  1. I understand the gist of your post, but you have to realize that Florida has no fan base and no big-city media to deal with. If they took 2 hours or 2 years to hire a manager, would anyone care? If they hired Gonzalez or Showalter, would anyone care? Either Girardi or Brenly would be a good choice. And Jim would not face critisism because "on the whole". Cubs fans like both those guys. I'm not sure where pressure of a fan base comes in on this arguement. I simply stated Florida knew who they want, and went out and got a GOOD GUY in 1 days time. There is no excuse not to go ahead and sign either Brenely or Girardi. There is no excuse to take a MONTH to get your manager signed when there is so much more to do. It just shows this orginazation's lack of desire. It is important to go out and get a manager and get ramirez re-signed before the world series is even over. My point boils down to. I like the way Florida does it, and I wish the Cubs could show the same drive to go out and just "get it done".
  2. Florida vs. Cubs. Florida = Went after "their guy" (and a highly praised guy here at NSBB) in Freddie Gonzalez not 1 day after the reagular season. Cubs = "Oh we "hope" to get it done in a month. . =================================== Florida = has won 2 world series in the last 10 years Cubs = 98 years since world series DEDUCTION = Florida knows what they want, they get it, and the know how to "get it done". Cubs do not want anything, they do not hunger for a WSChampionship, and they do not know how to do anything. . JUST #V^$!*$ GET GIRARDI FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE!!
  3. Managers have historically been responsible for bringing in most of the rest of the coaching staff. Plus, who would you rather pick the coaches. Hendry or Girardi? I view this as a good thing. We can get some compitant coaches now.
  4. I think you are not figuring in the fact that we know what types of moves Hendry will make so we type here how hendry can do the least damage. ;P BTW I don't see how you can criticize Murton, he had just a great year for his first full season and at HIS price? Should be considered a staple in LF. Re replace guys like Pierre, Jones, and Izturis. Not guys like Murton. Some of you should think twice before you criticize us. I think you should read my post again. I wasn't criticizing Murton, just that there is no way he should've started in left if you're going to sign guys like Pierre and Jones, who aren't top tier players. That's a big reason why our offense was so putrid. Had we had a Tejada or Abreu (and yes I think we could've had either one if people would get over the Prior lovefest) in the lineup then you could have gone with Murton and had a productive offense. Oh I agree with ya. But you really didn't make it clear. I think you were criticizing people of going with guys like Murton. When infact if we are going to mix a few rookies in there. We want them to be guys who can produce like Murton. We can agree on that?

