    This guy left a backpack in a trash can and left, it wasn't like he was positioning himself as a suicide bomber, so I'd call it a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong shot that that guy would've killed himself to carry out this attack. Didn't say he was a suicide bomber. My point is that killing crappy wannabe terrorists won't do anything to convince "real" terrorists otherwise, and the death penalty doesn't deter idiots.

    Correct me if I'm wrong but I think he made the comment about a veteran lineup not scoring because we had a lineup on Sunday for of AAAers that many people assumed wouldn't score at all, and they scored 9 runs, then we run the regular 'veteran' lineup out there and they get shutout. I don't think he's saying 'dont play the veteran lineup', I think he was just making a humorous observation. Nah, this guy's track record is to show up here and complain in the most meatheaded, Kaplan-esque way possible, so I guarantee that in his head the win streak was the result of "the kids."

    The beauty of "only the Cubs/that sounds like the Cubs" is that it can apply to anything. It's the laziest possible analysis/joke regarding a team.

    Yes, the pressure of NSBB caused them to fold. No doubt similar discussion on 312Sports would lead to most of the team committing suicide.

    Fantastically terrible analysis there, fella. For one, you seem to think that the team lost because the "veteran lineup" was out there, and not that it had anything to do with facing one of the best pitching teams in baseball. I'm sorry, are you under the impression that only rookies played during the win streak. Secondly, yes, Byrd has been awful as a #3 hitter...but you want to trade him because of that? I wouldn't mind selling high if the right deal could be had, but the Cubs don't have anyone available right now who can take over as a starting OF without the team facing too severe a drop in defense and/or offense, and what money they have is better served going after Dunn and pitching. Byrd won't be the #3 hitter next year, so who cares if he stinks as #3 hitter this year?

    Which is why the Cubs rebuilding would be stupid. Glad that this has been settled.

    With as much money as the Cubs have there's zero excuse to resort to building a team around Soto, Castro and Colvin, because that team will suck.

    They're not trading those big contracts for anything of value unless they pick up a good chunk of them, so there's little reason to try and trade someone like Fukudome unless another team is desperate to have him, and that's not likely. My point is that it was pointless to bring up the idea of next year being a "rebuilding year" because the FA class isn't conducive to actually rebuilding a team and the Cubs don't have enough players that they can actually sell high on, and the Cubs aren't really a team that needs to be "rebuilt." Enough of their big contracts will be steadily coming off the books after next season that they don't have do something so drastic.

    How would it have been a rebuilding year anyway? Look at the [expletive] FA class. They can still do the critical thing, signing Dunn, with all of those guys still on the team.

    And, of course, you've got Kaplan and Stone on CTL using this as a reason to yet again talk about how the Cubs should trade him no matter what so the team can "move forward."

    The worst part is that it kills any sort of trade value he might have had. Not that it would have been very high to begin with. Why is that the worst part? The Cubs thinking they should trade Zambrano is moronic regardless of what he says. Hey may be overpaid, but he's always shown he can still be a very useful starter, so trading him essentially just out of spite is dumb.
