    That exact thing has been shown on the ribbon boards pregame for years. They also acknowledge Gabby Hartnett, Grover Cleveland Alexander, Mark Grace and a bunch of other former Cubs.

    Seiya hacked at the same damn diving curveball like 4 times in that AB. Very bad.

    That should be great news, but all it tells me is a team that probably needed some breaks to be a playoff team this year anyway hasn't gotten them and they're unlikely to play like a 21-10 team much longer. If they do, outstanding.

    Ross saying Mervis will be a regular (i.e. he's not getting the Velazquez treatment). Hosmer getting rave reviews for his willingness to move to a bench role, as you'd expect Ross to give.

    I left my office after the Cubs failed to score a run in the top of the 9th and by the time I reached my car the game was already over.

    I was just going to say it's amusing that the Cubs were actually hitting well with RISP for like a minute and a half and the baseball gods were like, "Nope, that horsefeathers isn't happening" and they've regressed at warp speed

    Miguel Amaya is in the lineup today (not Barnhart) and Hosmer is on the bench, so the Cubs are actually playing 9 on 9.

    I'm sure some of their fans are probably blaming Contreras for everything as well. I was sort of talking myself into the idea that Contreras doing great for STL would've been amusing because their fans would have had to reconcile having a catcher who can actually hit worth a damn with their hero worship of Molina, but I guess that signing not working out is its own kind of funny.

    I'm not totally ready to go back to my original prediction of boring 2005ish .500 type season, but I'm getting closer.

    Really pissed away the margin for error on this trip with those Marlins games. This one wouldn't be as annoying if 2 of those one run losses had been wins.

    My favorite thing about playing crummy teams with unsustainable things like "7-0 in one run games" is that that stuff never ever seems to normalize against us
