  1. NO signs? He seems to be doing what you would expect from a player of his level coming back from that kind of surgery in mostly limited playing time.
  2. You seem to be expecting too much for your bench players if you want to keep it cheap, and you also seem to think that Nady his hit his plateau in terms of post-surgery performance. Personally, I disagree, and if he can be had for a decent enough price I'd want to have him back. Veteran bench players are almost always scrap heap guys anyway, so someone who is a "proven" bench player is going to cost too much. Hey, Nady could suck next year, but he's coming back from a surgery that players tend to rebound from and he's still young enough and has a decent enough history that there's a good chance he could produce if he's willing to accept a bench role to build up his stock. I think he could easily end up hovering around an .800 or so OPS next year.
  3. Actually, he's shown a lot offensively over his career, should be fine defensively the further he gets away from surgery, and how has he shown he's "injury prone?" Nobody's saying they should dump a ton of money on him, but in terms of having a veteran bat who can play 1B and the corner OF spots you could do a LOT worse. If he can be had for cheap I'd love to see him back.

  5. I'm easily happy with 20 or less picks so long as he's throwing the TD's.
  6. Gotta quote this before he realizes his mistake.
  7. Part of me thinks he was just [expletive] with the interviewer. Nobody can truly love that many evil teams...can they?
  8. Of the four, Kosuke has a pretty comfortable lead in OPS+ and OBP. He's 4th in games played and third in PA. All four of them have had bad months, but I think Kosuke is the only one who people think of as having been bad for an extended period of time. Jersey, what do you think of the idea of the Cubs bringing Nady back for the bench next year? I don't know if he'd be willing to accept a deal like that with how he's come on late, but if he can be had for the right price I'd like to see him back.
  9. So Gonzalez officially declined to be interviewed for the Cubs' job? That stinks.
  10. Yup, which is just another reason why the idea of trading Kosuke is a terrible one, and why Colvin will still get a ton of PA's even though he's not a starter.
  11. At least he had that epic double play tonight.
  12. He also had a bruised hip.
  13. Or they could just blow up a gigantic pile of money.
  14. So, like I said, the death penalty doesn't deter stupid people. If it did it would seemingly be a simple matter to show how it works as an effective deterrent, but that evidence doesn't exist, so why would would make sense to conclude that it would deter "wannabe terrorists" when it doesn't effectively deter anyone else? But yes, let's go back to talking baseball in the thread about the failed bomber.
  15. This guy left a backpack in a trash can and left, it wasn't like he was positioning himself as a suicide bomber, so I'd call it a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong shot that that guy would've killed himself to carry out this attack. Didn't say he was a suicide bomber. My point is that killing crappy wannabe terrorists won't do anything to convince "real" terrorists otherwise, and the death penalty doesn't deter idiots.
  16. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think he made the comment about a veteran lineup not scoring because we had a lineup on Sunday for of AAAers that many people assumed wouldn't score at all, and they scored 9 runs, then we run the regular 'veteran' lineup out there and they get shutout. I don't think he's saying 'dont play the veteran lineup', I think he was just making a humorous observation. Nah, this guy's track record is to show up here and complain in the most meatheaded, Kaplan-esque way possible, so I guarantee that in his head the win streak was the result of "the kids."
  17. The beauty of "only the Cubs/that sounds like the Cubs" is that it can apply to anything. It's the laziest possible analysis/joke regarding a team.
  18. get '80s kurt rambis on the team and you've got the ugliest frontcourt in nba history "I would have wordssssssssssssssss about that..." http://www.about-knowledge.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/steve-nash-eye.jpg
  19. Yeah, terrorists who mostly have no problem killing themselves to accomplish their mission...IF YOU FAIL, WE WILL PUT YOU DOWN.
  20. Yes, the pressure of NSBB caused them to fold. No doubt similar discussion on 312Sports would lead to most of the team committing suicide.
  21. Fantastically terrible analysis there, fella. For one, you seem to think that the team lost because the "veteran lineup" was out there, and not that it had anything to do with facing one of the best pitching teams in baseball. I'm sorry, are you under the impression that only rookies played during the win streak. Secondly, yes, Byrd has been awful as a #3 hitter...but you want to trade him because of that? I wouldn't mind selling high if the right deal could be had, but the Cubs don't have anyone available right now who can take over as a starting OF without the team facing too severe a drop in defense and/or offense, and what money they have is better served going after Dunn and pitching. Byrd won't be the #3 hitter next year, so who cares if he stinks as #3 hitter this year?
  22. I disagree. The Bears have had some VERY offensive coordinators in recent years. Just not the meaning of the word "offensive" that you were thinking of. :D WOW, THIS IS SOME EPIC [expletive] JOKE EVOLUTION HERE.
  23. Soto should have been shut down earlier this month.
