I disagree; I think you'd struggle to find anyone here who truly thinks the Cubs should be able to just pawn off contracts like Heyward's or Chatwood's to another team with little difficulty. I think it's mostly frustration with the idea that the FO maybe isn't willing to dish out the additional pieces needed to get a team to be willing to pick up those deals (or send back a smaller bad contract), and, mostly, the general idea that the Cubs are seemingly acting like the bad contracts have them essentially at a point where they have no choice but to start looking for change in the couch. -
Fortunately, we can chew gum and walk at the same time and realize there's a sliding scale of awfulness and we wouldn't have to tolerate them "only" trading (hypothetically, thankfully) for a rampant Trumper who traffics in conspiracy theories up the whazoo.

There (arguably) is if they're genuinely concerned about the starting rotation. Even if you're worried about the rotation, I have a hard time being convinced that Hamels is the solution at $20M. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm worried about repeat of 2017 John Lackey. Oh, I completely agree; personally, I didn't want them to bring back Hamels, and I have a real fear he's going to mostly suck this season. I'm just saying I get why Epstein would effectively panic and go that route (because he kinda sucks more often than we'd like at targeting pitchers).

There (arguably) is if they're genuinely concerned about the starting rotation. I could, unfortunately, see them figuring/hoping the offensive side of things bounces back, so they decided to use their limited resources on the area of greatest concern. Given that Theo kinda sucks at pitchers...yeah, it sadly makes sense.

Yeah; Theo's relatively shitty pitcher track record aside, I just can't see the FO trading for Kintzler if they had any inkling the wallet was going to be suddenly snapped shut.
