  1. I think one of the greatest things is that the biggest offseason acquisition, by far, fell completely on his face, didn't come close to living up to expectations or providing any value. And the team is still better than last year and historically good. AND Schwarber died AND Soler basically contributed nothing AND the pitching got older and they're still this good. It's really pretty damn impressive.
  2. Remember when we were, like, "LOL, Heyward is gonna have a bad year but still be a 2+ WAR player!" So young, so innocent.
  3. This honestly makes it sound like you just started watching baseball, like, a week ago.
  4. Obviously, that's doom bonering a worst case scenario, but it is a bit disconcerting when someone is THIS bad for this long with basically no signs of improvement outside of a couple weak BABIP-fluke stretches. But then again, it is baseball, and plenty of guys inexplicably just have bad years.
  5. This dude is a complete wreck. Send him to Cardinal Hell.
  6. And so it has come to this.
  7. AW YEAH. Is evv98's score supposed to be 267?
  8. Drake LaRoche.
  9. Though Joe West seems to be the last of the classic Big Fat Umpires that I grew up watching, plus that increases the odds that we get to see him die during a game.
  10. That was really fantastic. I was mostly busted up over Hendricks not pulling it off just because it would have been such an amazing way to send Fred off, but it was still a great night and I'm glad Len got him in there right at the end when the Cubs won.
  11. Heard the town Monkey's Eyebrow, Kentucky namedropped on the radio tonight.
  12. Unless there's a critical "to" missing from that quote.
  13. Uhm... When you say "standing," I assume you just mean kinda standing up a bit from the toilet/essentially squatting, right? Because otherwise I hope there's no way anything is actually spread when you're fully standing up.
  14. Also at stake: the Cubs can hand the Cardinals their 69th loss during this series.
  15. Man, I really was not expecting this to bum me out as much as it has. Despite all the jokes over the years about how old Fred was and knowing he was dealing with some health issues, I was just assuming right up until the news this morning that, of course, he would be back as king of the game threads and with those stats of his in time for the playoffs. I sadly never met the man, but based on everything people are bringing up here, I really wish I had.
  16. Greetings from hideous Herndon, Virginia !!! Go CUBS !!!
  17. Ah, damn; this is a cruddy thing to wake up to. I started lurking here during the 2005 season, and Fred's goofy humor and his stats were some of the main reasons this seemed like such a good board to join. It's too bad he never got to see this stupid, wonderful team win a WS, but hopefully if it happens this year a little part of it is for him. And very cool to name the game thread forum after him. He will be missed.
  18. That's the stuff. Now gimme them double digits.
  19. horsefeathers football; all is full of Cubs.
  20. Isn't it the exact opposite of that? When he's good, they tend to be good. You can see and track the results, individual and team-wise. No, because Blake Bortles went for 35/18 last year but Jay went a modest 21/11 and carried the team in every game. But it's not like you have to dig to figure out Cutler was good last season; he clearly was by pretty much every key metric. Some of his numbers were dragged down by being on a horsefeathers team. There's not really anything intangible about it.
