  1. With the exception of Outshined, who spent months campaigning for it, it seems the mods basically get together whenever they decide we need new mods and decide who would make good additions, then ask the people they decide on if they're interested. That'd be my guess, anyway. Oh, and yay for two ND fans in the mod ranks.
  2. It wasn't just that he hit 73, it's that if pitchers hadn't started walking him all the time halfway through the season he'd have hit 100. Same for if he hadn't been walked a gazillion times the next couple of years.
  3. Z withdrew mostly because he didn't like how he played in the early 06 season after pitching in the WBC.
  4. I've seen that picture of Sammy numerous times and I'm starting to wonder if it's modified in some way. I've seen many pictures of 'big' Sammy and none where his arms looked like that.
  5. Al Jefferson is all T'Wolves got. Everybody else was spare parts. Al Jefferson is a more valuable player at this point vs Garnett. The fact that Ainge and McHale are friends I'm sure helped facilliate the deal, but it was far from some lopsided exchange. Not only did it help facilitate the deal, but it was pretty widely reported that McHale passed up better offers for KG to get him to Boston. Naturally, Celts fans spent three months pissing and moaning when the Lakers got a similar lucky break with Gasol. I really hate Boston sports fans, by the way.
  6. That's an interesting thought. It's possible. Sosa was on that list, I believe.
  7. Ball State lost to the class of the MAC (yeah, not saying much) Kent State 63-56 today. No big surprise. Still leading the West, and we're looking in good shape for a MAC tournament bye if we continue our good play vs the West when the East is done beating up on us.
  8. wait, they used a replay for that? i thought they just missed the call live , and the tv guys were rehashing it. Nope, they looked at a replay.
  9. Maybe he used, maybe he didn't, but I find it telling that he's one of the guys whom everyone wants evidence about, and none has ever come up.
  10. I don't understand this at all. Brey has to be feeling a bit of heat. Every year it seems his teams underacheive. I'm not understanding how we came to his teams underachieving every year (he won back to back Big East coach of the year awards because his team did the exact opposite), but our abject refusal to play defense, ever, has clearly caught up with us. I guess it isn't every year, but his teams with Chris Thomas never did as well as they should have. This years team is easily a top 15 team, but they sure as hell are not playing like it. He seemed to do better with less talent during the Chris Quinn era. Yeah, I've had that thought before. I thought his best coaching job was just to keep his team from committing suicide in 2005-06, when he took a band of nobodies (led by Quinn) and they at one point were 1-8 in the Big East despite outscoring their conference opponents (they had a 27-point win and lost the 8 by a total of 24 points). I'm guessing there will be a little heat on him entering into 09-10.
  11. MSU pulled a Hummel there to get Devan Dumes's 3rd foul. Except not nearly as convincing.

  13. Wow, Notre Dame is one of the worst teams I've ever seen. I just spent most of the game laughing at them.
  14. Overweight guy known best for his pinch hitting roles, yep this sounds like Lenny Harris all over again. He'll get way too many starts this year. Oh yeah, I'm sure he will. Just saying if Dusty used him right, there's a chance he could revert back to 07 Ward. I don't think very many people are ever going to be able to be 07 Ward, including Ward himself. People forget how damn good he was in 2007.
  15. Brey should be in legit trouble after that Cincy loss. ND will probably make the NIT no matter what(assuming a winning record) cause they're ND and they'll draw, but Brey should probably be canned if they only finish a couple games over. Have you heard any rumblings at all about him being on the hot seat? No, I don't think he'd be in trouble unless this happened again next season, which it easily could - we're losing three starters.
  16. Ever since teams decided to start face-guarding KMac out to 30 feet and keep him from getting open at all costs, as well as reducing their double-teams on LFH, Mike Brey has had no answer. I don't expect ND will ever seriously compete with Brey as coach - pretty good Sweet 16-type team is pretty much their ceiling.
  17. You really have an easy stretch coming up don't you...I wouldn't be surprised if there like 16-9 they'll be back in it @UCLA tomorrow, vs Louisville next Thursday, and two weeks from tomorrow, @UConn. It ain't happening.
  18. ENOUGH ALREADY. The bottom of the Big East is awful. They are going to have a lower percentage of teams make the tourney than the Big Ten, and possibly the ACC or Pac 10. They're still a good conference, but this talk about how deep they are, when half their teams might not make the tournament, with 1/4 of them not even belonging in major conference ball is annoying as hell. I always defer to Jay Bilas (as anyone in college hoops should do because he's awesome), who says that there's an argument to be made for which conference is the best overall, just not 1-12.
  19. Notre Dame not even mentioned in Bubble Watch. Ouch.
  20. Apparently Manti Te'o's teammate, WR Roby Toma, is going to renege on his verbal to UCLA and sign with Notre Dame, according to WNDU-TV South Bend. The story said he's unhappy that Neuheisel didn't try harder to land Te'o, whetever that means.
  21. Might be time for someone on Penn State to bite the bullet and flop like a gunshot victim to get Harris chucked out of this game.
  22. The word from the USC message boards and the ND blogs is that Jawanza Starling hasn't actually faxed in his letter of intent to USC yet and may still be in play. Apparently Pete Carroll didn't mention Starling in his press conference. Apparently Weis cryptically alluded to the possibility that ND may yet get one or two more recruits, which could be taken as referring to Starling.
  23. Playoff teams have to win games like this, when the opponent's missing their best player. Very impressive. Hopefully this is the Bulls rounding into shape a bit and not just a fluke brought on by other teams' January/February swoons.
  24. The NIT might be optimistic for Notre Dame. That would require finishing above .500 and we're going to be 12-11 after UCLA and Louisville, with still one more auto-loss left at UConn. Harangody had 28 and 14 but he's putting up miserable shooting percentages. Presumably because he knows damn well that a bad shot from him is better than giving any of the other four idiots on the court the basketball. I've never been so annoyed with a team before. There is no excuse for the crap that Notre Dame hoops pulled this year. None.
  25. 27 recruits. When your rankings are comprised solely of total number of points, you can rank high even if you have almost exclusively 3 stars. Also how teams like S Carolina and UNC are top 10 or close. 29 commits. Do they even have enough room for all those players (Alabama signed more than they could take last year, as I recall). Bama signed I think 32 players. So many didn't actually end up going that ND was retroactively named the top class by the major services after the dust settled. I don't know why schools do that, but if they can get away with it...
