradeable." Yes but if you use him to get a player for another position, you have just DOWNGRADED LF at an incredible discounted salary. Murton is above average in almost every stat if not all stats in the NL for LF. And is being paid near league minimum, and is showing great ability to take walks and hit for some power. He looks like he can improve. We do not need to trade an average to above average LF being paid minimum salary. We need to let go or upgrade the likes of Jones, Izturis, and Pierre. If you were to keep Murton in LF and Theroit at SS. You'd have alot more money to upgrade 2B and CF. Murton should be a small peice of a very good line-up. The likes of Izturis and Pierre, should not. Remember, Murton is ABOVE average for LF, and shows all signs of being able to imrpove. He is not a HOLE, you do not need to trade him even if you get someone good for CF you have created another HOLE, in LF.
  24. The AL won the WS already? Awwww spit!!! You are right. Getting ahead of myself. No your not. The AL won the WS. Go ahead and bet your life savings now. Then again odds are probably like 1000-1. So you'd have to bet 10,000 to make $100.
  25. This is really good news for Cubs fans. Look. Most of us have been calling for a MAJOR cleaning, starting with MacPhail, right? Well guess what, MacPhail just stepped down!! Ok maybe we'll have Hendry another year. But if he doesn't put together a winner, guess what. He'll probably be gone. Dusty will be gone THIS year. Starting next year we would have cleaned out 2/3rds of the Mchendust trio!! Now I don't know about you. But this gets me excited. Maybe our intern president will squeeze a little bit more $$$ out of the trib. Listen to some of the things he said in the conference. I never heard once, MacPhail say "It's about time we give these fans a WS". His goal is the "WS, not winning the division, not the wildcard, the WS". . Is it my bias that actually hears a subtle stab at mcphails comment on "competing within the division?". We've deffinatly started the off-season on a good note.
