  1. It's not literally a breaking ball, I know, but it's a pitch being thrown in a slightly different way to add movement and has been associated with arm problems. http://replygif.net/i/957.gif
  2. September call up.
  3. Oh my God, these two are the besssssssst.
  4. For once I agree with neely; based on the talk before I watched it I thought Gomez was going to be Moonwalking down the line while pointing at Cole the whole time. All he did was strut a bit, and hell, he didn't even hop as much as Sammy.
  5. Good to see you're approaching this with an open mind.
  6. No, I demand easy conclusions.
  7. I mean, Cespedes isn't a good CFer...but it's not like that's anything similar to Abreu who is just a fat tub who is beyond awful at the easiest position. Well, yeah, it's a sliding scale, but generally it seems like a knock against them. I get why the hitting approaches would be different, but it would seem like fielding is fielding. Is the coaching generally just not as good or is there just not nearly as much emphasis placed on it?
  8. Why are the Cubans so bad in the field?
  9. He had a sub .300 OBP and his wOBA dropped 50 points. And still managed to be a 2.3 WAR player vs. a 2.9 player the first year. Pretty sure it's a stretch to say that the A's are regretting that contract unless we're just assuming that spending money at all hurts them.
  10. he didn't talk [expletive] until [expletive] was talked to him. his bat flip and posing counts as talking [expletive]. again, no problem with his posing and bat flipping. no problem with cole calling him on it. and if you think cole's comments to him were about baseball's unwritten rules and and NOT "hey nice bat flip on a triple, jackass," I don't know what to tell you. Disagree; if Cole is still pitching when Gomez comes up again and he gets him out and then eyeballs him or some [expletive], fine. I just don't look as stuff like that as mouthing off to someone same as actually saying [expletive] to them, though that's just a semantics thing.
  11. "Sparse" in what way? He wasn't that far off from the first year.
  12. Yeah, Gomez isn't blameless in this, but it's not all that "spazzy" when other guys are talking [expletive] and then getting in his face.
  13. Those filthy eye-ties ain't a race.
  14. He has a tendency to admire his home runs, and I get why Cole was a little peeved, but Cole could've just ignored it and been happy with the fact Gomez looked stupid admiring a ball in play. Had Gomez been hustling out of the gate it would've been an inside-the-parker instead of a triple. Gomez wouldn't have gone crazy if Cole didn't nag him into it Reference for those wondering: http://m.mlb.com/video/v32232541/milpit-benches-clear-after-gomez-triples-in-the-3rd/?query=carlos+gomez Finally watched this; that was great. [expletive] Cole.

  16. Yeah, but Alou is a perfect example of how I'm an idiot when it comes to this game; I adored ol' Pee Hands despite not being all that impressive with the Cubs except for '04, and yet I will always resent Rizzo for some reason even if he becomes amazing.
  17. Rizzo, meanwhile, looks like the bastard son of Robert Z'Dar.
  18. As opposed to the angelic Jose abreu you lusted after irrationally based on nothing I lusted after his oafish bat (come on, he was a Cuban hitting god, but it was never meant to be), not his oafish appearance. Soler seems pretty hunky, though he's apparently got mouth-breather syndrome.
  19. He's goofy-looking.
  20. Not really. So you had them with the best record in baseball on 4/20? Maybe if you were participating in 4/20, you would. It's a weird game; much, much stranger things have happened, plus it is, as you just pointed out yourself, only 4/20. Yeah, it's really not that weird. They have the talent to go on a nice 20ish game stretch, most teams have one like this over the course of the season. Theirs just happened at the beginning of the season and is more magnified. 10 of their games have been against the Pirates and Phillies, who most seem to think aren't that good. Right. I think a lot of us are just kinda shell-shocked from how bad our team has been and have almost forgotten that mediocre or even "normal" bad teams tend to go on runs. Hell, even the Cubs did, in their own adorable little ways, in the last couple seasons. The Brewers are just going on theirs early on.
  21. I don't know; I have a nagging suspicion it's the FO enamored with "their guy" as opposed to him being the cornerstone at 1B we all want (and really kinda need) him to be. I'm a baseball idiot, so there's not much to it beyond how I don't like his offensive splits and I'm not all that convinced that as much of last year can be chalked up to bad luck as some have argued. That said, I always love to be horribly, horribly wrong with these sort of these things.
  22. I still don't like him, but that's mostly based out of an inrrational response to his dumb-looking face. And he'll likely suck against lefities again soon.
