They're doing the doom-boner thing. There's no real point to arguing against it. Or it's an unchanged pitching staff made up of old guys/high injury risks/swingmen/just plain sucks and Kyle Hendricks.

From a division perspective who’s rotation is really more safe or better? They all have age, health, experience and regression worries. It's a cruddy rotation regardless of who they're playing.

I don’t think his $20 million (or $13 million depending on how you look at the Smyly trade) is relevant to Bryce or no Bryce at all. Yeah, the only way it really is is if Rickett's BS about things being tight THIS year, but opening up very quickly afterwards isn't BS. Spoiler: it's complete BS.

Hell, if they do that after signing Harper or Machado, I'm still going to be fed up with them. It sucks that these humps are going to attached to the franchise like a lamprey for a long, long time. It'll be like some kind of bizarro version of the Marlins' run.
