  1. Look, he's just as bored and stir crazy as the rest of us.
  2. He's probably done the same thing a billion times. :-&
  3. He is actually, iirc (cant look it up to double check on my phone). Over the last two years he's 3rd most valuable player in baseball. Higher fWAR than any pitcher in that time span. Only Trout and McCutchen have been more valuable. http://i.imgur.com/kvx6bbj.gif
  4. Nobody griped about the Harden trade.
  5. Mike Brown. Tillman's career is seemingly ending the same way as Brown's. If only Brown had lasted as long Brown was just frustrating. Seemed like a good a guy and was awesome when healthy, but 2004-2007 really made it feel like he wasn't going to last so that by the time he played his last game as a Bear it wasn't surprising. At least he got to go out with one last decent year as a Bear. Poor Peanut wasn't so lucky.
  6. Tillman is like the only Bear I can think of going back a long, long time who I wasn't ready to see go by the end.
  7. I don't think that many people have a problem with the A's selling Donaldson high. It was probably coming in the next nine months or so anyway. It's the return that most people are taking issue with. Because they were selling high on a RH power bat who provides defensive value at a relatively premium position who has been one of the most valuable position players in baseball over the past couple years, many think they should have gotten more. I tend to agree. Same here, and that's really why this is lingering with me. I get why they moved him and I get the A's limitations in terms of what they can take back, but it still seems like a lopsided deal.
  8. I just said offensive to differentiate from pitchers to show I wasn't saying top 5 overall (though who knows, maybe he is); obviously we're talking all around value when it's come up talking about how he's not far off from Trout-levels.
  9. It's true; my expectations for Baez are even higher than this cesspool.
  10. Meh; thought he was 27. Still plenty of years of productivity. The Cubs have parts to move and it didn't take that much to get him and we're talking about a top 5 offensive player.
  11. The Cubs have a lot of parts they can move. A player who would make as big an impact as Donaldson shouldn't be off the table just because of what they might have. Granted, it seems like this and the Heyward deals came relatively out of nowhere, but it's a bit worrisome that the Cubs seemingly had zero interest (at least in terms of rumors).

  13. Ugh, this is bothering me the more and more I think about it.
  14. Well, sure they could have. But I'm fairly certain the Cubs aren't in the market for infielders. Kinda wish they were for one that good. It's not like Bryant has to stick at 3B. Yeah, Donaldson would definitely have been appealing, but if we're going to make trades, I'd just as soon see them use our trade chips on a quality OF, SP or C before an infielder. And I don't think that Bryant is going to stick at 3B, but Baez may end up there, or even Castro. It's just not a position of need in any way. It's not a situation like Heyward where I am thinking "damn, we really missed an opportunity there". I am; I'll take an established young player like Donaldson over a prospect any day. Especially since someone like Baez almost certainly would have been in the deal, so to act like the Cubs are likely facing some kind of overflow of starting infielders in the wake of a Donaldson trade is faulty.

  16. Hm. He is kind of a perfect storm of factors to placate Chicago meatballs.
  17. I didn't know people wanted Harbaugh. I thought he was generally perceived to be a shaved, screaming ape of some kind.
  18. To be fair, over 40% of the SW trailer didn't completely fail at its job.
  19. Bull [expletive]. His value isn't the highest it's ever been, but it's still high due to his age and his history of struggling. The same reasons the Cubs and Cubs fans can convince themselves that he'll be valuable is the reason GM's would want him. Maybe you're right, but I'm less optimistic. I think a GM could just as easily use his struggles as a reason to drive the cost down. I don't think Baez is going anywhere, at least right now. No one is going to give much for him until they see him rebound from this latest struggle cycle. If he rebounds they know the Cubs would never trade him; this is a relative buy low situation for them. Yeah, the asking price/offers would be a bit lower than if his stint in the bigs had been less terrible, but the potential is still there and hugely tempting. Ask for returns where the key piece(s) are coming from a position of strength and you could still get a primo return for Baez. IMO this offseason is basically the do or die time for the Cubs if they're seriously entertaining the idea of trading him at all.

  21. Well that's morbidly coincidental.
  22. Let's face it; this one was barely "pivotal."
  23. Impossible; Cutler can't go deep anymore.
