    Someone mentioned earlier this season that there's a provision in the CBA that there not be anything like a 24 in 23 stretch if it can be avoided. I'm sure MLB would put the game on 8/27 in that case.

    I don't ever recall getting the sense that people here believed Jones was 'done'. They just thought he wasn't worth the money. One major difference between the two is that our GM didn't trade one of our best hitters for a below-average leadoff hitter and trumpet it as a smart move. Well, argue about chemistry all you want, but the year after that trade the White Sox won the World Series. If Jim Hendry could make a trade like that, even if for a worse player, would you really argue? Not if we won the Series, but that trade decreased their chances of winning at that time.

    After 4 1/2 it's official if the home team is winning, no matter what. The only way it'd be 'delayed' is if STL took the lead in the top of an inning without us getting an inning to take it back.

    Jon Miller will tomorrow night, and he'll add his own flair to anyone with a remotely Latin-sounding name too. I hate when he does that.

    I always wonder what would have happened to guys such as CPatt, Murton, and Choi if they had a more competent manager and better coaches when they first came up. Maybe nothing would have changed, but it's hard to tell. Cpatt and Choi would never of been good no matter who the manager was. I'm not so sure. Dusty had an Orioles game earlier in the season and Corey was playing. Dusty was bragging about how he taught Corey to swing at high fastballs (which KILLED Corey) when Corey proceeded to strike out swinging on that exact pitch. Maybe Corey was doomed from the get-go, but I really have to wonder about the competence of the managers and coaches the Cubs have had in the past few years. I'd be willing to bet Dusty never actually taught anyone anything. He probably just thinks he did.

    You got it, I'll stick UNI in now. As for the Labor Day games, I'm counting those as being the following week, so they'll go in the thread I post on Sunday Sept. 2nd (when the new AP rankings come out).