  6. No kidding...fine, people don't believe it, he's just making a statement on a message board for god sakes. No one can prove one way or another if he's right or wrong so who cares! The idea itself is fun to talk about though, why can't we stick to that? Then let's drop it. You know he was the one who kept responding with new reasons why to trust him. Which basically is the psychology of someone seeking attention. Anyway I had already moved on in a positive way as we all did until you posted this. Your timing just irked me. So let's move on already, and stop talking about it.
  7. My 2007 chicago cubs. And let me just note the line-up. . SS Theroit LF Murton 1B D Lee 3B Ramirez 2B Soriano C Barret CF Vernon Wells RF some beside Jones As for your pitching. You're gonna need to go out and get a top of the rotation guy via trade or signing, at the very least. .
  8. Pick one. Just don't follow the strive for mediocrity and sooner or later you'll catch lighting approach of the MacPhail era. I'd set a flexible payroll budget. Flexible in the sense that you spend AFTER developing young players when you've got a foundation and a real shot at winning the thing. The Cubs could spend $70 mil, $90 mil., and $120 mil. over the next three years and win the thing, and spend less than the $100 mil., $105 mil., $110 mil. they're likely to spend. The Marlins, Diamondbacks, Braves, Dodgers, and Mets have all bumped payrolls during contending periods and reduced payroll during rebuilding periods. CFP I wouldn't say "pick one". Infact you do BOTH!! IE you smartly use both assets. An example would be Playing Theroit at SS, Pie in CF. And get rid of jones and sign or trade for a big bopper at RF and 2B. You smartly use your money. But an increase in payroll is never a bad thing. If you use the money wisely, you'll win. I'd like a raised payroll. It can never hurt. But it's not necessarily going to improve the team at all without the money being spent in the right ways.
  9. freel's had repeated big league success. You're right.
  10. One with the Cubs in it.
  11. Hahahaha that's good =D> Now THAT sounds like Whose-line. Hey don't you know what happened, they fired the coaches today, For us to compete, they really couldn't stay, Now maybe we can get some coaches, under GIR-RAR-DI, Hey look at our staff now, they are no longer a hilarity!!
  12. Wow, that's not good. I kinda thought that too. I mean for the past couple of years we've had the most UNDERACHEIVING group of players I have ever seen. If Bruce is correct, perhaps there wasn't alot of focus and passion from the coaching staff. And that is the reason why we saw players who looked "lost", or had no "drive" last year. I truely beleive that about our past incompitant "coaching staff". .
  13. I'll take Theriot over Izturis any day of the week. Izturis is a wizard with the glove. He can't hit a lick though. Theriot is average defensively at 2B. I haven't seen him at SS, but I doubt he has the range to be ML average at that position. I love that he can take a walk, but if he starts struggling at the plate, which is very likely IMO...Izturis is the better option. Izturis hits like Neifi and fields like a god. Personally, I like watching him and pitchers love him. Actually, Theriot is a plus defender at 2B, and came up as a SS, where he would still be at least adequate. And it makes the izturis trade look worse and worse. Because here we have a guy, who could be an adequate SS in Theroit. Yet we are paying Izturis around $4-$5 m. He's not a plus defender from what I've seen although he was rated very highly out of college defensively, IIRC (as a SS). We're lucky to have unloaded Maddux. LA wasn't offering ML ready prospects. Hendry tried to go that route and they weren't buying. Izturis was what they were pushing on several clubs. I'm pretty sure this board was pushing Ronny Cedeno over Furcal last offseason, so forgive me if I'm dubious about Theriot starting after a couple good ABs this season. Instead of getting $9 mil salary releif. We are getting around $4 million salary releif + a risk injury gold golf with at best, slight below average SS production. I'll take the $9 mil salary releif and the young guy, thank you.

  15. You mean Katherine Hairdummy?
  16. Jim just needs too much time to "analyse". He doesn't have much time in between his big macs.
  17. Sunday I thought it was Our president is a glorified ticket scalper Does everyone (besides Girardi) have to have a negative nickname? Girardummy.
  18. Kap wants Girardi as the manager. Asking Joe how him being a control freak started. (reffering to the no facial hair possibly?). No direct answer.
  19. so far just congrats to Joe for winning with $14m and new child.
  20. Gee, Vance.... who might that be ?? Hahaha. Vance, you've got to pick. Give us your pick to click on Girardi, Brenly, or Lou. Because my gut tells me it's gonna be one of those guys. . I gave my pick in another thread, but will do it here as well. If I'm choosing those three, I reluctantly take Brenly. I don't want Lou in any capacity. I'm worried about the issues surrounding Girardi and I don't want a Showalter-esque control freak. I don't think Brenly is a great choice, but I could at least be optimistic that some of Len's beliefs have rubbed off on him. I could also hope that like Dierker, he learned some from his time in the booth. I'm having a hard time choosing. Because I see all three as improvements over Baker. They all have positives. Girardi - seems to work well with rookies and is a leader Brenely - has stated his man love for murton and the importance of OBP Sweet Lou - would be entertaining as heck to watch.
  21. Are you sure? I thought it was the Orphans. .
  22. Thought you said you leaving on a long trip ??? It's a 6 hour trip but I make it 5 hours. That's probably like a drive around the corner to the local shop for you. You know it was long when I was younger but now that I'm getting older, along with figuring you listen a few CDs loaded with good oldies and rock, the trip is so much easier now.
  23. Boy this hours worth of good stuff is gonna make that 5 hour long drive alot shorter.

  25. I'll provide it. I'm listening. And recording (thanks serena!) now.
