  1. Some things are just out of their hands, like hitting with RISP and the bullpen.
  2. There's a game today? Well son of a bitch.
  3. but are they really? As a whole, almost certainly. Definitely. Most fans are meatballs, and meatballs don't like Sammy because they tend to buy into the "STEROIDS ARE EVIL AND ONLY A FEW EVIL GUYS DID THEM" line, because of how his career ended here and because even at his best they still plagued hm with the pseudo-racist "he's lazy/selfish/never hits when it matters" nonsense.
  4. Enough time for what? The guy only recently started talking about the Cubs like he wasn't sounding like he had PTSD. And given how relatively distant he was in general I don't know why anyone would expect him to be sounding off for Sammy. He just doesn't seem to talk about the Cubs much at all unless it's a story about how badly he thinks he was treated during his time there. Well, yeah, so would guys like Banks and Williams and Sandberg and Fergie and their ilk, but nobody is going to do it because they either didn't play with him, don't like him or don't care and don't want to rock the boat with the Cubs.
  5. This isn't some kind of mystery; Sammy wasn't beloved by his teammates and ex-players who fuckin' show up at every [expletive] event the Cubs host aren't going to risk getting blacklisted for siding with Sosa, especially when they didn't play with him.
  6. This thread was [expletive] started during the previous game AND it had an offday between them? What the [expletive], Logan.
  7. I think this. There's gotta be a reason that many ex-players aren't openly campaigning for his return. You can't have so many silent people that were on the inside (ownership and FO obviously gone) be this quiet on the Cubs not inviting back their best player of this generation without having a decent reason for doing so. And if there isn't, well god dammit. IMO, it's telling that Kerry (by all accounts, a pretty decent fella) still has some sort of grudge towards Sammy after 10 years, whether it's the cork issue, moping about batting 6th, clubhouse differences, or whatever. I'd like to see Sammy come back eventually, but i'd be really surprised if there wasn't more to the story than we're led to believe. And as mentioned previously, if there isn't, well....sigh. Which ex-players are you expecting to be campaigning for him? Wood is like the only one of any signifigance from Sosa's time that still has anything to do with the team. Just a few off the top of my head that *could* vouch for him: Dusty Baker, lord of the "Players Coach," hasn't said anything. Granted, no one would put much stock into it anyway, but given his players coach mantra and his overall distaste for the Cubs, it's not hard to imagine him criticizing the Cubs for ignoring a Cubs great. Mark Prior, while minimally involved, now has good relations with the organization after a few sour years. Greg Maddux, or Maddox, as earlier mentioned. LaTroy Hawkins But whatever, I'd still wanted to see him back. Just thinking that there's more to it than the one time he walked out on his teammates on the last day of the season and oh his boombox was loud that other time. Prior played with him for 2 years and is unfairly considered a joke by the vast majority of Cubs fans. You dismiss Baker well enough on your own so I have no idea why you even brought him up in the first place. Maddux barely played with him in '92 and then again in 2004. There's really nothing to it beyond the Cubs being stupid and trying to placate the meatballs.

  9. The logic is pretty sound given the context of the game. I mean, unless we're pretending like pitchers need sunscreen and [expletive] for night games and all of those other types of shenanigans are cool. They're all pretty much doing some version of this.
  10. Even the [expletive] Giants have brought Bonds back. [expletive] this stupid, stupid, terrible team.
  11. This team is HELL.
  12. I can understand not being comfortable with taking part in the discussion. I find it odd that people actively take the side of, "bringing attention to it is creepy and cheapens the horrific thing so you people bringing attention to it are in the wrong." Not that they're all wrong; just that it mostly seems to be people punching blindly with no kind of endgame in sight. To hear people talk it's like the guy should be publically shamed or even should have his livelhood impacted seemingly indefinitely.
  13. This is one of the few games this year I actually could make some fat money on so I sold them janks in a heartbeat.
  14. Yeah, on the surface I'm all like, "oh, look at this douchey beard-wearing [expletive], he deserves all the [expletive] he gets," but what the [expletive] is the endgame? How many people are actually doing it for some kind of idea of combating against something like rape culture and how many are just [expletive] hecklers? The case is vile and he sounds awful (and the article's point about it's presented as something he's trying to "grow beyond" or "put behind him" like that's something motivating him as a player is just...ugh), but the attacks just seem like flailing. We just went through several days of people trying to pretend that a guy raping a woman on television wasn't actually a rape, that it turned consensual eventually, that if she thought it was rape she should have behaved differently, that it couldn't have been rape since they'd boinked a lot before, etc. Far too many guys, especially athletes with futures, get away with this stuff far too often, and it disappears. When somebody commits the crime this guy committed and gets away with it the world should work to bring attention to it. And...? Attention has been brought to it, and it sucks that it's been painted in some quarters as something he's trying to "learn from" or "grow beyond" or whatever the [expletive], but what else is supposed to happen? How is it not in a way cheapening the horrific thing that happened by ultimate just turning it into a sports heckle?
  15. Cake Boss!
  16. I think Noah played at least 45; he and Butler were just gassed by the end. Definitely a game where Thibs needed to break from the usual routine and get guys like Boozer back in there.
  17. It's not that he's exempt from it so much as it actually kinda cheapens the horrible thing he did.
  18. Yeah, on the surface I'm all like, "oh, look at this douchey beard-wearing [expletive], he deserves all the [expletive] he gets," but what the [expletive] is the endgame? How many people are actually doing it for some kind of idea of combating against something like rape culture and how many are just shitty hecklers? The case is vile and he sounds awful (and the article's point about it's presented as something he's trying to "grow beyond" or "put behind him" like that's something motivating him as a player is just...ugh), but the attacks just seem like flailing.
  19. http://replygif.net/i/343.gif So we would have heard you weeping over the season if they had won one or both games so far, right? Because while the team has been fun, nobody has been expecting them to do more than have a bit of a run in the playoffs at the most.
  20. The Cubs aren't getting the #1 pick, you loon.
  21. Hopefully the Ricketts have eyes and actually care. April night game isn't even a quarter full - awful. it's cold. i for one would be there if the weather were better. and i'm not sure i'd be there tonight for the 08 team. http://www.welovetheiraqiinformationminister.com/images/07-minister.jpg
