2010 was the last time the Cubs ranked outside the bottom 6 in baseball in average with RISP. Granted, we've had bad teams, but you'd think just by dumb cluster luck we'd have snuck outside that at some point.
So Jaxon is out as a Saturday starter and if he goes 3 innings he probably can't piggyback Wood either. What exactly are we going to do there? Granted, it's STL throwing Wacha against whatever we send up there, so it's halfway to a white-flag game already.
Well, for one thing, it seems like no one knew or cared (opponents or his own team) that he couldn't throw to first base until the pen hit the paper on this contract, which is more than a little annoying.
The Giants won two titles with Zito starting 30+ games. We should be so lucky. However, I don't think his contract will end up looking that bad. I hope.
I'd go so far as to say he probably will, but he's now given up 9 runs in 15 first innings, and it'd be nice to see that come down. Falling behind early is no way to live.
Last year it seemed like they were doing it a lot. Maybe they're course-correcting. Something to do with lack of partnership with ABC7? Entirely possible.
