  1. Pretty smooth way to replace Old Dirk with the New Dirk.
  2. Oh, horsefeathers. Him and Luka? Damn.
  3. I mean, that's on him, though, right? He can sign anywhere he likes so long as he drops his demands from "richest contract in history" to "unbelievable, generational wealth" You make more money than literally billions of people.
  4. Man, teams losing to the lowly Bulls drives their fans a little nuts: https://www.instagram.com/p/BtSF8dBFGHh/?utm_source=ig_embed
  5. Not getting Harper sucks, but it did result in tree coming back and on horsefeathering fire, so it kinda evens out.
  6. Most definitely, though it's probably more reliable than the Cubs' medical staff.

  8. All it would take is for Tom Ricketts to say, "Yes." Though, to be accurate, it would be more, like, "eeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyeeeeessssssssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhLLLLURRRRRP"
  9. They're just dying a very slow motion death; eventually it'll be the same deal with their football or basektball-specific shows, too. Why is somebody going to wait for ESPN's shows specific to the sport they like when they can just turn on the 24/7 networks instead? I don’t think they’re going to do the same with football or basketball anytime soon, they’re doubling down on them. They’re pretty much all Lebron/NBA/NFL year round now for their shows, which is fine. I’m glad there’s an MLBN to watch, but they still have some trash shows. Would be nice if ESPN still had theirs to watch when MLBN had a trash program or segment on. That's why I said eventually; it's going to happen. ESPN isn't going to last much longer as a gimme in cable packages; what made it so successful in the beginning is now making it too expensive for the carriers. It's only advantage it has is the scope of its availability, and even that is being chipped away by the other newer sports networks, or the regional ones making it less unique. Yeah, people love to rant about how politics are sinking ESPN, but it's this horsefeathers. They can't stop it.

  11. Yeah. This thread could use good news or distractions but I don’t think he’s ready to shoulder that load
  12. OK, now that's pretty brutal.
  13. Cubs in the same boat and only got the one. AH-BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
  14. And on a 4 fWAR season for Baez.
  15. You are the absolute worst. Gimme the under on a 6 fWAR season.
  16. And yes, that is largely the fault of the MLBPA''s terrible negotiation. But the owner's are shamelessly taking advantage of that AND trying to play the victim at the same time.
  17. That acts on the (IMO) faulty idea that the revenue is ideally supposed to be split approx. 50-50 between orgs and the players, and also leaves out that up through about 2010, the players' revenue was typically approx. 60%. So the players' revenue HAS decreased in the last almost decade, the owners' revenue has gone up, and the owners are responding to the market like the opposite is happening.
  18. All of this is true. It's also true that Bryant has reached that level in every season in which he was "fully" healthy and also was on pace to go well past 6 WAR last year before the injury. It's possible that the injury will limit the finish on his swing going forward and that his results dip as a result. But I'll take bets on the gap between his 2018 and 2019 more than offsetting the dip in Javy's, assuming KB and Javy each play in 145+ games. Any of you doom bonering people want to wager? Just set a simple fWAR over/under for Bryant, you coward.
  19. Years ago it was Tim pooping on everyone's parade about how the projections/expectations for Castro need to be tempered sooner rather than later. Now he's throwing wild haymakers at the idea that Bryant's trajectory might be...questionable.
  20. It cracks me up that it's just assumed that a nebulous, almost season-long issue with "shoulder pain/discomfort" that drastically impacted his performance won't be a thing again.
  21. Theo gonna leave the cupboard legitimately as bare as everyone claimed it was when he took over.
  22. aiming a little high are we? He was at 7.9 WAR in 2016. He was well on his way to that again last year before getting hurt. Even if he only goes from 2.3 -> 6.5 (below his average when healthy), he'll still easily more than make up for regression from Javy. Its still terrible that their best case scenario is their broken superstar isn't broken and that he hopefully offsets the freakish ascension and almost inevitable regression of their temporary superstar. It's especially terrible because they have CHOSEN THIS PATH.
  23. Plus you know what makes even more of a difference than a healthy Kris Bryant? A healthy Kris Bryant AND a newly signed Bryce Harper or Manny Machado.
  24. Sure, but we're stuck with Kris Bryant and his 86-year-old shoulders instead.
